Hey guys,

I tried to go back to WoW...again...and level up a new character in anticipation of BfA.  I found that I can't stomach doing basically the same quests and zones, albeit revamped, that I've been doing since 2004.  I need something new, at least till the expansion comes out.

Is there a relatively recently released, quality, populated MMO that I may have missed?  I tried ESO and GW2, but I didn't enjoy the action combat.  I also found the ESO world to be drab for some reason.  I tried FFXIV a few years back, but got tired of repeating the same scenarios and dungeons over and over on what seemed to be a daily basis.

I'm open to just about any genre, sandbox or themepark, prefer tab targeting, but I'd be OK with action combat if it's not too fast paced or twitchy.  I need a world populated with a lot of other players to make it feel alive.

Thanks!

I think the best option might be to try  FFXIV again. They have added quite a bit of content in recent years. Unless you feel the urge to level all jobs, then I think repeating content is inevitable. Someone who has actually played the game recently could probably inform you better though.

OK, if it's significantly changed, it might be worth another look.  Thanks!

I find when I revisit old MMOs, I stay a month or two at most and then go "no wonder I stopped the first time".

Honestly, I'd wait for WOW classic. That was a lot better than how WoW is now. And its not rose colored glasses, cause I've played vanilla WoW servers and go "wow this is the WoW experience I love" and play for many months.

Only reason I don't now is cause they get shut down or ran by incompetent and cheating and drama filled developers lol

Anyway...mostly when I revisit old MMOs I have same experience and go "well here we go again"

Oh yeah, I'll definitely try out the classic WoW servers.  Still, looking for something to scratch the itch between now and the new WoW options.

I'm probably just severely mental, but the FFXIV lore in my viewpoint is to boring. The music also makes me want to commit Seppuku. That's just me and don't worry I take medication. The combat is very fluid and understandable. Graphics I give it an A. All in all it's a good game. Needed to share my viewpoint and thanks for listening.

I'm not actually a fan of the game and really didn't like the amount of dialog that goes with everything. I like lore and dialog, but a full introduction and backstory for every new character reminds of bad role players XD
It's just the only thing I could think of that met the given criteria.

Rift Prime could be an option for you.

LOTRO could be as well. Most immersive MMO I've probably ever played and the population is higher than most people would like to believe. Just need to search on the forums for the most populated server for each region.

Those are the only other 2 'WoW' style MMO that have a decent population at the moment and aren't some Asian clone.

FFXIV's core gameplay hasn't changed at all so if you didn't like it before, you won't like it now.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

LotRO. It is the only MMORPG I can return to time and again and it STILL feels like a warm bath when logging in one of my characters or creating a new one. It is an actual home, not a game I retry.

Oh yeah!  I've been playing LOTRO since beta, should have mentioned that.  These days, I just log in on a free account to chat with my kin and go to concerts.  I was thinking of trying a hobbit burg, though.  I just don't know if I can stomach Moria again.

    ^ This ^

I returned after several years (played last time when Moria launched), created a new account and started from scratch. After 8 freshly rolled characters on this new account I haven't been so excited about mmorpgs for ages! I'm more into sandbox games like EVE but LOTRO is one of the better themepark games for sure. Negatives are it's f2p and way easier than it was back in the day but I'm using Stone of the Tortoise frequently to keep only orange/red quests in my quest log :)

There's SWTOR.  I really like the starter planet quests with a new character.  If your tired of WoW since 2004 you will really get tired of WoW classic as it was a tougher repeat grind experience, imo.

Plus Steam is having there big sale and there's a great thread around here somewhere naming a lot of great low priced games.

You need to wash your mouth out with soap for suggesting that...most of that games community need to do the same. :)

Universal popularity was not one of the OP's criterion. From what I hear, it still has a respectable player base. And big electric boobies.

Tbh, I don't think there is anything very juicy in the market right now. I would just wait for the heavy hitter:

    Ashes of Creation.

It's an action combat MMO with state-of-the-art engine and absolutely stunning visuals.

There is gathering and dungeons, and what's atleast important to me: Meaningful PvP. They will have nodes (cities, castles, bridges) over which to fight about. Winner gets a boost in economy and gets to hold an important area with valuable crafting materials etc.

There will also be arena/battleground type PvP which I am really excited about.

Also the team is HUGE. 84 people working on the game and literally tens of millions of dollars have been pumped into the game. It's going to be A BLOCKBUSTER.

    -The content is there
    -The team is there
    -The money is there

I have no doubts its gonna be a great game. Mind you, it's still in alpha, but it's worth it to sign up so you get a chance for free early access.

    Check it out,
