What would I benefit from more?
I have a Intel Pentium 4 1.6
And a Geforce 5200 256mb
A better processor, or video card? Also, what would a Amd 3800 processor equal too in ghz? Like a 3.0?

Hmmm
If I were you I would pick the processor. Doubling it from 1.6 to 3.0 would be very good.
My reasons is this:
A geforce 5200 isnt really that great (unless of course you have a generic 32 mb video card then it would be a huge improvement)
The thing is...if you have a good video card and an "ok" processor you could experience bottlenecking. Bottlenecking is bad because you will not experience the full benefits of your video card)
Soooo you could have a good video and not really experience it because your processor is too slow
That's why I would pick the processor first
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
All you will do is make a funnel for yourself..
You have a tube, 3 parts. Ram, Video Card, Processor. Widening any part of the tube without equally widening the rest of the tube just lets you pour more in, but it still takes same amount of time to go through.
[12:38am] <+steve> don't speak of tampons in a channel like this
sadly your going to have to stick with intel, unless your willing to switch your motherboard.
also an amd 3800 processor costs around $370
I was either gonna buy a computer or try and upgrade mine more, but If I get a new processor, I have no idea about cooling or how to install it, and if I get a new video card, I have to worry about wires that come with the better ones and I dont know how to do all that.
So if I were to get a new comp, a 3800 would be around 3.0ghz?
well amd and intel rate their processors differntly, so you cant say 3800 would be like intels 3.0, amd uses serails or codes to express how well its suposte to work while intel just bases thier info on the operating frequency of the processor.
about instalation and cooling, instalation is as easy as placing the processor in the socket the right way, and you can use the heatsink and fan that came with the processor and all you have to do is fasten it to the motherboard. as for video card all you do is slip it into an agp or pcie slot on your motherboard and install the drivers, no wires except for the fan on top of the processor and its usually labled on the motherboard where to place the wire or just place it where the origanal fan wire was. and for the video usually they dont need extra wires but like the nvidia 6800 ultra needs extra power so you just hook up and extra wire or two from thge powersupply wich is pretty easy.
but as i said your going to have to stick with intel becouse an intel mohterboard (if you upgrade) will not support an amd processor.
