Again, why in the world would you spend time watching when you can play it? Too many couch potatoes I guess. Ok if you are looking for some tips, but otherwise just stupid.
Entertainment value?
I mean why watch anything since you can do most anything?
Why watch sports? Get out there and play. Watch TV/movie? screw that get involved in community theater.
If one can watch sports then I see no reason why one can't watch gaming.
Have you ever watched someone play Fortnite? After about 20 minutes it becomes rather boring, there is nothing innovative about the game, just another fps with different goals. It gets extremely repetitive rather quickly. THAT was my point! It is the same thing over and over again. Same thing with Pubg.
Sorta like watching every single "real" sport on TV like football or the Olympics or < insert sport name here >. They all play the same with random elements coming into the picture from time to time just like in broadcast esports. Astonishing.
Kids today spend their life on their smartphones, they have to be doing something...mystery solved!

These people think they are better than others, your words wont change this. Just ignore is the proper course of action.
Another option is to see it as an insult and give everyone who generally insulted everyone who had a different viewpoint a temp ban.

Have you ever watched Golf?
After 10 minutes it becomes boring ...
Oh wait! People watch it all the time and love it.
Come on! Are you really going to take the stance that "because I find it boring everyone finds it boring".
Just accept it's not for you and move on. I'm pretty sure none of us define what is awesome and what isn't.

Watching other people play video games is akin to watching athletes play sports in the past.
Except you watching a bunch of couch potatoes sitting on their screen controlling pixels, instead of fit athletes who push their boundaries after years of hard training. Why wasting time watching others play games that you can play yourself?
I can play COD, I can play Overwatch, I am not the best but I do fine. Maybe if I focus on one game only I could even compete at high level. But can I run 100 meters in less than 10 seconds? Not even close. That's the difference.

Same with sports, and sports games. I can play those things irl if I want....but I don't.

You kind of twisted that around. Probably because you don't understand what you are watching.
People are watching "video games" because of what is going on "on screen".
If you watch a professional Chess Tournament you are there to watch the players do their thing. And their thing is not pushing the boundaries of physical endurance.
And with some of the players in these things, I'm pretty sure they would wipe the floor with most people. Whether you value it or not, that means it requires some level of skill and a level of skill that most people do not have nor will ever have.
Also, for me, most sports are pretty uninteresting no matter how far these athletes push themselves. For me it's only ever fun if you are watching with friends. Otherwise "yawn".

The first part of my post was meant to be funny not to be taken too seriously.
The second paragraph was more important though. While not many people will be able to run the 100 meters in under 10 seconds even after training for years, many regular players could easily challenge those dudes they watch on twitch or on these tournaments by putting a little bit more effort in playing the game rather than watching it.
I like gaming too much to focus on 1 game, but if I had to focus only on one, I would probably be able to put up a good challenge. I am not sure why people would want to waste time watching rather than playing, I don't get that, but I realize I am a minority.

I don't think that's entirely true.
Well, "yes" most people would not be able to run 100 meters in under 10 seconds no matter how hard they trained.
But there is a lot more going on in these video games.
First off, the reflexes involved, especially if one wants to believe all these players who post on this site saying they are "old" and they can't play twitch games.
People probably have a range as far as their reflexes go. Also, there's understanding what is happening all around you and making split second decisions.
On a slower scale, not everyone could play golf at a professional level no matter how hard they trained.
I would bet dollars to donuts that if you are not currently playing at what would be considered a professional level you probably would not compete with these guys.
But I'd love to see if you can and would watch that.

I remember not so long ago when I thought Koreans watching others play Starcraft on prime time TV was funny.
Then came Twitch and now I'm actually surprised the NA cable TV people are letting them get all the views without jumping in and creating their own shows. Gotta be a lot of money just sitting there waiting for them to take it.

You keep that fantasy alive there cowboy.
Jokes aside I am really good at FIFA with my Juventus and I play casual, I am also half decent at COD But what I was trying to say is that unlike real sports most of us could easily challenge those people if they concentrate on a single game, particularly if you are young. Besides, playing games is fun and does not require you to sweat a lot, unlike sports. Basically I rather play than watch...am I weird?

Did you ever consider that you are naturally on that level and it's not about "most of us" but more about "you"?
I can pick up most instruments and with little effort learn to play quite well. But you aren't going to see me say that most people can do the same. At least on a higher level.

Maybe. I just assumed that people who love gaming are kinda good at it. Anyway my point is, I have a set amount of time for entertainment, i'd rather use that time playing games than watching other people playing. Maybe I am good because I play the games rather than watching? Just a thought.

The personality is entertaining. Or the gameplay is great and you like watching someone good.
It's like a sport. Why watch baseball on TV when you could just go play baseball.
Easy response to that, most sports require you to get others to participate and they need phyical skills to do so, forenite is easily played solo with little skill needed as with any video game.
As someone who hates this game and hopes it crashes hard soon, I have played it with my kids, and to do well does require skill, the building aspect while fighting is pretty crazy, and all the good players do it. They do it so fast I'm assuming macros are involved, but they may just be that fast.
What's sad it that Ninja is probably still one of the most watched, and that is depressing. Our society is sliding quickly into decadency, and people aren't willing to make any kind of stand against people or companies that don't deserve the success they have.
