Headstart for Defiance 2050 snuck up on us pretty quickly after its announcement late February followed by closed, then open beta’s in June. Today Xbox and PlayStation launch officially with PC and to kick off this day in gaming history this is the first of three reviews in progress on Defiance 2050 that I look forward to providing over the coming weeks.

Vanilla game was very fun with its arcade gameplay where you could hack through hordes of NPCs with barely any targeting and tactis unless you've met a (mini-)boss. Now it takes up to a full magazine of an LMG's headshots to kill a trash mob - anything a bit above trash takes substantial effort as if you are playing a hardcore RPG rather than shooter.

    Thank you for your time!

At the risk of sounding like a parrot since this is all I heard every time I died..."ENHANCE YOUR WEAPONS!" Doing so definitely makes a huge difference.

Sadly in Beta this seemed to have no more to offer than the original and the original was mediocre at best, this is probably not a title many will run back too. A lot of people will try it but it wont last long I am guessing..

I will hit 50 this week and try to do so multiple times before the end of these reviews to share any discoveries. Once all classes are leveled though I too am curious what updates will arrive to keep folks engaged.

So basically the same old junk? It seems like every one of Trion's game are falling flat on their face with the exception of Trove. How are these dudes still in business?

If you considered this game junk in the first place it might not be for you for sure but no it is not entirely the same. As DM Kano says it's addictive and also frustrating if you have played a ton before. I too have seen a lot of old names during headstart which may answer your question.

TLDR: It may not suit you and others but remastering games is appealing to many.

Edit: if you are returning and curious how vet players fared in this transition do head to official places to check out information on what was carried over and the Valor program https://www.trionworlds.com/defiance/en/2018/02/27/defiance-2050-faq/

The TV show and the game struck me as being a little too generic, I just couldn't get into them. From what I hear, still seems to be not worth it.

So basically yes, it is driving me crazy.

I played the original to max had a max ego 5000 character that I played all the way through Alcatraz which was the last content update. The amount of effort to get to max was not small especially to get all the damn achievments including driving challenges, monster kills, all weapons maxing.... ugh

No way am I gonna do all that again, like no way in hell.

Been playing D2050 since early access as a combat medic, but now switched to Demolishionist - which is where Ill stay.

Why am I playing this again? 90% of it is the same game, and here I am saying to myself "just need to do this one more incursion, Ill stop after this next arkfall"

The stupid game is addictive, and thats why I am so conflicted.

Oh yeah the PC playerbase is pretty much enirely old veterans - seen a few old timers lol, you can tell people who played this before to max from noobs in a heartbeat and id say from what Ive seen 99% of D2050  players are not new.

So its all about consoles - the pc playerbase is probably 1% of what the consoles end up being.

In closing - fuck you Trion for proving that you can release a remaster of the old game that I maxed out in and here I am playing the same crap again and cant stop.

    Thats seriously messed up.

Still no way in hell I max all the persuits again, but I can see myself playing til full legendary set... and i have no clue
how long that will take since the gear system is one of the big changes.

Ha! What I got from your post: I hate you for giving me what I like. You're scum! The worst! I hope you die a horrible death! Same time next week? Okay, cya then!

    Gut Out!

I played through the original campaign once back in 2014. I honestly can't think of a good reason to do that again. It has the same dated graphics, which were average when it originally released. It has some updated mechanics and it looks to have all the content of the prior game and DLC's, but I'm not really impressed.

My time would be better served trying to find the TV show online and watch it again, because that was a fun ride.

This was a huge disappointment for me as its almost 100% the same exact game even though they claim its been updated "for the modern age" yet has all the same bugs and glitches from the old game?

Worst of all they plan on adding new story content yet they dont lead with that news and is lost in the forums because Trion is always great with communication and the different departments always talk to each other :/

As someone who played in the Alpha and into roughly 2 years after release before giving up on the game for lack of content i only have myself to blame for being excited on something new or different and not just a wipe for PC players only to make the Ps4 and Xbox people feeling behind or left out :/

While i still love the game and most of the show i will wait till they show this "new story content" and just back in then...maybe

Like others have said I can't bring myself to do this all over again.  Its way way way too much like the original.  Its fun for a short while but loses its appeal very quickly.

I loved the original, and the show was interesting to me at least. I'll probably try it out on the Xbox One as it will probably have a bigger population than PC, but I don't want to try it until this lag issue is fixed.

I’m in the minority I’m sure but having played the original and this one, I’m having a blast. Haven’t been able to put it down all weekend and am on the process of leveling my last class now. The mention of new content has me excited to see the future of Defiance.

So it sounds like it will take a whole clip to kill a trash mob. Not surprised it being from Trion.

Tried playing this on PS4, it was completely unplayable. Lag so bad, I'd constantly get killed by the melee mutants, constant disconnects, etc.

Lmfao, a company that is trying to salvage their failing MMOs by remastering them or providing vanilla experiences and failing at every turn. Negative reviews on steam already and I can see why. I downloaded and played this tonight... They were trying to tout this as an evolution of the game, something more. Instead it's the same shitty driving mechanics and farming arkfalls over and over again.

Oh, but they shifted the ego abilities around and made 'classes'. Congrats, Trion.

Downloaded it for the PS4 and was REALLY let down. It's basically the old Defiance game with a new engine and a few minor tweaks. Haven't played long, but I do hope that they did remove that *^&()*^%& ark-key 'feature' that popped in the original game at some time and kinda crippled leveling unless you paid real cash.
