What did you like about Trion?

I remember there was a really positive buzz when Trion announced that they would be publishing ArcheAge. Trion had a really solid rep then. I spent money on Rift besides my sub, buying a mount because I was happy with Trion and wanted to support them. I felt Rift was off to a very solid start with some innovation for the time in Rifts giving the world a dynamic feeling (yes, Warhammer had Public Quests first, but still). I enjoyed Defiance when it first came out. Trove was a lot of fun for the first year. And ArcheAge during beta...

If you have or had a positive feeling about Trion, why? What did they do that gave them a positive reputation?

Well the problem with archeage was trion promise it wasn't going to be pay to win, and then dump pay to win item into archeage, then it's reputation went to the toilet with it. may be they shouldn't make promises they can't keep.

When Trion first launched Rift my feeling was that they were interested in making a great but familiar game that could compete with the best in the industry which garnered them a lot of good will.

This all changed however when they published Archeage and saw just how much money you could make from F2P so they got greedy and massively over monetized Rift to cash in while underinvesting at the same time which has led to the current situation where many people won't touch their games.

Reputation is everything; Square Enix realised this with FFXIV 1.0 and righted the ship while Trion continue to flounder and will find it very difficult to get people to trust them again.

Id be the last one to defend Trion , but i dont recall any such promise . altho they were very tight lipped about the monetiztaion of Archeage thru the testing stages here in the West , the whispers thru the community were fear of AA west following the already greedy p2w program that XLgames had established in the East , And Trion never really had any say in it ..

They laid in bed with XLgames , and became there ho , Now Trion has contracted several STDs from XL p2w tactics and there is no Ointment that can fix it ..

Trions once clean image has been soiled and compromised leaving no integrity , Just another Ho trying to get into your wallet any way they can ..

I used to think Rift was better than WoW (and if it was handled right, I would've continued to think that). It definitely wasn't afraid of doing things that wow wasn't like continuous progression through the PA system (all-bit-it a little shallow, something was better than nothing at the time) plus keeping the support role alive, especially since I was playing FFXI for a long time prior to Rift's release, where I mained bard. When they first switched to f2p, they were definitely the best at the time going about it.

It's a good company gone bad.

It's like having a good friend over your house 20x, then he steals from you on the 21st....How do you feel now about that friend ?

I forgot about the souls system in Rift and the flexibility that gave compared to classes in WoW at the time. That was another innovation in the genre for that time.

I enjoyed Rift while it was a sub game the moment it went free to play was the moment I lost all sympathy towards Trion. It was the time when the 1st expac came out I bought it and payed 150$ for it and a year sub not even a month later they went free to play...(F U Trion!!!)

The only positive, if Trion releases a new game I will know to avoid it.

Trion’s bait and switch tactics. Well more like greed and greed tactics.

Every Trion game follows the same formula. Sooner or later they’re going to over haul the game mechanics. Stripping things out, or putting things behind paywalls.

Bugs on top of bugs. Lazy patches that fix nothing.

I liked the fact that they put a lot of effort into making Rift as good as it could be, treated the players with a certain level of respect, and really took feedback into consideration. They also didn't do a lot of the knee-jerk 'balancing' Blizzard does constantly with WoW, and for the most part adjusted things in small increments with a good amount of testing beforehand.

Then they got greedy, went F2P, started ignoring the community, and doing things rashly. Greed can be a good thing, but only up to a certain point. Trion didn't just cross that line, they got a running start and sailed right over it. They went from one of the best MMORPG developers to one of the worst in a very short period of time. A damn shame.

This is why I actually had trust in Trion and didn't hesitate to spend $150 on ArcheAge to get into the beta.

Still enjoying Rift for the souls, and Trove in general (though I may not be keen on the latest Geode thing.)

I actually like the way the name sounds. I personally never played any of their games and likely will not ever, but I do like the name.

I played Trove, great game, and I had no issues with Trion World as a Publisher.

I liked when they first pitched Rift to everyone... until they got cocky and started marketing "we are not in Azeroth anymore".

    They never recovered.

seems like they used to care a lot more about their products and brand. Ever since they went the publisher route seems like they are throwing away their reputation and longevity for whatever short term gain comes along.

Pretty much when Rift came out and looking forward to Archeage. Then Archeage came out. Lost me there.

I've non-ashamedly been one of the biggest fans Trion have had over the years. I also really appreciate this community so I don't mind being open with y'all about Trion from my pov.

Trion is filled with genuinely good, intelligent and dedicated people that are innovative and willing to try new things. This I have always appreciated about them but I think their own ingenuity set them up for a rocky ride as they continued to be one of the first to publish a big title from the East, take on a voxel that will forever be compared to minecraft as they also forged the way for free to play.

These ventures alone were a Molotov cocktail just waiting to explode.

THEN you can add the only mmo running alongside a television series that ended, dungeon crawler from a company that fell out of love with nearly all its games once they found pubg and a turn-base strategy that is trying to be as cool as a MOBA without being a MOBA.

That's the dedication and audacity I dig about Trion.

Over the years the community has also changed and those who lead it from the office. I can admit I myself fell off the positive vibes path recently when I didn't agree with something that was very personal. I've decided since to take a good look at my own conduct knowing at the end of the day I don't want to be one of those folks who takes people, games and enjoyment for granted.

I want to see games nourished and thriving not terrified and burning out.

Trion need to continue being the innovative, game forging company they've always been but I think the community side of things needs an overhaul. We honestly cannot and should not expect everything as gamers, threatening staff members whenever we're unhappy or flying onto another forum stressing out unnecessarily BUT customers also need to not feel ignored. Finding that balance is crucial across the industry so I hope some solid, genuine plans can be put in place for that to successfully and swiftly happen because without a doubt Trion has been the catalyst for grooming some of the best, passionate and thoughtful gamers that are out there - evident by many here at MMORPG.

I was happy with WOW when rift was big and so Devilian was my first experience with Trion.  They were just licensing it and actually had great community people for that game who did their best to polish a turd.  They also didn't sugar coat that they were middle men in regards to the game and simply sent their requests to the developer.

Anyway, Trove was my second experience and I spent like $20 on the game after playing a bit.  I had no issues with their shop for Trove.

Actually Trion never promised it wasn't going to be pay to win.   People always say that.  In truth, they sorta basically said it was going to be P2W and that's the way the game was set up.

Trion started out well with Rift and slowly embraced a culture of fuck the customer then pay to win. And despite what their #1 fan DMKano thinks they do in fact get at least half the blame for the Archeage fiasco. In short, fuck Trion. They deserve everything they get.

Another one trying to take the blame off Trion. This is what they really said....

"Trion Worlds’ position is, rather, that time and money should be to some extent interchangeable commodities - so that a player can spend money to make up for the time a friend might have ploughed into the game, and still be able to adventure together."

The problem here is they did not implement it "to some extent"....they went all out.
