@Amaranthar On second reading, I forgot possibly the biggest "downside" - depending on what type of MMOs you like. Crowfall servers will be huge battlegrounds (with econmy, building etc. atop that, but with PvP always on).
You won't be able to just peacefully explore the world; well maybe on some of the stealth classes or with escort, but even so you'll never be 100% safe.
For me, it all depends on how everything works as far as travel and player controlled zones, death, etc.
If players can use the game design to control rampant PKing in their home lands, and if there's no fast travel for others to swarm you in numbers if you are detected exploring, then it should be reasonable enough to manage.
I like risk, I just don't want it weighted against me on a constant basis. I want to be able to use my head and tactically avoid getting killed, if I'm smart.
Shouldn't "how monsters work" been part of the design of the scope of the game ? This game seems to be shifting a bit over the last few months and I know I'm not the only one who noticed it.
I loved shadowbane, but I'm definitely passing on this, there is to much shady for me.
seriously it is l most 2 years later.. o hey this is how monsters work O.o . The same guy who messed up Shadowbane by moving define development goals until they ran out of money and released an incomplete game. Even the graphics are becoming dated , just like shadowbane because "hey, this is how monsters work"
Ship has sailed for this one, it is strictly a 5-10k niche now(when the dust settles).
Monsters have never been the focus of the game, they are more of a... distraction, a type of resource in some cases. They're actually doing a lot more with monsters than I thought they were.
But in the end, the game is about PvP. So focusing on the other baseline mechanics is more important.
Even if the game was more monster focused, you still have to get the world running before you start adding inhabitants.
Oh and also, monsters have been in the game in a limited fashion for a long time, mostly as resource spawns that hit back ;p
To piggyback off of what @TacticalZombeh said, from my limited exposure I never got the impression that mob's were the intended focus of Crowfall. At least in the early developmental stages. As stated previously, mob's were "resources that hit back". I think that the devs are trying to branch out the playerbase of the game, by adding elements that appeal more to your PvE'ers, while not forsaking PvP centric nature of the game.
Personally, I'm not interested in playing the game, but I hope they succeed at their goal. The genre very much needs an infusion of unique diversity. Everyone should have a game they want to enjoy, for their own personal reasons.
It does feel like they've been announcing everything except a release date ever since they sold their engine to other developers. Nothing like selling an untested product. And no, these little buy-in testing phases are not actual tests. The thing hasn't even been properly stress tested yet to see how well it performs in live conditions.
Absolute nonsense. For testing you have to download a seperate client from the Live version however. The Live version is to play around in with what is available, not testing.

Is this thing still downloaded through a clunky zip file or does it have an actual client download now?

I mean, just reading his post it was obvious he knows nothing about the game. I'm glad someone took the time to explain but obvious troll is obvious.

It has a client, which you download as a clunky zipfile

Yes i like the idea of mobs possibly creating havoc among two other rival combatants. Not entirely sure how this will actually be implemented, will it look realistic or fake or controlled similar to Rifts etc etc.
Minotaurs/Centaurs,yeah been done before,Minotaurs i believe were the creatures in their old game DAOC is what i remember when i played it.
That turned me off at the time because i was like a noob and these giant Minotaurs came up and just killed me quick. However i understand gaming a lot more now as well as immersion so the idea "if done right" can be a good one.
As to the opening of this thread...when you say something like "amazing upcoming updates"it sounds way too much like ass kissing ,exactly like this site is advertising for the developer. What SHOULD have been said is by the author something like, upcoming are IMO some good looking updates but we won't know until we actually see them. The intent of this statement as is,sounds you already know they are AMAZING without ANYONE's input.

I got run out of the website for posting negatively on artcrap. I'm a shadowbane victim. I'm a shadowbane survivor. Shadowbane was the closest release game to be a Chaos Thrones contender, crowfall is on that same path. If they fire the one person who will ruin the game, they may have a chance.
congradulations on "mobs" wow so epic, woopdee // in the late 90 and early 200os, we called it "aggro".
Shadowbane, crushing souls since 2003. Awesome, can't wait for CFs launch.

will be looking forward to your input on the finished game.
I am very curious myself, so far I've been enjoying it, playing with the systems a bit. I think the biggest problems with Shadowbane (no resets and no different rulesets when it comes to PVP) are being adressed properly. On the highest settings it looks pretty gorgeous btw, I was pleasantly surprised when I tested it on my new rig.

I really like some of the ideas they have. It could be a game I'd really want to play, except for the ever-present focus on PvP. They can't even delve into one of their more interesting features, like the War Camps without mentioning the ever present threat of PvP. The mob organization into larger and larger groups sounds something that would be perfect realistic 'first step' towards the promises that EQ:N spewed about so freely. Only, this seems feasible.
But, ideas are cheap; let's see how this team implements their ideas.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

What other websites have you been "run out of"? I recognize your username on MMORPG and I'm almost 99% you had more posts. I'm also sure you don't have Maxine Waters as your avatar because you're a fan of her baptist church auntie hats.

Remove "seasons" and it would be a start in the right direction for immersion and integrity.
Pack as much content into a few zones and release a FEATURE full game but with less of,that way the budget is lower but what is released is of higher quality.
Aiming for a feature LESS game, banking on the castle stuff to fund a cash shop and simply having pvp to keep players interested is selling the game short of potential.
My two cents, imo they are building the game wrong, but hey it's not my game, they get to make their own mistakes.

had my acount f-disked and rerolled. So I am starting over. Hopefully with a mutual understanding from the staff who painted me as something I'm not. I really don't want to get it it, lets talk mmo's.
So mobs won't be just for leveling , they will have a rift style of purpose...
P.S. That is Neno Waters.
You're totally not going to relapse, and get banned here again. I believe in you. Great start by the way.
