Do you need Path of Fire to be able to get any mounts?
I still don't have the expansion but that will certainly be the next purchase i make on PC.

Anyone else figure out what they are doing from a managerial point of view with this game?

A periodic infusion of some new armor skins.
A single production of 1 extension of the story every 4-6 months.
If that doesn't work, then we release a mount to get folks excited about the game.

All in poor attempts to keep people playing as long as possible.

This particular quarterly patch includes a new legendary weapon, a new map, a new story episode, a new Fractal and a new mount with its unique mechanics. Sounds right for a free regular quarterly update even though the patch was launched a couple of weeks later than expected. These Living World patches have always been separated from new raids and other game changes that come in their own patches apart from the quarterly content updates.

I love how they are making a big deal over this. Every mmo site is acting like this is greatest thing.

Yes the mounts were introduced in PoF and are well worth having just because it makes getting around in the game a lot easier.  Luckily the mounts are account wide once you pick them up.
