Is 45 too much? For a game after 5 plus years, and still not in beta, I would say yeah. Do I want the game to release, of course. But what I really need to know after all this time is exactly where all the money is going. There just no logical reason Chris Roberts isn't allowing us to see the books opened. After, all that is what he promised us in writing and signed.
Oh and please do not insult me about gaming companies taking this or that long. The whole reason Roberts said this way was better was getting away from those gaming companies. He really needs to finally come clean open the books and show us how much is still available and how much went to their bank accounts.
Makes you wonder why he hasnt released a single player version of the game already.
They already split the game, makes sense to release a single player game in a timely manner.
Yet, there is suppose to be a reason why they have not...

Maybe, just maybe it's scope also evolved with more funding, and more tech availability (pg planetary landings for ex) they are still developing it... Why people feel this need that games that seem interesting need to "COME OUT NOW SO THAT I CAN PLAY" when waiting is not that hard really. Being impatient is a sign of immaturity being oblivious on purpose a sign of ignorance.
Except that 400+ developers take away the cash he gets from crowdfunding at a fast pace.
While all the cash he gets from sales after release of the game is generating a much higher percentage of profit, as he needs a much smaller workforce to maintain the game compared to developing the game.
Even your "greed" argument falls flat on its face once someone looks at it closer.
Have fun
But this is about Roberts' bloated ego. He loves playing the big dog, and having this huge organization at his beck and call. It means he's important! He can continue lording it over everyone while making countless bloviating videos that he's still probably individually notating on imdb.
He has no incentive to efficiently finish the game, as the money keeps rolling in, and he can keep micromanaging til the cows come home. There's always going to be a pixel that needs to be blue.....
??? You do realize if and when the game launches he will still be the "big dog" and have people running around for him, he doen't just stop being in charge lol. Feel like you created that argument just because you dislike the guy.
The money rolls in and goes straight to the development/Employees, the buildings, the electricity, water, events and anything that need to sustain the company and continue the game. You don't have to know business to understand that.
Were people thinking all that was free and the money can just go straight to he's account?
To the overall arugment:
of " then where's all the money going, it's been x years nothings happening" That's matter of opinion, some feels it's at a good stage, other feel it's not, but no ones right or wrong, why? Because we have no idea what a game like this should be at, tbh we have no idea where most big title games are at in development, until they announce it a year or so before.
Can any of you tell me what development stage Death Stranding is at? Can any of you tell me what stage God of War was at 6 - 7 years in? Probably can answer the question for you, no. So how do you know where this game should be at? Or better yet games similar in size and what they are trying to do, can you tell where they were at this point in their development life?
So my question is, what are you basing that argument on? What are you comparing it to? If you're not comparing it to anything and basing it on facts, then you're just basing it on what YOU want and what YOU feel the stage it should be at.

What! say its not true! Don't tell me he dislikes Chris Roberts just because his mates who use to work under Chris Roberts 20 odd years ago didn't like their boss. That would sound childish and stupid, say it isn't so!
I was walking along the road with my 5 year old daughter the other day and she asked "why does Chris Roberts steal everyones money and use it to buy paradise islands, drugs and hookers?". I didn't know what to tell her, I just know my heart was broken.
Please someone stop this madman, won't someone think of the children?
I already got more than enough enjoyment out of SC over the last years... well worth the money i spent. If you have a great group of people to game with, it is always fun. And in my experience SC attracts a type of gamer that i enjoy to be around with.
Have fun
I am curious. You keep saying that you got enough entertainment out of the game in the last couple of years to justify the money you spent. Yet officially the game is still in Alpha.
It's either you are easily pleased or there is something major I missed. Flying ships around, fitting the ships and walking around barren planets hardly sounds like a game to me. What CS gameplay consist right now? What are the goals, story, and what your typical daily game session?
PS: I actually think that a project this big requires a lot of time to develop so, though I make fun of it often (mainly because I am fed up waiting for it), I think eventually we are going to get at least a decent game (when? insert joke). I just don't get your line of defense, I don't think that's the right way to do it, pretending you are actually having fun with an Alpha build which is nothing more than a big demo.
thank the Maker me and my brother got our refunds and out of this cult years ago. . .
Which maker would that be exactly?
Anakin Skywalker?

Typical daily gaming session:
a few rounds of Arena Commander ... trying out new combinations
Logging into Crusader at a time predetermined with a group of friends. Decide what creative/crazy/innovative thing to do today. Alternatively we decide to specifically test some bug from the issue council list. But the most fun are player events ... scavenger hunts, open races where some people are in hoverbikes or buggies and others are in ships, trying to shoot the groundpounders up. Its a free for all, but temporary alliances are allowed. When you can bait some flyer into a canyon ambush ;-)
When i am alone i tend to go exploring, finding new locations, hidden wrecks .... taking screenshots, digging for loot like the weapons you find in the wrecks.
At some point someone wants to do some FPS, so we train boarding actions (if there is something left after the space battle ;-) ). Or breach and clear at Kareah station. If there are no other players there, we split into two teams. Sometimes there is a hidden sniper camper at Kareah ... so you have to clear him out first.
If there was an update, i try if there is a new mission ...or a change to the existing missions.
Goals and story .... we make them up. Its a sandbox. Go out there. Combine things like in the old text adventures ;-) You would be surprised what is possible with a group of creative people.

I don't think it's THAT crazy for people to want something in exchange for their invested money or time. Humans are squishy and short-lived, after all...statistically speaking, there is probably a forum member who is looking forward to seeing what this game will launch like but will be dead before it's released.
Sure, there's plenty of other stuff to do with free time, and the normal reaction is to just ignore the game until it launches and check it out then if you can. I have wondered, though, how many backers who put in $1000s will be dead before the game is released, or at the very least, how many backers out there may be annoyed by the idea that the money they put toward a virtual sandbox universe may have been put toward a single-player game with Hollywood voice talent. Just food for thought.
If they're selling more ships they must need more money, Apparently 185 million isn't enough.
Well I guess they could stop selling stuff, that would make total sense right? Just give the game free to everyone else you think? that work for you?
What ?, I said they obviously need more money, I didn't say anything about letting people who didn't donate play for free.
Why is it obvious? I guess Blizzard should have stopped asking for money when they recovered the development costs for WoW? Apparently though 10 billion wasn't enough.

WOW isn't a crowdfunded game, Crowdfunding isn't supposed to be used to make a profit, It's to raise enough money for what they want to use it for.
Then when the product releases that is when the company makes a profit, It would be very unethical for someone to use crowdfunding just to line their own pockets.
So why isn't the game closer to release if there are 400+ devs working on it? Heck even Project Gorgon is closer and I think it has one guy and his wife as the only devs.

The same logical reason(s) you do not see the books of the OTHER 99.99 % of private companies.
Have fun
Sale seems to be doing well enough, keep it up folks, we're almost at the 185$Million mark!

God Bless Gaming forums, I guess
