imageFallout 76 May have a Huge Hacking Problem - MMORPG.com

With the launch of Fallout 76 a short week away, details have just emerged of a huge potential exploit with the PC version. Based on analysis performed during the PC beta, three fundamental flaws potentially exist that could be trivial to misuse. According to claims by some players, the post-apocalyptic sandbox could descend into chaos until Bethesda manages to fix the issues.

As I said, game relies heavily on the client. Going to be a hackers paradise. It will not be fixed by launch. It will take a month or two easily if they do it properly (dev, test, stage, prod)

No surprise there, while they have some experience to draw from with Zenimax by and large this is the first time for Bethesda to deal with a more PVP centric audiance where cheating tends to be more problematic.

They have much to learn I fear.

Great. More epic news about how solid and well thought out this title is. /Sarcasm

These devs think they have a lot more goodwill from their bases than they seemingly do. That warning from a certain industry employee we know here just seems more and more pertinent as these big name devs make rookie mistake after rookie mistake in their self-serving hype orgies.

We may need to wait a bit longer than we first thought to play this on a more serious basis.

Might just want to just poke around for a bit to give Bethesda more time to get their act together.

its bethesda, they are incapable of fixing it, the whole game to prevent hacking would need more server checking, with won't happen, so there is no fix

Don't worry, for a game it's only possible to have hackers if there will be more than 0 players.

    Thank you for your time!

This game was always going to be a disaster at launch, it has been seriously rushed. Better to wait until the storm has passed and check it out later.

"Secondly, any information sent from the game client should be verified by the server, such as character movement and rate of fire."

Wasn't this already confirmed to be related to a player's fps? Which in turn is related to the game engine, so there's really nothing they can do about unless they: 1) use another engine or 2) enforce a fps cap on everyone so it "ensures" fairness.....(which would be funny to hear a dev say "you gotta play at 60fps or under, otherwise get banned)?

This is some of what Cohn was talking about during his stream. As mentioned by a forum user, this will not be fixed, client side is essential to these type of games and nearly impossible to thwart cheating.

Epic games was the FIRST and foremost advocate against cheating, they spent years and tons of money trying to combat cheating and NEVER succeeded.
So now Epic's stance to anyone paying attention is to simply SUE,you want to ruin our game and the experience for millions of players, that will cost you dearly.

So if Bethesda wants to clamp down, they will have to use the scare tactic, start suing cheats.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

only one problem, that works well if the cheater program is being sold, and you can pinpoint the seller, there some who do this just for the fun of doing it, with means its kinda hard to pinpoint him.

the scare tactics only work if you can find him to scare, and tehre is always a chance the dude who is doing this is living in a country with doing such things is not possible to sue him for.

like I said before it will not be fixed, they will try to lower it, but will fail, and with a game the you just need to unlock the fps limiter to have a speed hack, you see how well it will go to try to pinpoint people doing it right?

pretty much game is dead before it launched, and I doubt they will invest in this game as much as the no man sky people did to save they game

Reminds me of when Bioware shutdown their forums shortly before launch of MEA. Preemptive measures.

Of course it does, it's a survival game.
Exploiting always runs rampant on them, especially during those first few months.

Part of the reason there's no fucking way I'm playing it on public servers. Complete pass until the private ones get added.

I don't think the question is whether or not there aren't hacks on console, but they are far fewer than PC.  Far.... far fewer.

I just read on that the FOV has been locked and Frame Rate capped at 63 fps. These appear to be hard coded so you can't change them. https://www.pcgamer.com/the-fallout-76-beta-now-locks-the-fov-and-caps-framerate-at-63-fps/

You can still speed hack other ways I wont detail out. As well as just teleport around the map
