J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot has been instrumental in more than a few of the world's most well-known movie properties including Star Wars, Star Trek and Mission Impossible. In a new announcement made late yesterday afternoon, Abrams announced that Bad Robots Games has been formed as a separate division and that it will work in partnership with both Tencent and Warner Bros. Interactive.

In interesting piece of news. I'm betting that, at least at first, the games might be tie-ins to movies made by the studio, especially given the huge IPs they are involved with.

I think you're correct. Something Trion tried with one of their games. I believe the series died but the game survives.

Warn-A-Brutha Interactive, cause you know....locking a game's "true ending" behind either a long long grind or paywall is ok.

Interesting that they have taken on an Indie guy as creative director, I do perhaps over optimistically associate that with original gameplay. We will see. :)

Hmm... trying to figure out if there's going to be a Lens Flare graphical options setting or whether it will permanently be set to ULTRA HIGH.

As long as he doesn't bring his friends Rian & Kathleen along to pollute the gaming industry i am fine with this.

    this is the important part:

"Bad Robot Games will partner with established developers to create large-scale and indie titles for the mobile, PC and console markets. In-house visual artists, designers and writers from Bad Robot will work on the projects."

So basically the games will be developed by existing game companies and Bad Robot Games writers/designers will provide input.

Inb4 they make a Lost game. Just kidding haha. That could be an interesting game though, but it’s not going to happen.

Defiance - yeah the TV show never really caught on but the game is alive and kicking, with a new iteration releasing soon(ish).

I tend to agree, from a business standpoint it only make sense to work with the current IP's they have absolute access to, some of which would be a very easy translation into video games.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

You're getting confused with Michael Bay. He's the explosion guy. Abrams is the flashy cgi effects guy.

Jar Jar Abrams is the poor man's Steven Spielberg

Great, so now Abrams can ruin video game versions of the cherished intellectual properties he's already ruined for me on the big screen.

He's the best thing that happened to Star Trek movies ever.

    Nope. That's Nicholas Meyer.

Oh geez I can see it now J.J brining his Anti-Trump anti-American propaganda to video games.  As if people aren't  sick enough of it on the big screen now we will get it in video games.  Woohoo.

I don't know, I liked his first Star Trek movie, but I didn't particularly like the Wrath of Khan remake.  I'm probably wrong, but it doesn't seem that he has done much original since then (could just be my perception - I don't follow directors).

So WB, who turned a game I loved into a cashgrab, and Tencent, who destroyed another game I liked, is joining the guy who destroyed Star Trek. Not expecting a whole lot from these people.

I don't watch movies so i had to google his name to remember who he was. From the movies he worked on I've only watched Armageddon back in the day.

Maybe some day i'll watch his Star Wars and Star Trek movies. I can't really judge his work because of the first sentence on my post.

The only thing Warner Brothers wants to do is do mobile games, hence I would not hold out hope for any other type of game coming from this.

Just a complete waste of time if you ask me.

Respawn - Frakkin awesome.  Titanfall 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games from modern gaming.  The single player story mode from Titanfall 2 is worth the price of admission alone, even if you don't like the multiplayer.  I had a few clenched jaw, man tear moments in that game.

EA - Well, damn near everyone feels the same way about EA these days.  No need to rehash that territory.

Jar Jar Abrams - Mr. SJW politics himself.  Honestly wish he'd just stay far far the hell away from this, so I don't have to hear how his god awful characters are only bad because I'm a misogynist, bigot, listophobes instead of the fact that Rey is legitimately a terrible character and Daisy Ridley only has one facial expression:  "Did I leave the oven on?"

All said and done, this is a 'Wait for the reviews' title since two out of three factors in this equation are generally shit.

All of the IPs for the movies they have worked on are spoken for though, at least for now anyway.
