Then Alpha 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9..........................50 years later Alpha 9.9
Then BETA 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7............................ And you're bankrupt and homeless.
This has bothered me as well, that is exactly how they operate, all these numbers mean nothing, get something DONE !!. I am pretty sure that if someone checked around and did the math,SC will break records for announcing the first Alpha wave and actually getting to Beta. I have never heard of a game taking longer than a year from Alpha to release,i bet this game beats that time frame easily.
They obviously won't go bankrupt, there seems to be a ton of foolish spending making them hundreds of millions simply from virtual ship sales. The problems begin with a release, then the scrutiny hits hard, many complain, media outlets hit the game hard then money comes in a slower pace and layoffs begin. However, would layoffs really hurt this game at all?I mean their level of content release is awful, the entire effort has focused on ship sales and not the game and they can subcontract those ship builds out and basically operate the same with a skeleton crew.
Oh btw ,we forgot one level of release>>>SOFT launch lmao.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Five minutes or less, is that how long you can play the current alpha before encountering a crash or game-shattering bug?
Nope, played 2 hours with a friend yesterday on the same game-server, haven't got crashes or disconnects, there is a greater stability to the game overall, the times of the "crash counter" meme on streams are pretty much gone.
Actually really enjoy the game-server rejoin and group changes, because even when a breaking issue happens you can still rejoin the same game-server and depending on the conditions the ship and such will not have despawned.
I have never heard of a game taking longer than a year from Alpha to release,i bet this game beats that time frame easily.
Lol.. You're joking right?
If there's something I've learned is never underestimate the level of delusion of frustrated armchair devs and kool-aid guzzling fanboys lol
FTFY
Yeah I dont think ED will get space legs, eva reparing, atmospheric planets or big game hunting for that matter but what can one do but laugh it off
Yeah I dont think SC will get private servers, modding, VR, 100 star systems or tens of thousands per instance for that matter but what can one do but laugh it off

Yeah you are probably one of those who doubted CIG could mantain their funding for all these years....
Who doubted about CIG making the engine scale with millions of km play area, seamlessly integrating fps, eva, multicrew, flying ships with no loading screens...
You probably doubted about star marine and then planetary landings on crysis lvl detailed planetoids without loading screens...
You probably doubted that ships as big as the reclaimer with 20+ players in it could be achieved...
Yeap doubts have been around since the beggining due to the ambitious nature of the project, its nothing new.
Yet Star Citizen keeps on proving the doubters wrong and all they can do is move doubt post after doubt post lol
Yeah you are probably one of those who doubted CIG could mantain their funding for all these years....
False. I've wondered how much they might have gone through but that's about it. Any doubts about how much they might raise each year has no bearing on what they actually raise.
Who doubted about CIG making the engine scale with millions of km play area, seamlessly integrating fps, eva, multicrew, flying ships with no loading screens...
False. I've preferred to see whether they can deliver rather than claiming they will not be able to do X, Y or Z. Discussing what they deliver is something different again.
You probably doubted that ships as big as the reclaimer with 20+ players in it could be achieved...
False, yet again. I've wondered what the rendering cost will be for multiple large ships with a large amount of players departing into that zone but that's it.
Yet Star Citizen keeps on proving the doubters wrong and all they can do is move doubt post after doubt post lol
It will never prove people wrong, I thought that would be obvious by now. If it's not one thing then it will be someting else and a lot of that rests on CIG for their grandiose claims and stupidly "optimistic" time schedules.
This is getting pretty boring now. The fact of the matter is that haters and fanboys are not really any better than the other, I don't know why having that pointed out has got you into making these daft claims (while ridiculing people who make daft claims) but there we are.
You just said a post above that they wont deliver a bunch of features lol you forgot procedural birds though...
Ugh... You do realise that none of your 6 "You probably..." comments said anything about me thinking features would not arrive. C'mon dude, keep up with your own posts atleast.
And it keeps proving the doubters and haters wrong every year.
That's why they get so salty with each and every update while celebrating every meaningfull drama like a win lol
It doesn't prove doubters wrong, everything that is coming this year was meant to be arriving last year. Stuff that won't be coming this year was also meant to be arriving last year (new systems etc). Stuff being over a year late is not really sticking it to the doubters.
Well many haters have been expecting (and wishing) the worst for a loooong time now lol They can keep wishing and waiting while we backers enjoy the ride
Well many haters have been expecting (and wishing) the worst for a loooong time now lol They can keep wishing and waiting while we backers enjoy the ride
And many fanboys have been predicting Squadron 42 and SC beta for a long time now, doing their own wishing and waiting (and getting it wrong). Or they parrot what CIG say at one of their conferences or claim patch +1 is the Jesus patch because it gets network bind culling etc.
As I said earlier, people on both sides make similar comments that end up biting them in the ass, I know you want to hate on the other "side" because they throw shit at your game but being a tribalistic troll is not going to change anything.
Being hopefull for the release of a game is completely different from being angry or agravataded when it doesn't happen to the point of engaging in detracting campaigns or even worse become hopefull that the project crashes instead.

Pretty childish comment really... 3.5 by Q1 2019 bring already msot gameplay and complex core tech. 3 more patch till end of 2019 and we will be close from beta if not Beta.
Really such comment do show one thing: nay-sayers are more than desperate...
So glad I got my $2,000 back after the first two years of bad management, pipe dreams, broken promises, and bullshit embezzlement.
Putting 2k on something you have no knowledge about! How reasonable.
This trolling really isn't necessary. He would only have spent $2k if he thought the proposed game and delivery date were reasonable. Not many people give money for a product that they're willing to wait for indefinitely.
Was not trolling actually got into a big dust up with them over a refund had to get the California AG's and BBB involved before they sent my refund along with a nasty email saying they are better off without toxic filth flarn filth flarn like me in their game.
Yea we know... another fake refund story Nice try but it does not scare anyone. There are more NEW bacekrs every single day and we got only 3.2 with next 4 quarter releasing most remaining gameplay, locations and unique features.
Being hopefull for the release of a game is completely different from being angry or agravataded when it doesn't happen to the point of engaging in detracting campaigns or even worse become hopefull that the project crashes instead.
Being hopeful is fine, denying there are problems or wilfully glossing over problems (Star Marine, 3.0 etc) is akin to trolling those who are pissed off when things don't materialise. If people pay money because they're assured by fans and by the CEO that X is coming on Y date and then it doesn't happen, they have every right to gripe.
Every game forum is continuous complaints, whether it's EVE, Elite, NMS, FFXIV, WOW or whatever, people should be used to it by now unless they've not been gaming since the internet became a thing.
Detractring campaigns are no different to shilling campaigns. How many times do we need to go through this? There are people at opposing ends of the scale and both are as bad as each other.

Were Star Marine and 3.0 really "problems"?
Why? Because they got delayed? Because that never happens in game development right?
Anyone that knows a thing or two about game development knows that the implementation of features ends up taking more time than planned, and more often than not even get cut altogether. This doesn't mean that they are "problems" at all. What they are is an integral part of the hurdles of game development. It's part of the process and no company can escape them. It's the nature of the beast.
It's as ridiculous as claiming that a young children healthy days
are numbered because he's suffering from wisdom teeth pain and the parents are the culprits lol
The only real "problem" was that disgruntled backers turned haters used that and other stuff to push a narrative to attack Star Citizen and Chris Roberts professionalism! Mostly because some dumb goons got kicked from the forum's for not liking feature X or Y while derek dumbness tried to rub shoulders with Chris and get money to keep it's LoD "game" from going under (it did) and got ignored so they decided to join forces and engage in a fud/troll campaign that's been going for almost 3 years now lol
They then proceed to turn every single hurdle that happens with any game in development into a heavily sensationalized drama to promote their FUD on the project with a clear but desperate intent to harm Star Citizen by trying to sabotage it's funding.
And if you think that fans of a game, any game, by posting media about the game they like and being happy about features and updates coming out, being genuinely excited for the prospect of the game that it's unfolding right in front of them is Shilling then you are confused about what makes gaming a passion for many people across the world.
Just the audacity to compare that with the ongoing hate and campaign perpetrated by a bunch of disgruntled sociopaths who've used such deplorable efforts like harassing CIG dev's in social media, faking glassdoor reviews, faking "journalist" pieces, faking refunds, faking videos, faking articles and god knows what more lol
If you think that's acceptable or even equal to being genuinely excited to see the dream game get made you are also part of the "problem".
Sorry goons/haters but Star Citizen keeps going strong, you tried and failed, just like IRL lol
The problem SC, and any game in that position, has is that for many there is a relationship between time and money on the one hand and quality and size of the game on the other. If a game takes three times as long to develop as predicted and costs have quadrupled most if not all people expect a bigger wnd better game then before.
If this process takes too long many will expect a game so huge and perfect its almost impossible to achieve. This combined with someone like CR who promises the world and then some while being hugely ambitious creates a dangerous situation, can you actually deliver everything and the moon on just promises? Some will follow CR anywhere because they love his work and see him as a miracle worker, but lets not kid ourselves, the masses don't even know who he is. The haters and zealots are idiots alike, we don't know what the actual product will end up like.
I recently donated to SC and played the latest alpha for a bit. I think CR is a decent developer and he might even make my top ten although most certainly not my top 5. The Alpha looks gorgeous with a stupendous amount of detail, very impressive. Its very much an Alpha though, not the savior of computer gaming, not a steaming pile of garbage, a game, or more precisely, some pieces of the huge SC puzzle. Will it all come together? Who knows? Will it be a lot if fun? Even less know.
I wish them luck, with huge ambition comes a huge downfall when you can't deliver. But the verdict isn't out, lets not fool ourselves. There is no actual game, there is an Alpha, although its pretty cool I must say.

It is just huge resource waste....'

If a game takes three times as long to develop as predicted and costs have quadrupled most if not all people expect a bigger wnd better game then before.
And the game has absolutely became bigger and better than before.
I don't think anyone can deny that, and that's one of the main reasons why the backers keep supporting it and the funding keeps on growing.
It is exactly because we can see the game growing and improving in quality every year.
The most visible enhancements to the original pitch are ofc the seamless landings on procedurally generated planets! The original design was ala Freelancer, where yo would have cutscene into a planet to a selected small location. Now we get full moons to land whenever we want, huge underground cities to explore and are getting full city planets to land in the future.
And that's just the most visible part, we now have much better visual effects, an increasing bigger number of ships, vehicles and roles. A deeper FPS system,
And that's not only for Star Citizen but also affects Squadron 42 , we now have a cast of around 20 Hollywood lvl actors instead of just "1 maybe 2". We got access to the best motion capture actor in the world, multiple studios across the world, some of the best of the best dev's in the industry...
Just like all the other Chris Roberts games, both Star CItizen and Squadron42 will be genre defining games that will push tech and the industry forward. And that's exactly why people are willing to support it as much as they are.
