CIG first has to make a game which will be worth playing for Goons.
I don't think CIG will give into the Goons, most likely to me the Goons will end up banned and deported back to EvE.
Give in to what? What are Goons asking for? What are you even talking about?
CIG needs to make a game with meaningful multiplayer for competitive med/large groups if it wants to be compared to EvE.
But I like how you said "deported back to EvE" as a derogatory term
Though to give you credit, playing the most fidelious alpha ever conceived is a lot more important than playing a game with more than a decade of engaging multiplayer gameplay for hundreds of thousands of players.
Many Goons went for refunds when it be came clear that they could not steamroll CIG like they did CCP.That really pissed them off. A holy crusade has been declared.
The Goonwaffe org in SC was already larger than 600 members.
I think they are now at half that. Many went for refunds when it be came clear that they could not steamroll CIG like they did CCP.That really pissed them off. A holy crusade has been declared.

Yeah I'm sure that's it. It can't possible be something like waiting for a game that's been in development for 7 years, is still in alpha after 5 and has hardly any gaming mechanics implemented.
This game just smells like a vaporware that will have a huge amoung of players curious at release, then will be forgotten, and become a wasteland a few months after launch.
Avoid it like the Plague! Stay away at all costs until it's more optimized and has entered the Beta stage.
Wouldn't have expected this from you Bab, but I wholeheartedly agree.
At this point, funding it should be done strictly to support the ideas. Anyone wanting to get in and have some fun in an Early Access type scenario should probably hold off for CIG to progress a little further.
Same for Dual Universe, and really most other crowdfunded MMORPG projects right now. Few of them are close enough to finished products yet for there to be a feature-complete Early Access kind of experience.
This game just smells like a vaporware that will have a huge amoung of players curious at release, then will be forgotten, and become a wasteland a few months after launch.
Well at this point, they have a GIANT amount of backers, who are all extremely invested into the actual game. So I don't think those players will be leaving a few months after launch. They are doing a great job of pulling funds from players, all of the people I know who have backed have at least spent 400 each, which to me is nuts. Plus those aren't normal numbers for those friends of mine, those are friends who don't usually spend very much on extras in games, so somehow SC has managed to make them want more.
But for players who haven't backed, yes you are right, I think those players might leave a bit after launch. As they aren't as invested, and didn't want it as much as the others.
I don't think it will be vaporware, but I don't think it's going to be nearly what everyone who backed wants. I honestly don't even know if it could possibly have all the features they want. But I'm sure something will come out eventually.
This game just smells like a vaporware that will have a huge amoung of players curious at release, then will be forgotten, and become a wasteland a few months after launch.
You DO know that many people already play that "vaporware" as playtesters and that there are a lot of videos of gameplay from this "vaporware" to be found in this subforum ?
The last sandbox sci-fi game (Star Wars Galaxies) has been played for 8.5 years and has not been forgotten since then (the fans even reverse engineered it to an emulator server). The number of players in SWG was sufficient throughout the lifetime of the game to keep the servers running for almost a decade.
Star Citizen is considered by many to be the successor of SWG, Freelancer and Wing Commander.
So .... everything you said is possible. Personally I think its unlikely.
It will be interesting to see if CIG will ban someone who spent say 10K on ships.

OP has used this type of trolling before, he creates a question thread, waits for the post that he wants, decides not to try a game and then lets the posters carry on in a flame and troll wars. ignore this dude, he is toxic.
I know. :-)
Still ... its worth to talk in general about the current Alpha 3.1 gameplay. No matter what the original intention of the OP was. Might as well talk about it in THIS thread ;-)
Its getting better and better. Very interesting to watch as the development progresses.
Star Citizen is considered by many to be the successor of SWG,
I like you loads bunny but the only person I have ever seen say this is you! What is it about SC that makes people think it is a SWG successor?
a) Sandbox
b) Sci-Fi theme
c) Player generated content
d) Faction gameplay
e) PvE and PvP
f) ship and 1st person FPS gameplay
g) racing
h) crafting
i) mining
j) repairing
k) tuning
l) dancing ( aahh, SWG pub-crawls ... those were the days....)
m) buying and selling (NOT auction house only)
n) huge diversity of ships, personal equipment, modules, weapons, load-outs
o) skill-based, not progression based space combat
p) interior design
and more ....
Have fun
PS: Most of my SC gamer group are SWG veterans ... we talk about the similarities all the time. And SC Alpha is more fun than SWG Emu already. When The Repopulation tanked, SC was the prime successor to SWG. Dual Universe is a contender, but somehow reminds me more of Minecraft than SWG.
You can have your opinion matter without being able to 1v5 people. But if you're throwing around your opinion of how pay-to-win the game is without actually playing it enough to understand how highly skillbased it is, and how little stat based it is, then your opinion certainly doesn't matter.
Have you played other flight/space sims?
I find the flying in ED a lot more skillbased than flying in SC. In SC the most important part is keeping your target in your crosshair (which is very easy to do) with minimal effort put in the flying... unless you consider strafing, flying . Which is why people keep referring to SC as FPS in space.
I'm still waiting for someone to show me the Star Citizen equivalent of ED's Isinona.
Um... yes. Freelancer genius. I just said that a few posts above this one. As my main game for 5 years straight.
If it's easy to keep your target in your crosshairs then they either are flying a very large ship or are a very bad pilot. Maneuvering is one of the essential skills of a space fighter sim. And the bigger / slower turning ships are going to have the hardest time with it.
I think it's a bit early to say how little of a stat based game it will be. We know that there will be various grades of modules, each more powerful/efficient/armoured than the previous, we know there will be overclocking etc and that typically creates quite a disparity from a base ship to a fully modded ship in these sort of games. All part of why it makes pre-purchases more P2W. If the hulls are role based and not a progression path then it will be the modules which form a large part of the progression path.
It's really not too early if you've played Arena Commander. It's going to be a pretty damn skill based game even if they adjust it quite a bit from where it is now.
This game just smells like a vaporware that will have a huge amoung of players curious at release, then will be forgotten, and become a wasteland a few months after launch.

Never heard that before and I been in the MMO community for a long time. After free weekend I failed to see anything that could be compared to SWG!

I was active on the forums when that all happened, the Goon's were all for SC until Beer4TheBeerGod got his panties in a bunch because he couldn't be buddy buddy with CIG Austin. That's when the Goons welcomed DS with open arms, despite tearing him several new ones about a decade ago over BC3K. I'd link the posts, but CIG forcibly gave Beer his pledge back and removed all traces of him, like they did with DS.
It was all pretty fascinating if you have an anthropological kick.

The Goon inspirations of the SC anti-fanboy movement really explains a lot about the kind of people it attracts.

I've played AC and currently there is a skill requirement but that does not mean stats won't play a significant part in the final game. Elite's combat is skill based but stats are extremely important and I see SC trying to be very similar.

Cmon dude, now the innocent act? You do regularly create threads with "baiting" questions which if you had read any of the threads on SC or most any other game they've already been long beaten to death.

It's not ready. Only people with the best machines have reported stable builds running at a solid framerate. The game isn't optimized. It's not feature complete. It can be frustrating.
The best time to jump in will be after object container streaming is implemented in 3.3. It should land near the end of this year if all goes well.

lol i think its cause he thinks its because of luke sky walker playing as a voice actor for squadron 42 ROFL. to be honest i have no idea what to believe anymore i am one of those backers. i am also one of them loyal fans. now my hopes of seeing light for star citizen is dwindling not just for how longs its been since they first announced when it would be released but it's because of being 2018 april 24 almost half way done through the yr and the game is still in alpha. oh and @erillon. star citizen will never be a successor to swg. one star wars is star wars. star citizen wont have enough fans to support them and that's not even speaking of if it flops. look at swtor for example. big title for being star wars. was suppose to be a successor to swg but we all know how that turned out.
