just like the zombie/infection crazy, BR has hit and IMO is just giving developers an easy out. "add BR it will be less work and people will throw money at it". I never got into the any of the BR stuff. It is simply too shallow and it makes me sad to see all these dev teams putting their time into catering to the BR crowd and not building solid, in depth games.
Well let's hope this does NOT make it to the official launch. I can see it as an easy way to test some PvP aspects but if they go full Battle Royale mode like Fortnite did I will be super disappointed.
It's one feature out of hundreds in the game. It feels more like a "buzz word" than a standalone feature. If you think about it, it makes sense since there's territory capture, attacks on caravans, cities, etc. I wouldn't stress too much about it.
That’s what they said about Fortnite when it tossed in a Battle Royale mode. Ask the folks who enjoyed the original Save The World stuff how that turned out...
But when they released that with Fortnite do you really think they predicted it would become the biggest game in the world?
Also if something like that were to happen, lets say Ashes of Creation released a BR mode, and it became bigger than Fortnite, because that's the example you used, would you really blame them if it changed their development path?
No, I wouldn't blame them in the least....as long as they offer unconditional full refunds to all backers who would want one from prior to the change of direction.

What struck me about the footage was how primitive it looked compared to a video posted recently in this forum claiming to show how well developed the game is.

Well if you don't like the game that is still in Alpha don't spend money on them and wait till the full product is out :-). What change of direction you talking about? The game is like still in Alpha.... this is not even near the final game version.

They say laughter is contagious. But success isn't. If I was to create a game I wouldn't want to compete with Fortnite, I wouldn't even want its leftovers. Crowdfunding is an excellent platform to take risks, to make something new, to at least pretend that you are reaching for the stars.
I'm always disappointed when creative people jump on the bandwagon, for any excuse whatsoever. Let's hope this isn't one of those cases.

This is really sad news and proves the team has little confidence in selling a mmorpg. This will quickly escalate into nothing more than a BR game, the team will see it is a more popular aspect of the game and will begin to cater to the BR part of the design. That means the game will suffer badly because of it.
You cannot dissect, segregate your player base, that is imo foolish and will dilute the overall product. The game needs to focus all players on the same page, that is how a mmorpg flourishes. IMO this team is simply looking at what is making the most money instead of making a game true to their original supporters. This is like saying "thanks for the support, but we want big pockets ful of money,so we are turning a 360 on the game design".But hey TRUST us,we will continue to cater to the overall project and not turn this into a full time BR game...haha yeah right,i remember those same words from the H1Z1 team.

The problem with adding an incongruous BR mode to an MMORPG is that if it becomes a popular draw, the developers will need to balance around that mode.
And the problem with that is that for BR participants to be satisfied, the classes and skills will be "balanced" into a homogeneous mess where everyone and every class is the same. That is just not a group-based RPG to me.
I could see an MMO introducing a BR battleground mode but only if you have to play it with a BR character that starts the match the same as every other character - something similar to how GW1 matches worked but using just 1 "class." They could spice it up by having lootable skills and abilities you can find in the match but starting with exactly the same chance as everyone else is essential for that type of game play.

The issue is that it becomes the overwhelming defacto when it comes to development attention and awareness. This is the issue with Fortnite; and so many other projects that have changed direction to chase the Battle Royal model on its popularity high tide. Fortnite wasn't even a PvP game to start, nor was it going to be. The game was supposed to be a co-op PvE wave survival builder. Now....now it is on ever platform as a psychotic anti-social king-of-the-hill shooter that strives for an every man for himself (or herself) attitude. Not even remotely a ghost of its past. And the PvE aspect as taken a serious backburner.
This is the fear of Ashes of Creation. The game's concept was presented through Kickstarter in the BR infancy, yet looks to be chancing that golden carrot now that it has grown up. And in the process the original concept will be mutated and changed, arguably for the worse.
It's just a mode of PvP that is popular now. That's it.
Fortnite Save the World might have been shutdown by now if not for the BR mode.
The sheer breadth of galaxy-minding on this thread, regarding the BR mode stress test, is absolutely breathtaking. *smh* Idle hands... Oh well. Enjoy yourselves!...until the NEXT controversial travesty.
