Errr, if you have already played the game you know wht you like and don't like about it. So I'd say your the best judge of whether you should renew or not.

Were you perhaps hoping that a CoH terrorist would post here threatening to come to your house and torture you if you don't re-susbscribe? Or maybe an off duty hooker and CoH fan would promise something else?

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Soemthing like that happened to me recently. Quit 6 months ago and recently noticed a NCsoft bill on my credit statement. curious I logged on my account and CoH decided that I really didnt want to quit and in fact, ive been paying for the last 3 months. So curiously i logged on and checked my characters and noones been playing them. They are as I left them so I ruled out someone hijacking my account. It was just very considerate of NCsoft to reactivate my account without my knowledge. so very considerate indeed.
  • If you havent played the game in a while, they have fixed a lot of the bad things about the game. They have added pvp which is awesome, and they raised the lvl cap,so i am thinking about quiting WoW and start CoH back up again.Oh and CoV is goning to be awesome.

    I went back jsut recently.
Was kinda depressing how the fundamentals of the game - the fighting - had changed so little. Every mission was and still is just a cleaning mission, tackeling one group of mobs after another. They still havnt added anything to missions (they do tweak the enviornments but thats it), still the same as when the game was relaesed.

The devs seem to think that the skill system they are working on is some sorta holy grail that will add to the game whats been missing. I hope it doesnt turn out to be dissapointing, they've built alot of expectations around it and neglected (imo) other things that need work like the missions.

The pvp is strange, its hard to describe. Every power has a counter power. You may find yourslef taking on an opponent that you cant touch, or vice versa, because you havnt the powers necessary. You may become very frustrated that you cant do anything to some guy, yet, unbeknownst to you, your probably frustrating the hell out of someone who cant do anything to you, and you'll probably never even realize it till you take a moment to think about it.

I left the game when WoW was released.  After playing that since beta, I needed a break and I find COH is just the thing.  No crafting, no housing, no looting issues.  Just plain and simpile fighting.  It is a much needed change from the other MMOs out there.

Having played a number of MMO's I feel that it depends on what you want out of the game.

Star Wars Galaxies... Nice community and everything, but the grind was a killer, if you were a crafter you almost needed a spreadsheet to help you control things. It was a lot of work to have fun in the game.

World Of Warcraft....Started out good, you can solo, nice graphics. But the community really needs a bit of help and the gold farmers are killing the game economy. Also if you want the best gear you have to be a PVP person,

City of heroes... Easy to get into, Customization is outstanding, Community is good. Yes it has not real in game economy, and tends to get repaticious in its mission selection but if you only had an hour to get on one day you still get fun out of it.

My personal Preferance would be COH due to the fact that my on line time can change from day to day. I am also not a PVP'er, nor do I care for gold farmers. COH has a lot of why I game, I think the game is worth what I pay and why I play.

But ultimately it will be your choice and your money.

I was really excited to play this game until I read this comment....I just went from a MMORPG like that to WoW (amazing)..Game still sounds fun and different I may try it down the road to involved with WoW right now

EDIT: I think I might try it after CoV is released

    What a weird question.

If you want to go back, go back, if you don't... okay.

I like it because the combat is fun. Thats about it, because thats about all the game is.... combat.

The game needs more than combat, but, probably won't get it. So, whatever. I'll quit in a few weeks too and move on to something else.

Issue 5 which is due out soon will be changing missions a bit. You will now get escort missions, protect an item for a certain amount of time while people you rescue perform some magic ceremony, among others.

This was one of the worst games I have ever purchased.  Lets go instancing...woohoo.

Ryld, your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't

Instancing seems the direction many MMO's are taking, to increase the immersion in a game and make the player feel like the central character as opposed to one of the many.

I remember back when I played on SWG, the excitment of heading to Fort Tuskin only to find out that the entire area was a shootfeast that did not make me feel like a centralized character.

    Advantages of instancing:

    No griefers
The mission is set up around you and your party
    no kill stealers

I'd post something about the advantages of non-instancing, but I can't think of any. Maybe you, with your hard facts and non-opinionated argument can come up with some?

Whats gonna be so great about COV--hows the pvp gonna work?

Are there going to be whole large areas that are free for all pvp?

    Sorry but duels are pvp....

I wouldnt like to play NC games

I agree CoH is terrible. One of the worst on the market.

However, Lineage2 (another NCSoft game) is the top MMORPG (this sites rating is way off). Its the largest in the world. Awesome game that takes a long time to get to the top end... long play value.

I am American. I have played MMORPG's since Yserbius on INN/SierraNetwork.

    P.S. u sound like u 12, I rite?

The quest in CoV will be the opposte of CoH in terms of quest and much like WoW are probably CoH players will run into CoV players within instances for PvP and they may even install an all out PvP area like Battlegrounds in WoW.

Riiiight, the ratings are waay off. i doubt u have even played CoH, but at least u gave an indepth opinion about it. CoH may be torrible to you... but its obvisously not to the people that rated it here...

P.S: The L2 Ratings are were they should be

it was fun for the first couple of months, you should wait for CoV to come out before you look back into the game.

  • AnofalyeAnofalye Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 7,433

CoH is still  the best MMO out there IMO.

However, if you quit the game, read the upcoming changes in I5 or CoV, if it dont please you enough, you should not be coming back, it will only aggravate you against the nicest game out there. Which is not a nice thing to happen. Rather miss it a little then hate it, it is the best product available! image

Here is a link from the CoV website. This Faq page should answer your questions. CoV Faq

    hope it helps.

If you played it before and already cancelled your account I personally wouldn't bother going back. That stated I will say that with I5 a LOT of changes are going on. Every archtype is getting smacked with a change of some kind or another (none beneficial aside from blasters though that's debatable).

If you approach it as a new experience it may be fun however anyone who has been around for a long time is pretty much going to be disgusted with the changes (and some VERY vocal about it).

There are new power sets coming out for blasters and defenders as well as a new zone for level 25-35. If any of that peaks your interest then check it out. Me personally, none of it interests me and the changes to existing ATs sour me on every playing any game produced by Cryptic now or in the future.

I wish to God I didn't know now; the things I didn't know then.

The thing you have to ask yourself is 'why did you cancel in the first place?' one thing i should add is theve recently added cool new things like archery. also getting a charecter to lvl 50 unlocks 2 new charecters, which are both really cool. ie. 'shadow-night and peace-bringer' I recomend joining again, unless you think its not good value for money obviosly. image
