I keep herring people complaining. About how archeage is pay to win. But I never here people complain about World of Warcraft or Neverwinter being pay to win or even star trek online . But all of them have varying levels of pay to win. I just don't get why people have such a hard on for archeage when there are clearly more popular titles with the exact same problem. ONE THING I don't like about AA is they you are required to be a patron to own any land. So weather you grind for it or pay for it doesn't matter it sucks. And the other thing is the labor system I hate it because it limits what I can achieve and hinders my gameplay. But anyways it's a mute point because AA is a dead game now. I just don't understand why people support other games with the same p2w model which I consider inferior games get support while AA dies. Makes no sense to me.

who cares a bout these? a dungeon and dragon based game who is not a dungeon and dragon, startrek online who have no star trek essence and wow, since it was the dirst MMO for a lot of people they still keep they rose glasses.

Those where just a couple of examples I could think of right off the top of my head . But I think you have clearly missed the entire point of my post .there are dozens of mmorpgs that have pay 2 win elements but archeage seems to get the most hate for it and I don't understand why. That was my point not that any of the games I mentioned were better then archeage but that those games are not dieing like AA but have the same P2W issues like dozens of other mmorpgs.
It was a flagrant bait and switch, at least for the NA alpha buyers of which I was one.

Trion had been a fairly decent developer with Rift and few expected AA with the egregious monetization model which they blamed largely on XL Games.

I personally don't care much about P2W as long as not too excessive. No idea about today but back then it was pretty blatant.

The real issue I had long ago with ArcheAge was with people hacking and exploiting almost unabashedly.

Did Trion ever get this fixed? One in particular that kept me from even playing once the game went live was where players were botting to grab up open properties remotely and within milliseconds.

I was actually part of a 200 member alpha guild which was ready to storm into AA only to find out despite our best efforts we were almost totally locked out from buying any property, either from hacking or just not being able to log in to even play the first few weeks which actually killed off all interest and we all withdrew.

Also, there were quite a few issues with regards to end game castle wars, bugs, hacks, resets, which seemed to keep happening even on new servers.

Even WoW, Bless, BDO you can hack. They already improve the detection system of hackers. Some of those bug is hard to fix because AA is in the old engine. XLgame is not like Neowiz, Blizzard, EA and those other company that can spend more money to develop the game.
A developer has no business releasing a competitive online game if they lack the will and resources to intelligently code their games (pro tip, don't put everything on the client side)

They also need to provide a solid defense, at least to the point most players can't easily detect someone hacking, something CCP, also a smaller dev house managed to do pretty well. (Botting, not so much)

I used obsidian gears . Take time grind gold to make them epic grade then going to upgrade them , then boom , they stop develop the gears , put obsidian on trash can . Waste all the investment of players .

The problem with this game wasn't it P2W , but the shitty developers who love to mess with the game . Right now they doing cash grab tactic with hiram gears by add grind and sell P2W item called hiram infusion . AA is heavy P2W game were the whales take control of the whole game economy to the point drive other player out of the game as there are only 3 chose , join them , being potato farmer (that go no where) who don't pvp , or just quit .

    Erenor Story

I joined the arena, I totally out played and beat this Primeval round 1. Then I heard a rumbling in the air and lighting struck and I heard a voice yelling "CREDIT. CARD. POWAH!" in a Korean accent then I got scraped 2 rounds straight and lost. It was the most traumatic thing I've experienced gaming. I haven't went back to the arena since. I now just pick potatos and walk around in contested areas global chatting "REALLY?" when people gank me.

I don't like the RNG crafting gear and RNG regrading before because I can't afford. I feel sorry for those people that have a good gear and become obsolete. Those Hiram infusion in the cash shop you can purchase for 1 each account and you can't trade it. You can get those 5 hiram infusion by grinding mobs for 10 min or 30 min. If you just purchase only in the cash shop it takes you a year to complete your Hiram gear. For me I like this new Hiram gear because I can own now the best gear in the game without paying for real money. It is good that they remove those RNG. In 5.0 update I can kill whales already.

I think there is also an increase in the costs of running the game, not just from the coding, but from the hardware requirements when the game is mostly server side, more use of client side resources is probably a lot cheaper, but sadly more prone to being hacked, too many games that had potential have been ruined by client side hacks, though that doesn't lessen the negative impact of the more egregious monetisation methods used in cash shop games of which ArcheAge is sadly just one. :/

AA was one of the earliest if not the earliest that showed how bad P2W can be, it has a special place in all are hearts. :)

I dont think that's ture at all. Star trek Online Neverwinter, world or Warcraft Linage 2 all pioneered Pay 2 Win, along with many others before we ever even herd of archeage
Neverwinter and STO were not seen as typical MMOs, what P2W elements did WoW have back then? Lineage yes but the difference was the built in nature of P2W from the get go.

It still could, all they have to do is make it subscription only and only have cosmetic items in the cash shop. Never going to happen though  :/

I'm with you on that man, but honestly, I wouldn't mind. I keep thinking back to the time when I earned enough gold and farmed enough mats to make my first freighter. I know it might sound weird to some but it did provide me with a nice sense of accomplishment and made me feel like I was making progress in the game. It was nice knowing the times on areas when it would be good to run packs or when it was good to do other stuff until then so I could get ready in advance to either run a bunch of packs to a buyer or just load them on a half-way point plot that I had so I was ready to run them later.

One thing I dont think many people understand about grinds in video games is that the grind is worth it if whatever you earn is worth it. A grind is going to be pointless if whatever you're doing it for is obsolete within a month of doing it (just like FFXIV is having a problem with in Eureka). Getting something like a freighter in AA felt good because you knew it was a long term investment that would eventually make its money back overtime. Those are the kind of rewards that make grinds feel good in games (imo).
