Sometimes I have been questioned about my concerns that mobile gaming is changing the face of gaming on the PC and consoles. "They are not even made by the same companies" was one of the earlier refrains. Well now they so often are.

Weirdest MMOs and business day ever:

CCP bought up by Pearl Abyss
THQ buys 38 Studios / Amalur assets
NCSoft closes down Carbine / WildStar
Daybreak Games' new investment & mobile H1Z1 / EQ news

Never seen so much activity of this sort in a single day ever.

And none of it Good for gamers
How is THQ Nordic's acquisition of Amalur not good for gamers? Best thing to happen lately IMO.

    The other three, sure.

So you are going to put a cheap version of the game on mobile and cash shop the heck out of it like all the other ones?

Well the acquisition of CCP has potential. They might try to create a new game now.

Mm, if bad things come in threes, then one of these things must be good.  The mystery is which one of these news tidbits is a good thing?
The Nordic THQ buying the Kingdom of Amalur IP isn't bad (they makes games with the IPs they buy and the original owner is pretty much dead) and NCSoft finally putting the stake in the zombie that is WildStar have been long comming.

CCP being bought isn't necessarily a bad thing. Pearl Abyss makes PvP oriented MMORPGs as well. At worst, EvE will get a mobile/console version...

The Daybreak stuff though, that looks like the CA finding a new owner after the Columbus Nova issues...they just went with someone just as controversial.

Mobilization of EQ, that is a perfect sign of the times isn't it?...Well thats if they put a battle royal mode in it too.

I wouldn't trust Daybreak Games to write a Tic Tac Toe game without screwing it up, even now that Dave Georgeson and John Smedley are no longer around to lie to all of us.

    I would love a match 3 MMO.

Obviously not Candy Crush as that entire game is designed around RNG and paying for bonuses to beat levels.

But I would love a skill based Match 3 MMO. Puzzle & Dragon is pretty great. Maybe a mash of that and Atlantica as that was turn based?

Too bad that would make them no money other than me.

EQ died the moment they cancelled the original EQ3 attempt. And I don't mean Next. The only mobile EQ game I'll accept is something like ES Blades.
