Yes worthit even if you don't like it it's just $5...

Also be prepared to Swipe $100 a month or more if you really want to enjoy the game IMO it's a requirement to do this. (You don't have to but don't expect to progress anywhere at a decent pace especially beyond TET, the only alternative is to buy them.
Well he said he doesn't PvP.

lets see what I spent over the past year...

2 outfits (rest of the outfits I got on the marketplace)=60 dollars

Value packs (technically 15 dollars, but you can't buy 5 dollars or 15 dollars worth of pearls, so its really 20 dollars)...so for 12 months x 20 = 240 dollars
However I bought 4 value packs on the marketplace...so actual cost comes to 160 dollars. But I'll still consider it 240 for fair pricing of post.

That is a total of 300 dollars, including the 2 outfits.

    To compare.

WoW is 15 x 12 at 180, but their expansion this year came out to be 230 (if didn't get the collector's edition)...so actually only 10 dollars cheaper for a 12 month period, but 70 dollars cheaper than with outfits included

All the pets I have in-game I got for free, except 1 winter pack one that came with 3...but I forgot how much that was.

So with that. If you don't care about PvP (like I do), don't buy the extras, the value pack is the only truly required thing and maybe a pet if don't want to wait for the free ones. And since value packs are 15 dollars worth of pearls, guess you get an "extra" 5 dollars left over worth of pearls.

But I think thats a scam not being able to pay a "monthly" fee of 15 dollars like subscription MMOs, and guild wars 2 does it too and that pissed me off with GW2. Thats the only scam part of the cash shop. But like I said, GW2 is at fault here too. Both are guilty of it, and one not letting you pay 15 dollars doesn't make it right for others.

I'm one of the few that hasn't played it yet and it is currently on sale...Is it even worth $5 or is it that bad?
it's actually free in korea, japan and russia. it's not worth it especially if you dont want to pvp and even if you want to pvp you have to invest alot of time to catch up to the players with better gear score (this pretty much applies to all mmorpgs so this shouldn't be an excuse not to play it)

you MUST invest atleast 100 dollars on multiple pets and weight for convenience, the game is kind of generic musso style combat where you gather mobs and one shot them rinse and repeat for thousands of hours.

it's definitely worth it if you want a screenshot simulator with rich customization and of course the afk life skill content o:)

yup the combat is great but you basically play through the story then grind for silver to buy better items for pvp so it looks like it's not a long term mmo.

Definitely worth $5 just for the look-see.  Combat combos are entertaining and is the most fun part of the game.  Unless you're in to systems management, in which case you might find the rest of the game interesting.

No. You need at least 100E from shop in order to do something legit. You wont have slots, you wont be able to carry due to weight issues. It has a pay wall and its legit p2w. If you dont like your character and want to start another one, dang another 100E for slots, weight, etc.

If you like having that overpowered feeling, than sure. bdo all the way.

If you believe time equals money then more than $5 has been spent here to answer your question.

But more importantly, your own time also equals money. So if you really ain't into a game then no, it's not worth your time even if it's free.

I believe staring into nothingness is more rewarding than playing a game you don't enjoy. Don't play it because it is cheap.

On the other hand, if you have been on the fence since release but never played it because of the price tag, then yes $5 makes sense and you will get enough entertainment out of your investment.

BDO being a good game or not is irrelevant to my answer.

Even with all the BS and kinda big P2W, it's 5 bucks for one of the most gorgeous MMOs out there, it's worth it.

Some times I view time=money, even if your doing nothing.

I don't like wasting time, I would rather sit around waiting for something to do than play something that is knowingly short term quickly after.

If you like doing stuff like that, here's another solution:
Go to Lowes and buy a pint of cheap paint and a brush.  Bring it home and find a 2x4 or any kind of wood, then paint it and watch it dry !

Cheap paint dries fast, and the first coat even faster.

I bought the game with the pet bonus and played a lot the first day.By the second day i was so disappointed ,i wanted my money back. That is when i found out that because i accepted the pet bonus i waved my right to a refund,i was pissed.

This game did nothing to curb my thoughts on Korean mmorpg's.Way too many unacceptable ideas in the game and the classes/combat is just bad and very unrealistic looking, overall there is ONLY graphics, the rest of the game is just bad.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Do as @SBFord said, try it for 100% free this week end, and then make that $5 purchase if you are having fun and want to see more of it.

My advice: don't care about the 50+ PvP gameplay. Enjoy the PvE part, the utterly awesome crafting and housing/property node system and the breathtakingly beautiful immersive open world.
Thats generally my favorite part of a MMO is exploring the world....I dont have to win so the cash shop isnt a problem.

Every game I've played that some idiot said they had to buy stuff in game to progress I've proven wrong and has been proven wrong and stay COMPETITIVE.

Just shows that those individuals don't really know how to play the game.

Any evidence to show you are actually competitive?

Or is that more of an in your own head thing?

As someone who put in a couple of months into it way back when, yup, $5 is definitely worth it if for no other reason than just to see the many things they do differently than other MMOs - some of which are quite good systems (great fishing, great worker and node crafting system, great city building, etc.)

You'll definitely get your $5 worth.

Its warts don't start showing until you get into it deeper and start wanting to pursue the best gear. Until that point though, its definitely worth a look.
Sums up my thoughts on the matter.

It's definitely entertaining enough to be worth the $5, even if it's just to see all the unique features.

I feel like a lot of developers could do with a good look at BDO's systems too. It would be so amazing for a western studio to adopt the good, while leaving out all the things that typically make KR MMOs such a turnoff for most Western gamers (the P2W, heavy cash shop reliance and horrid RNG upgrade systems).

Why I thought I might like it:
    1. I like fishing in MMOs
    2. I heard the crafting is good
    3. I heard the world is nice

Why I thought I might not like it
    1. Not a pvper
    2. Heard the PVE is ridiculously easy
    3. Cash shops dont usually bother me but this one is supposed to be game breaking
I personally enjoy BDO. You probably won't like it though

    1. Fishing is a literal AFK simulator

    2. Crafting is an AFK simulator, but this time you can command workers to do all the crafting for you. Have to harvest manually though to supply the goods

    1. Only if you make it so. Going out to sea and hunting down fishing hotspots to actively fish from them is a lot of fun for those who enjoy the fishing mini game. Not me personally, but I've known my share of people who did nothing else all day. Active fishing is also a lot faster, so the profits are bigger.

    2. Semi-true. You can also do cooking or alchemy, which your character does himself and that's very inline with most other MMO crafting systems. Load up the right mats, click the button and watch your character do his thing.

Edit: Processing and Gathering are also things your character does himself, and the latter you can't afk.

I enjoyed it a lot. I don't PvP so I cannot comment on that but no one ever attacked me in BDO. Well I never went to an area where anyone might attack me either.

The world is absolutely gorgeous. I enjoyed the node system and connecting them to enable me to make the things I wanted by employing my beer slaves at  collecting the resources and making the wagons, boats and the items I crated for sale. I always was excited to watch my resources grow as I obtained the connection to a node I needed. I often would go there and brave the purple mobs just to open these nodes.

The distance your workers travel is also dependent on which town you employ them from. So they can takes hours and hours if your node is too far off. It is a micromanagement of sorts. You need to brew beer for them and also look after the requirements and space in the bank among other things to watch out for. You can actually see them while you are about running to collect the resources you have assigned them to collect. Empty baskets and full load on their way back.

I had one pet which I hardly used for actually looting since I rarely fed her. She was cute so I kept her because I enjoyed having her perch on my shoulder and fly about.

The thing I loved doing was trading. You can compare the prices and they fluctuate depending on what other players are selling.  So you can either buy these goods from an NPC and take it far away where it sells for more or grow or collect them and check the prices.

Farming was my other passion. I grew crops which my workers then fuelled by beer would crate for me and I would then carry them in my grand wagons to far off places. You can even go by boat and what an adventure that was. Mobs attack you while you are on the wagon, boat  or other conveyance. The world feels so large and real because of the distances you travel .

The other fun thing to do is breeding horses.

I think the game is definitely worth more than 5 so have at it.

If you can't afford to throw away $5 just to see for yourself, you can't afford to play any game.

It's $5.  If you have to ask, you're obviously bored and looking for something to try.  At worst, you're out $5.  At best, you get something to do for just a $5 out of pocket.

You can't lose here unless that $5 isn't money that you actually have and you have to steal it from your Grandmothers wallet.

Did you know, Black Desert Online has a free trial? It's only 7 days, but they have it. I went to their website ( https://www.blackdesertonline.com/ ) and saw a little flag "try our free trial" on the right hand side.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.
