1 Is out right now. The other 2 will be here by years end.

BTW I'm very excited for the newest one. I KS it and got Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenaria for free. Best Ks I've ever been involved in!

EDIT 2 Electric Boogaloo: I also got the Remastered Trilogy for free.

To me it just looks same old, been there done that, i don't see anything here worth jumping into.
Single player rpg's now a days are too boring, walk here ,walk there, unlock this door or that path, then some creatures popup.
There looks like some nice areas to visit but the feeling of linear paths to unlock my next path seems a simple design most every game is doing.I need top at least see an open world design and then lots of choices for stuff to do.The class design with lots of choices,i already have that in games, nice they are giving the options but it is nothing new.
I need to see something different that entices me to play,otherwise,1-2 days in and i am very bored.
If everyone here sees something i don't,so be it,enjoy.

You'd think a guy with the name Wizardry would be absolutely drooling with this kind of game in their hands.

Hey guys, I was just checking the comments. We put a lot of effort into creating a unique combat system and a great world sense. We wanted to humanize the game and fill the world with interesting characters and strong storyline, I'm certain we will make you smile. The writers did a wonderful job of storytelling without need for lore dump or 2,000 year old back stories. It was story telling by reinforcement of the plot via notes and overheard conversations and by piquing your curiosity. And the music wonderfully sets a strong world sense. But you will all be the judge and I hope you really enjoy it! This is the kind of game that made me want to make games.

Great Job on BT4 Brian been playing for quite a while and looking forward to the release..

Thanks for the nice words and indeed we felt we needed to dive deeper in world building as the first games were a bit sporadic in terms of world sense. It's hard to get the Bard's Tale touchpoints across in these small videos but there is no lack of callbacks and characters from the first games. I look forward to everyone's comments when they play and hopefully we can bring back this style of game.

Just want to say that I have Crowdfunded a ton of games (and other items) but this was by FAR the best experience.  The amount of stuff you guys threw at us was just amazing.

I just wish you had released the remastered BT2 and 3 before now.  Going back to BT1 was an amazing experience.  I hate doing things out of order :)

I am enjoying this game in spite of having to stop playing after about 30 minutes because of the first person view. I get a headache and mild nausea I keep telling myself to lean back. I don't even realise I am going closer to the screen but this is one of the reasons I cannot stomach first person but since the combat is turn based I can manage the game.

Loving the absolute complexity in combat and in spite of the fact it is not real time you spend quite some time deciding what to do. Go buy it and play it, I fully recommend it to those who love turn based.

Good news I think they had a patch and increased the FOV . I am playing on GOG and may be I had set it at the level it was before but at max now and with no head bob it is so much better now. 110 FOV helps a tonne.

Bad news keep getting a "fatal error" in the Baedish Lowlands. Same unavoidable fight.  Cannot progress anymore. I guess have to wait for a patch. So sad.

The weird thing is I had rerolled and restarted as I took a skill and wasted a skill point and the character I played before was crashing at a fight down the stairs in Baedish Lowlands that was avoidable. This time the fight is right in the beginning and I cannot avoid it so I am screwed.

They screwed the pooch big time on rushing this game out - still can't believe that mmorpg.com review is 88 - which incidentally is the highest critic review out of all critic reviews on metacritic

    https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-bards-tale-iv-barrows-deep/critic-reviews

Gamespot have it a 40, Destructiod 45 - even those fluff review sites gave it below 70.

As a huge Bard's Tale fan - this game was such a letdown - at this point I think I enjoyed the joke Bard's Tale more making BT4 the worst game in the franchise.

    sad :(

Hey at least there's a decent CRPG out now - Pathfinder Kingmaker - it's not perfect but it's far more deserving of your money than BT4
I think your splitting hairs. The "good" reviews really aren't too far behind and even if you read the fair reviews, they are still pretty good. Mostly pointing out technical issues.

As someone who installed the first Bard's tale and took it off shortly thereafter, this game is FAR better and more palatable.

When you say "first Bard's Tale" - are you talking about Tales of Unknown (the actual 1st bard's tale game) or are you talking about the comedy/spoof game?

Also not splitting hairs - anyone who gave BT4 a score of 88 at launch - must have not put in more than a few hours into playing - I mean giving it 6/10 at launch would have been a stretch honestly.

88 for BT4 is just absurd heck an average score today after all patch fixes for BT4 by critics is 71, user score 6.5

    Steam current score is 56

Again this is not a 88 game by a long shot - 88 is one of those "fluff/throwaway" first-day review scores by sites that just want to get clicks/views.

    Tales of the Unknown.

Narratives in video games are all linear. They all have defined entry and exit points that are travelled along a set of predefined paths. Key actors are irreplaceable and will completely break the entire narrative if killed. Branching options all lead through the same key plot points.

I'm not sure how feasible it is to create a truly non-linear narrative, specifically with regards to key players or plot points.

In all forms of entertainment, key characters do not die unless their deaths serve a specific purpose to the story itself.  That's why key NPCs in RPGs are normally invincible unless their death is a scripted event.

Trying to release the narrative from the key players would likely result in an incoherent narrative.  Why was Sam the Slayer replaced with Bill the Bruiser all of a sudden in Act 2?  Oh, because Sam wandered into a massive pack of savages while you were finishing up Act 1 and died randomly.

None of that does a good job explaining why Bill is now on the path Sam was on before.  To tell a coherent story, you have to have consistency and continuity in some places.

They released a new patch today but unfortunately the fatal error bug is still there and I cannot progress. I think I'll shelve this game and come back to it in about 6 months hopefully when I do a new run then things would have improved.

I really should not have rushed and purchased this game right from release.
