I suggest you wait for World of Warcraft. I think that's going to be the next best one out there!
I just left AO as well...I was never too high level but I got sick of doing those missions over and over again. Maybe there was much more to the game that I never got involved in? But whatever, so it wil stay.
I've been playing Rubies which isn't too bad...good game but technical issues...and still in development.
All the others are too late to join or are just outdated games...that's why I can't wait for WOW...the thought of joining a NEW MMORPG! (although there will be you losers out there who are max level by the time I kill my first orc...you friggin losers!)
well....as you wait for some of these GREAT games to come out....why dont you come over and ALPHA test Freeworld and help us get the bugs out......you only have today and tommorow to sign-up then we go cloased alpha...but i would love to see you there... www.freeworldonline.com

If you like AO, you'll probably like Neocron, but the community is smaller. It's also more of a FPS combat style, which is different than AO.
Try SW:G only if you enjoy crafting the same newbie pistol everyone else is crafting and want to do that 500 times. Stay away from EVE as well, unless you like mining asteroids ad infinitum.
1)sit and wait for that "next" game for a year or 2.And this is no guarantee it will be good-I point to the thousands that waited 3 years for shadowbane.
2)or go play something out there.
If you pick 1 then sure their many games worth looking at -EQ2,horizons,dragons empire,WoW,warhammer online, wish ,UO X, many many more.
If you pick 2 then head out and try EQ or DAoC.
If you are looking for a sci fi setting then go SWG.
Personally i think a fantasy will be good for you simply for a change of same style.
EVE online is an interesting game which I enjoyed for two months but then the attraction disappeared. My main concern was the lack of depth and meaningful interaction. One of its main selling points is that it isn't linear and allows the players to set their own goals within the game. My fundamental problem with this is with the implementation - at present, there isn't enough content within the game to be able to achieve your goals because CCP are still designing the tool-kits for you to be able to interact with the universe.
There are some excellent developments which are planned such as mobile refineries and other player structures such as sentry guns, force fields etc and allowing Corporations to own systems which should provide the game with more dynamism.
If you can find the review in Pc Gamer (UK version) I would advise you to read that before you play.
EVE is not a game that provides you with an instant hit and is a required taste. Even if like me, you were an Elite and Frontier and/or X Beyond the Frontier player, you may not like EVE. The game is not PvE or even PvP in the traditional sense - it is very much Corporation focused i.e. joining a Corporation that matches your goals set in a politically tense universe, where other players represent the competition.
Please READ up on EVE before joining - the last thing the game needs is yet another player joining and NOT bothering to either read the ingame FAQ and then losing interest or bitching about x feature (usually when their ship is recycled by another player - go figure) in the Official game forum.
It is a beautifully realised game with a wonderful ingame interface but at present, EVE needs to allow the players more tools to meaningfully interact with the universe.

P.s. IMO, you should define what YOU want in a MMOG before asking people their opinions. I could pick x MMOG title but unless I know your requirements and predilections, it wouldn't be terribly helpful to recommend the MMOG to you.
Few questions: 1. What genre of MMOG's do you like? Fantasy? Sci-Fi? Or a variant like Cyberpunk? 2. What type of player are you? Social? Explorer? Achiever? Killer? A hybrid (like most) .. 3. What game environment appeals to you? PvE? PvP? 4. What do you want out of a MMOG? Different MMOG's have different game engines which implement similar features in different ways, thus each MMOG has its own nuance. 5. How much spare time do you have?
Hope that helps!
