The spooky season is upon us, and there is no better way to celebrate than to acknowledge the scariest monsters and enemies in video games.
So instead of spending the whole night in front of TV or or hiding from trick or treaters, why not catch up on some of the most spine-chilling video games. Go on one of these spooky adventures and make sure that you get your fright on during the All Hallow’s Eve.

Best Games To Play On Halloween 2018
To hell with trick-or-treating, this is the true spirit of Halloween. Check out the list of the most blood-curdling video games and give Halloween the respect it deserves.

Resident Evil 7

Over the past couple of years, the horror video game genre has been flooded with countless titles that revolve around a sort of adopt the same, jump-scare tactics. Though some have been quite thrilling, the genre as a whole has gone down the drain. However, this release by Capcom has come as a surprise as not only did it have an exceptional storyline, it is quite freighting as well.

Outlast 2

Outlast II is a sequel to the first title, Outlast, which in a way, kick-started this whole revamped horror genre. So, you can say that Resident Evil 7 was inspired by this and not the other way around.

Evil Within 2

Plus, with the game being developed by one of the best storytellers in the industry, Bethesda Studios, you know it will not disappoint you. It’s a good pick for Halloween. Ever since the game’s release, it has received favorable reviews, with an average rating of at least 8 out 10 stars.

Dying Light

It highlights a zombie survival with ground-breaking free running/parkour features. Surviving through hordes of zombies, climbing walls, crafting unimaginable weapons, it can’t get any better than this.

Friday The 13th

Well, what if we were to tell you that now you can experience all of that in an 80s stylized video game. Where you, not only can play as one of the teenagers but also can put yourself in the shoes of the serial killers. Tell me, doesn’t this sound exciting?

Hunt: Showdown

Hunt: Showdown is a competitive first-person PvP bounty hunting game with heavy PvE elements, from the makers of Crysis. Set in the darkest corners of the world, it packs the thrill of survival games into a match-based format.

Love the list, I'll give my own if people want more.

I'm an avid fan of horror games and try to play every one I can get my hands on.

I would say if you want scares go with

Condemned Criminal Origins. This game is insanely tense, it did atmosphere super well. It is a bit clunky now and didn't age extremely well, but it was the first time I had experienced having to find weapons by ripping pipes off walls and finding 2x4's on the ground. Super trippy game, lots of scares, that don't even come from monsters, just drugged out people. The second game wasn't nearly as good IMO.

Or any of the Fatal Frame series. That entire series is awesome. It's very well made, I would say the first two are probably the best. The whole camera as a weapon system is horrifying because you have to physically look at what you are trying to kill.

If you are really really okay with an old game, play Pathologic HD. Really clunky horror game made in Russia, but the remake is actually really well done and published by Devolver. Probably the best use of atmosphere I've seen, and has a great soundtrack. Not as much straight up horror as it is tense weirdness, but it's still really worth a shot if you haven't played it. Really text heavy, and a lot of management of time and hunger / thirst but it's worth playing.

I would link videos but I'm currently at work.

Hunt is very fun if you have a friend to play it with. It can make you super on edge waiting for a boss you just killed to purify or whatever it's called so you can grab the bounty because it pings every player to where it is and you have to hope nobody comes to take it from you. I say with a friend because communication during this type of game is awesome, and you can set up some really cool strategies, holding different corners and taking out players.

When I started playing there was around 1200 people on at a time, it took maybe 1 or 2 minutes to find a game whenever I wanted to at any time of day and night. It's been steadily growing (saw a small decline recently) but it hovers around 1500 to 2500 online at a time. But it's still early access so any big patch brings a lot of people back, also when it goes on sale.

YES The Cat Lady was awesome (if you are okay with disturbing content) as well as that companies other game Downfall (which was quite a bit more disturbing in my opinion).

I recently started playing The Cat Lady, I have to do it in short spurts and not at night.  The lack of sleep after my first session taught me that the hard way.

For me, it is most definitely "The Mirror." I walk into my bathroom with the lights off. I flick the lightswitch on real quick and get a good jump scare from the face looking at me in the mirror!

Gets me every damn time...

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

It may not be a 'traditional' horror game, but Darkest Dungeon can be downright disturbing and bleak.  Diseases, phobias, somber music, a dismal setting and various social ills, plus a vast array of completely deranged opponents.  And some of your allies aren't none too swift on the socially acceptable scale.  What more could you want from a creepy game?

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

If you like weird and disturbing the trailers for Agony and Scorn both look like they fit the bill. I hope Vampyr gets a descent steam sale around halloween.

DUSK is an old school shooter (like DOOM). It's not scary, but it's horror themed and gets hectic. It's a lot of fun and mayhem. There are campaign, endless assault, and multiplayer modes. https://store.steampowered.com/app/519860/DUSK/

Here is a 17 minute gameplay video.

Dusk is something that I've wanted to try for a while, is it good? Steam reviews have it at like a 97% which is crazy. It looks like a modern Quake, which is right up my alley. I kept hearing news about it then all of a sudden it launched and I heard nothing.
