Far more F2P games fail... because there are far more out there. Enjoy the other 95% of MMORPGs. I wish our roles were reversed and I had 95% to choose from.
There are far more F2P/B2P MMO's than sub ones, let's put up mainstream titles on the consideration, the ones that retain most popularity on the genre, and it's where we see the often failure of subscription models.
Companies that intend to release MMO's with required subs should increase the flexibility of the model to cope with a wider audience that would be then willing to pay (more players could counter individual losses caused by it), because otherwise, a traditional sub for AoC, in my opinion, increases the likeness of the game falling into F2P, that wouldn't be a good thing under my.com from what I can tell.
Games fail for a number of reasons. Some... heck... MOST... simply because they flat out aren't good.
Again, not every game has to be for every player. That is where many games fail. They try to satisfy everybody. As a result. they end up with a ton of unsatisfied players. Companies need to define their target market. Too many follow what you suggest and throw as wide a net as possible. That works sometimes but usually results in failure.
I'd rather that some games focus on their true target, determine how large that market is. And come up with a monetization plan that supports it. Sure, it lowers the odds of them catching lightning in a bottle and making a billion dollars, but it increases their odds of making a decent profit and surviving in a crowded landscape filled with F2P/lootbox games that cater to game-hoppers.
F2P games can and should exist. People should happily hop games. Just not EVERY game.

A strikingly honest faq would tell customers that they will say anything to make people buy their games. If they would be honest they would have said those things when selling their previous games and not years later when they try to sell a different game.
I get to listen to the same kind of horseshit every time my boss walks into the room to the point of making me immune to it.

"we will implement the same model for the My.com version"
My.com has one of the worst reputations in online gaming and that isn't by accident. Absolutely shameful, and sad that a game with so much hype gets drilled into the ground before even Beta. Once Intrepid sees how little their founder packs get bought following this news, they will see just how big of a mistake they made.
Intrepid already has an up-hill battle and this doesn't help. They have to pull players away from their current MMOs, and face on-coming MMOs like Amazon's closed-alpha game New World. Going to My.com was such a BAD idea.
What my.com considers P2W, may be vastly different definition than what the rest of us consider it to be. It would have been more meaningful if they said their version won't have a cash shop or at least defined what their definition of P2W is, so we could at least hold them to their word.
As it is now, they could add P2W items to the game and just explain away why they aren't "really" P2W.

What, me worry?
