I am looking at getting a new SSD to replace some platters I have.

I would like to pay <250 per TB. 

I would like to get ~2TB of space.  Willing to do it in two separate drives but one would be better.  I have not looked at HD in a while.  Not sure if there is a better time to buy, if I want a few months.  This is not a need it now purchase. 

I am also looking at a replacement HD (platter) for an old system.  I will not meed much space; 500 GB would be enough.  That is why I am thinking about the SSD now.  Get them both in the same order and do them at the same time (even though different systems). Any advice information would be appreciated.

    The Western Digital Blue SSDs are about that price on Newegg; 2TB for $492. Just about anything else will be in the $600 to $700 range.  M.2 drives are much more, of course.

    Is this a good time to purchase though?  For some reason I thought that SSDs were closer to 150 per TB.  Should I be waiting?

    There's been some SSD shortage and the prices now are probably higher than they were in 2016.

    If you're ready to wait until 2019 it's likely that the prices will drop somewhat.


    EDIT: But prices are always going to drop if you're ready to wait some years, so I don't know if waiting is wise or not.

    That is a pretty good deal considering 250GB SSDs from trusted brands go for half that price. Happy to see SSD prices are dropping fast.

    As to your other question, now is a perfectly good time to buy an SSD.  It's DRAM and GPU prices that are nuts right now.  It's also possible that those coming down in the future will lead to more people buying new computers, and hence more demand for SSDs.  So while it's not fire sale prices now, this isn't a bad time to buy.
