I'll stay away from WoW until the Classic server launch. They seem to be removing anything related to actual RPG mechanics bit by bit every new expansion.

hopefully after the launch of BfA we'll start getting more news regarding the Classic servers. I'm estimating a Q4 launch this year, synced with Blizzcon.

I'm not staying away or anything because I have alot to catch up on but I am disappointed in where it's going, it does seem that they have no clue about fun engaging post-max-level-advancement

I'm not sure they'll make it this year, but I'm sure we'll hear a LOT more at Blizzcon. I'd say late Q1 2019, maybe Q2. Regardless, we know that they're busily working on it and I'd rather they take their time and turn out the type of product that Blizzard likes to produce (and that, frankly, we like to play because of the quality). :)

Very interested if you could elucidate on this, removing roleplaying features began even before WoW. What has been removed?

They have removed Weapon skill and weapon training, they have removed arrows, throwing weapons and poison crafting, they have removed local trade markets (in favor of global AH), they have removed pet happiness/loyalty/food, they have removed spell reagents and now they are removing first aid, they have removed the need for food and health potions for all other purposes than their food effect, they have removed group quests during levling...the list goes on...

I'm actually doing the same, I un-subbed 6 months ago and this is the first expansion I've not bought since the beginning. I just hope that classic doesn’t go down the RiFT Prime route which is my biggest concern.

My question here is will classic give you back what Eldrach says has been removed? The biggest change I would imagine was the loss of local trade markets, the rest is what I think of as RP flavour.

It absolutely should if Classic stays true to Vanilla, if not then who knows.

Awesome. A lot of my old guild are coming back, as this x pac seems to be more their style.

I wish i had your willpower cause almost everything i have seen thus far of BFA has left me less than thrilled. Unfortunately WOW is something I'm always going to return to. The idea of a new XPAC always builds excitement despite the fact i know its going to suck. Haven't had any real fun or immersion since MOP (despite the panda's) , My early prediction is BFA will be another WOD, I can see this one easily debated among WOW's worst expansions of all time. With that said BFA will still be better than 95% of whats on the market now.

Depending on ones style, and being in the beta, I can safely say it s going to be one of my favorite x pacs.

Yikes, I really hope not. I've also bought into every xpac since the beginning and played Legion for a month and then quit, but WoW seems to be returning to its roots in story at the very least with the factions at war being the forefront.

This fact alone has me very excited. I also read Before the Storm and loved it even though I feel The Alliance side of the story was more riveting and The Horde was kind of painted as villians. It didn't seem as balanced as I thought it should have been. Overall, the book has made me even more excited to play. I can honestly say though that if this xpac doesn't hold me then I am done for good.

I guess im not nostalgia driven. I love the direction wow is going since legion class redesign and even with the elites and treasures wod produced. I leveled all classes through legion content in the first patch (before it became somewhat alt friendly) because i just love the gameplay of filling out chapters in a zone and finding all the side quests and since every class was remade for the most part, it felt new and exciting to try them all. I boosted half of them to 100 so its not like i played through all the old content. Before legion i would only take 1-2 toons to max level.

And who knows, maybe since not all the classes are new and shiny with no major reworks, then ill prolly not level them all again. But im still debating which classes i want to take to max first. Which used to be an easy decision... only play dk and nothing else matters.

Im not upset about losing artifacts. I like getting new weapons. The system was ok, but only very few of the traits really impressed me. There are a few cool ones ill miss, but it wont kill the game for me.
Ill actually miss legendaries and the chance of finding something that was super powerful. (I should note that im not a raider so i didnt have to go through that drama of having the perfect legendary)

BFA Azerite systems sounds promising. Dont think it will be super awesome until a patch or two when they expand upon it, but it had a lot of potential for changing your playstyle. Ill assume blizzard will cave to the outcry of the community when they give their opinions on it (mostly that there are very few playstyle changing traits)

Excited about islands and warfronts and of course the story.

And when Anthem comes out- that will be about the time wow gets stale except for new patches.

I played project ascension which is a classic private server. I got to level 20 and “nope”’d out of it . The skills now are just way better. And the talent trees were just atrocities. I dont miss classic wow. Not even the memories.

Sorry was at work. Island expeditions alone were a lot of fun, quick in and out 30 mins and decently rewarding. I really liked the ai in them , not just standing there and you beating on them. The pvp versions of them are really fun. War mode was , surprisingly to me a lot of fun. I love pvp but as I get older I have less reaction time, but it really seemed to bring out some great open world battles.
Warfronts are a lot of fun as well. Sometimes slow moving but the grand scale of them were something I just couldn t get enough of them.
I really enjoyed the new zones, seemed like they took a little more time in making them then in past x pacs.
Finally , add that to WoW as it is and it made for so much fun.
This is all my opinion of course.

Mostly PvPers are excited for BoA. Maybe this is the turning point us PvErs can invade various sandbox MMOs and demand PvE

Dang ... I was hoping to get my Human Warrior to 110 before this hits, but it looks like I'm almost out of time!  Looking forward to the new Arms/Fury spec changes.
People are saying they are VERY fun to play in BfA. I never ran mine around beta, preferring instead to mess with my DK, Monk & Druid, but I've heard good things. :)

Watching what they've done over the last two expansions, it's obvious that they are pushing PvP as the normal playstyle for WoW.  It makes sense if you consider that Blizzard is moving all its games towards Esports platforms.  (This is why D3 is in covert maintenance mode; it's engine/platform cannot handle Esports.)    PvP battles in WoW would be more interesting as a spectator sport than boss battles.

In order for WoW to be successful as an Esports arena game, it needs a base that's interested in PvP.  Which means the game has to change to optimize PvP and push PvP out to more players.  And that's exactly what they are doing.

BfA really doesn't have anything of interest to the non-raider PvE player or the non-PvP player.  Its world play is a cut and paste of Legion.  The island expeditions will get really boring really fast.  They are basically the world invasion quests of Legion but instead of taking place in the world, they take place in an island instance.

I'm not seeing WoW as anything other than Blizzard moving its star MMO to be its star of Esports.

TL;DR:  WoW is becoming a long commercial for arena Esports.

So not even close. Theres more pve being added then pvp. All Island expeditions can be done in pve and Warfronts are pve. Along with the regular WoW pve it s definitely more for pve then pvp.
