Bethesda and members of the Fallout 76 team have granted a dying child's wish by bringing a copy of the game to his home in West Virginia. Wes is a 12-year-old boy who has been battling neuroblastoma for years. However, doctors recently informed the family that they would be stopping treatment of the rare cancer. Wes, a fan of the upcoming game, was sad that he might never be able to play it. Bethesda's Matt Grandstaff of the dev team rushed to fulfill one of this child's final wishes.

Shame on both Nintendo and Bethesda, free ads by using diying childs, you don't need to comunicate on that kind of stuff

This is the kind of news that deserves being reported. Why wouldn't you want to see what the game devs are doing, particularly when it's a wonderful thing to do for a fan.

Bethesda and any other devs/people that sacrifice their time for others like this should be acknowledged and appreciated for their efforts publicly.

Heartwarming, my heart goes out to this little boy and his family.... ...and to those above shaking the shame stick, wake up! Moments captured like this often help bring aid to folks and might see something else develop which is worth any negativity like you're bringing imo. Good on them!

Seeing as this came from the kids facebook and not Bethesda I'd say Bethesda wasn't doing it for free ads.   In fact, most of the time these make-a-wish things aren't from the celebrities or developers themselves but rather family and friends who wish to publicize it.

Nice try though trying to turn something wholesome and heartwarming into something monstrous.

Humans are amazing at times, capable of extreme good and extending a helping hand even to total strangers.

Probably the only reason the space aliens haven't totally exterminated us by now. ;)

God bless this family as they go through this next period of trial which most will never have to face.

Special kudos to everyone at Bethesda who had the wherewithal to make this happen and especially Matt Grandstaff who went the extra mile to see it happen.

can turn it around too, what would the comments be if the headline had been....Bethesda refuse the dying wish of a 12 yo....4 hour drive apparently too long

That's a really cynical way to put it.

However, "it's true," good press is good press and will only help them. But let's not forget that down in the trenches, there are people who work at these companies. I'm sure there a many good people.

And while it's true that generating good press will help their bottom line, any good they do is still good.

That child will not care if Bethesda gets press or not but will care that they could play the game before anything horrible happens.

I agree that humans are capable of amazing stuff, but whenever a company does something that can benefit their image (and future sales) - the skeptic in me would ask - would they have done it if there was no publicity and no story reported?

I want to believe they would have done it regardless - but the question always remains in the back of my head.

Companies are still made up of people and most people would try and fulfill a dying kids wishes if asked too. I doubt the first thought they had was this is an excellent marketing opportunity and even if it was who really cares. All anyone's thought should be is how glad they are the kid got a bit of happiness to cheer him up from how #^$&$ his life is.

Really disappointed in some of the users comments on this news story......kinda disgusted to.

Even if this was being used as advertisement (which Bethesda doesn't really need) who cares, they made this child who is 12 years old keep in mind. Extremely happy on that day, some one who may not make it to see the game released (that means dying for some of the thick headed ones)

They spent the day with this child playing the game he wanted to see, him being a fan of fallout and the company spent time out of there busy life, making zero dollars during this, just to put a smile on this kids face. Are you people really that butt hurt that you cant play the game that your wishing ill on the company and making fun of the fact this kid has cancer.......be ashamed of your selves please.

Argue this comment....just proves my point further, This kid was happy at the end of the day that is what really matters out of this news story. Heart goes out to this kid, Cancer is a ugly, ugly thing....from losing a grandfather to this crap, it is something I would wish on nobody.

I don't think the companies were taking advantage. This is literally a persons dying wish and they granted it. Don't be a nozzle. I dare anybody to explain how they shouldn't have granted the wish and how it's the companies fault someone posted about it and media outlets picked it up.

Meanwhile in the Smash community there was an outpouring of respect for Nintendo and sadness for Chris Taylor who died days after getting to play.

If you have a problem with THAT you seriously need to go wash your face in some cold water and look in the mirror while listening to Don't Worry Be Happy.

To this, I simply say that ulterior motives do not matter unless the intent or result of those ulterior motives is harmful. Worst case scenario, these things are symbiosis in action. Best case scenario, they're altruism. Both are welcome.

Of course there's a positive PR motive here like there always is whenever a corporation or politician does any public good deed. But who gives a shit when a dying kid gets to happily play his game early?
