Fortnite the blame for a divorce!

You've probably heard of "football widows" — well now it seems there are "Fortnite" divorcees.

At least 200 couples in the United Kingdom filed for divorce in 2018 while citing addiction to online survival game "Fortnite" and other online games as one of the reasons for their parting of ways.

That's according to Divorce Online, a U.K. company that offers divorce services and resources.

What kind of fragile lightweight marriage did they have if they were willing to get divorced over Fortnight. A real Spouse would play the game along side you and frag your ass till you did the dishes.

don't consider too much on it, more then likely it was just a excuse to jump ship since they think they can do better, if was not the game it would be something else

I came pretty close to divorcing over WoW back in Vanilla days.

You see the problem was that I was spending pretty much all my free time with the game and zero time with the wife.

After a year of that bullshit she had, had enough and we seperated for a couple years.

That crap was on me.

Not because of a game. That is nonsense.

An addictive personality will find SOMETHING to become addicted to. Gambling,drinking,drugs,smoking,and yes gaming in in there somewhere too. The list is as long as what people find enjoyable, and if they have no self control, the outcome is well known. Self-destructive behavior.

I'm happy to say that my marriage is almost 20 years strong now.

The world we live in...  Makes me thankful I found a girl who is as comfortable with "alone" time as I am.  Went from a long-term, disastrous relationship where the girl needed almost constant attention (which is okay when both people enjoy that) to one where the girl is completely fine with the idea that we're sitting in two different rooms at home so long as we set aside some time regularly to do things together.  Much better fit for both of us.

Of course this is completely overshadowed by the number of people who got married because of a video game.

Divorce is as common as air these days.

The article doesn't specifically single out men at all nor is it "Man-hating."

As much as I hate fortnite, sure...too much gaming can put a strain on a relationship.  And I agree with Kano that a relationship needs constant work even years after marriage.  Some require more than others, some can literally coast without a lot of work, but its not an amazing fruitful marriage.

And I agree, there is in instant blame placed on the gamer here.  Has anyone thought that maybe his wife was a pure !@#!@#, whether she didnt place enough attention on the marriage or she was flat out a !@#!@#, that he delved into the only escape he knows?

@cesmode8 's point with the last part though wasn't about gender. It was pointing out how there are two sides to every story. You could change the word "wife" to "husband" and it still mean the same thing.

I had a friend who was complaining about her husband playing games . I told her it is better than him playing with prostitutes. I don't think she agreed with me though, pity I thought I was helping.

hmmm I think it was about gender as that is how he chose to phrase his statement. He was just assuming that the article was about a woman leaving a man for his gaming.

Which sort of is it's own type of stereotyping.

I once saw this news article where a guy who would have a mate round to his house to game while his wife was just left in her own said. "Well she can spend 2 hours on the phone talking to friends and relatives, what's the difference"? And she was  not able to deny that was true.
