I'm not surprised by this sadly. I'm not much into PvP, but imo it seemed Daybreak was not placing their full effort into the PvE aspect ever anyways. I think Daybreak hurt the PvE aspect when they decided to divide the original game trying to get short term profit from making it two games. From time to tiime I go back to EQ & EQ2 just to see what was ... was, but it loses its appeal rather quickly nowadays. I think, in the past when I dipped my toes, some of those private servers have seemed to have done more & were more interesting for EQ & EQ2 than Daybreak.

PVE only is so dead lulz.

A little pve mixed with my pvp sure no problem. Pve only or pve centric, HA! No dev is gonna waste money on that.

This was the last game that i bought from Daybreak.

Do you know how many times my friends say stuff like this - and they keep buying.

The reality is - if the game looks appealing, people keep buying regardless of what studio made it.

If Daybreak makes a good game, chances are you will buy just like many others

Same goes for me, as a matter-of-fact. Bought into EQN and H1Z1, both whimpered and died by neglect. Too many good games and better game companies out there to worry about tossing the dice with this one.

Best time I ever had in a zombie survival game was a month or so after H1Z1 released and they spawned like 3-4 times as many zombies (by mistake mind you) and parties ended up working together because of how dangerous the hordes were. This only lasted a couple days but it was awesome fun.

DBG will continue as they have been milking thier player base . Sad the everquest ip will disappear eventually. The whispered projects are just that whispers thrown out there to keep the loyal fans of those IPs dumping cash into current games patiently waiting for a new Eq or planetside .
It doesn't seem they would have much of player base left to milk from.

    I've got the straight edge.

    1. done
    2. done
    3. done
    4. Haven't bought an EA game since they ramrodded origins down everyone's throats
    5. I haven't purchased from Daybreak since 6 months after the K.A. expansion - and then only for the housing recipes, and only for a single account. And will not again while it's under the current management.

Actions do speak louder than words, especially closed wallets. And while I'm just one person, I know a few dozen more that are in the same position. At least that many more that will not pre-order again, or even buy an expansion until they've seen post launch reviews of it.

While EA or Blizzard or might leave a bad taste in folk's mouth from time to time, they do also put out good titles as well. Something which DBG has failed to do, worse than that, they can't even maintain the titles they have. After all the disingenuous crap and outright lies, they have a serious uphill battle to redeem themselves, and they've shown no interest in trying.

A few diehards will lap up whatever DBG dribbles out, but the majority are not diehards, and there are a lot more choices than there used to be.

Let's be real it is not being shutdown due to lack of population, it's due to lack of an actual game.

The whole thing is a low effort mess. With moves like splitting the game in two to try and charge twice for it.

It is not because it is PvE that it is being shutdown . More like it is the game itself that is not very good.

Look at Gaheris on Dark Age of Camelot. That was a PvE server that thrived in a game that was completely designed for Realm vs Realm and PvP. If people find the core game to be fun and the PvE elements enjoyable the game can offer this option and it can succeed.

What, exactly, is your problem, Kano? Is there any topic you *won't* argue, or feel you possess "The Truth" about?

I've never seen someone argue over everything and anything the way you do. If there's a thread on a topic, almost guaranteed, you'll show up in there at some to start telling people they're wrong, and "how it really is".

Now you're presuming to know what others' will or won't buy, using personal anecdotes, and otherwise terrible examples as your basis.

Quitting smoking, changing/improving one's eating habits, and starting/maintaining an exercise regimen are all much harder and require far more discipline than not buying a game. One set of things involve addictions and/or major lifestyle changes. The other doesn't.

Those were terrible examples for you to go with. Though I'm sure in your mind, they were brilliant and unassailable.

And anyway, as it turns out, there ARE people who have stopped buying EA's games, just as there are who've stopped buying from other companies. So, even absent your "examples", your argument doesn't hold up.

"Groups" do/don't do many things. However, so do individuals. People aren't a monolith. You'd do well to keep that in mind before posting something similarly obnoxious in the future.

why not just open the game to modders and allow independent server hosting?

    so say we all

Here is my 2 cents, for years now SONY puzzled me on all their poor ass decisions ever since the memory stick days. I feel that the CEO of Sony America is deliberate derailing the Sony Brand. SOE is no different, probably the same jackass CEO that SOE have to answer to.

Putting that aside, H1Z1 is a open world PvP zombie survival game? At least that's how its was pitched to me. My thoughts on PvP over the internet is as smart as having lab mice to run a wheel to power your electric car with. PvP only works when ppl play by the rules which again over the internet? Yeah, not even talking about balances yet, you can pretty much expect 1 in 5 match someone is cheating or will be after a week or month in.

PvP games tend to attract a lot of the worst type of players by default and everything in PvP game will have you feeling wasted effort fast. As a result PvP itself don't really work unless youre a Masochist. While RPG pvp is much harder to tell if someone is cheating so the pvp ppl will no doubt defend that aspect to the death, PvP is a must have for them other wise they can't play the game or win is the key reason.

Here is a good example of why PvP is a must have in RPG, make me a lvl 100 char and let me one shot those lvl10 pvper every few minute and let see how much fun they have and the concept open world pvp will be. After a day to a week of this crap on the same players, please do tell me you are having fun still? NO? SO in my opinion PvP itself will not really work in any game for long, of course, unless your a Masochist, a pker, a sad person who need to destroy anything that is hard working, and my favo anyone just like to ruin ppl's fun will enjoy PvP.

To me PvP is a game type likes to divide ppl and ofc PvE is more on the side of uniting ppl. With that in mind, they are pole opposite to one another. Indeed it puzzles me as to why on earth game dev want to put both things together in one game? Obviously greed is the reason and trying to capturing the mass all in one is not a good design, for e,g would you like to listen to heavy metal with classical together at the same time? REALLY?

As funny as its un-logical someone would think it will work somehow, It would work better if game dev where to just make a PvE or PvP game as a separate game. If cost is a thing, you might want to consider not making any game at all. You cant really do well in anything when you mix conflicting elements in and in hope to capture the wii console like trend madness wave thing, your grandma(1950's) can play the game too is not something really achievable for everything. Try mixing 2 conflicting elements in chem, I'm sure it won't explode or anything? Reasons, logic, are you sure you game dev have any of that when you design a game?

Last note, I don't understand game dev would make any money by selling 1/10th of a game as a real game? DLC is to blame for all this Early Access and Day 1 DLC junk. As for trend following its like a very thin bubble and will pop without notice so if youre not setting them then its a waste of money on following one. Its sad every time when companies tries to somehow short change their costumers, they are evidently destroying the industry which they profit from. Take a huge rock and dropping it on your foot much?
