Whales are leaving the boat ?

In the last 3 begathons, they had an average of 30K -35K , we are far from their famous 100K.
Are the whales quitting this sinking boat?
If so, how are they going to complete chapter 2-3-4-5 if they don't have money..

I foresee a glorious end.

The amount raised by the time this update was sent out at 10:15 PM CDT on Friday August 3rd was an amazing: 35K

Because whales are known for living in boats?  If trapped in a boat, I'd think that a whale would want the boat to sink at least so that it can be in the water.  Yes, they need to surface periodically to get oxygen, but whales can't just dry out like they would if on a boat.

    Basically, your metaphor doesn't work.

Leaving a sinking ship isn't really a metaphor anymore is it? It's entered the realm of a 'saying' right?  Not not picking, I'm actually curious if when you enter one realm, you leave the other, or do they both apply.  Total derailment I know.

I'd gladly dance on this game's grave since "Lord British" thought he was so good to sell his blood and trying to profit off of his dead mother.

Yep whales eventually jump ship when a game company goes in the wrong direction in development.

Or they are no longer feeling like it's going to be a good game because of upcoming games.

I think if he sold jpeg images for 1000 dollars each, they'd get more money. They can be jpeg images of richard garriot himself.

A game where we can dress him up in various medieval armors like those old flash games would probably perform better than SotA. Then we can send him on quests in our imagination and stuff.

He should totally bring back "Tabula Rasa" the best game I liked  );...

So if Shround of the Avatar fails, then it will make 2 games closed down?

Fair Point.. but it does say it's playable right now on the Official Site. In what state, I am not sure. So.. yah.. gonna pass on that discussion.

I liked Tabula Rasa too, but only played a little in beta. Wonder if he'll throw in the towel if SotA does fail.

Well there is the NisshinMaru, a Japanese factory ship for whaling. That's a whale disappearing up the ramp!

Shroud of the Avatar will be four failed games in a row.

    Tabula Rasa, fail
    Port Casino Poker, fail
    Ultimate Collector, fail
    Shroud of the Avatar, failing

RG has the money to collect shrunken heads and vampire hunting kits to decorate his mansion, but won't finance his own games.  Smart, but not very virtuous.  How the hell did I ever get suckered into backing SotA?  I sincerely hope people don't fall for his schemes in the future.  The man I thought created the Ultima series is gone, if he ever was.

Whales are not leaving. they have broken up the telethons 4 per month.   All the whales I know are still there kicking strong, I know at least 3 that are no holidays this month so I expect things to slow down.  Not to mention subscriptions now which automatically get you all the telethon items so less people are probably spending every month just because there is no pull to have to use the store.  Is it sinking... nope.  just about to see a huge surge next patch ;)

I would actually look into this game if he added Dragon Mounts and shape shifting.

    Starr Long, July 25:

"I've jumped in a couple of threads lately to express my thoughts. The threads were VERY different. One was highly critical, the other was highly loyal. What I want to point out to everyone is that both have their place here, both are welcome. Please do not try to chase away either one. Our only path forward is one in which we can unite our community, not one in which we divide ourselves into white knights and black knights. Remember that the people taking the time to critique the game are doing it because they want the game to be better and they care. Those of you defending the game please try to remember that in your debates with them. On the other hand those of you critiquing the game please try to remember that those defending the game love the game as much as you do!"

    https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/shrouds-status-criticism-healthy-debate-the-future.135916/

WTF?!? They spent years alienating anyone who dared criticize the game and this is the best that sniveling little troll can manage?

Hey Starr, put your money where your mouth is, little boy. Unban all those players that cow FireLotus and that snowflake Berek obliterated just because they said something negative about the game.

Anything else is just more of your worthless bullshit.

The game must be tanking hard for him to even bother saying that. Game over. Shove it in the garbage bin.

A polished turd is still a turd.  I don't want games like this to succeed for the health and well being of future MMORPG's.  Games designed around virtual sales are no better than the "in your face" free to play games with their lovely immersion killing roadblocks and monthly cash shop sales.  I want the good old days when developers tried to make good games to earn their money.  Now it's just an exercise in greed with psychologically twisted game mechanics and cash shops as content.

A little technical problem is that there's no game, to which he would then attach mounts and stuff.

Actually, he is already washing his hands of SotA - not mentioning it at all in his recent interviews and public appearances, pretending that it never existed; Which is, in a sad way, true.
