It'll be ok. The big corps will go off chasing the mobile game mtx money, which is what they do. But nature abhors a vacuum and there will be new developers coming in to PC. The cycle of life.
I say good riddance.  If they do move on, then we will potentially get new companies with fresh ideas and fresh faces.  The current crop of companies have been dominating the MMORPG market for decades and look how quality and innovation have fared under their watch.  We could use some new sheriffs in town.

You mean saved. I'm not going to cry over the lack of F2P mtx filled games coming to PC personally. That crap should have stayed on mobile where it started.

Still lots of money to made from pc players. Plus consoles and pc will still continue to have exclusive titles, probably. I don't expect classic competitions played on cellphones but anything is possible.

PC market is flooded. I know there are so many MMO's available on PC I have to really screen out a lot of ones I probably won't play at all, in the past I would at least try out everything available just to see how it played. Can't do that anymore. It will probably end up being the same with mobile games.

Perhaps it's time to use a good Android emulator to try out some of these on PC. The mobile games I've tried in the past even though they were cash shop heavy, I never needed to actually use the cash shop so far but I've never maxed a character on them as they ended up being pretty tedious.

I agree. The good news is NCSoft makes games these days with designs I have little interest in playing,  so no real loss for me if they march completely off into the mobile kingdom.

Same for Blizzard as well, no great loss there either.

Now CCP, that one makes me cry a little, but as they've shown no ability to deliver anything successful on a PC outside of EVE I understand they have to try something else or eventually fold.

Not disputing how much of their $ came from mobile games, or the popularity mobile games may have, but I'd be very curious to see how the sales breakdown against more current pc titles would go. It's not really apples to apples when new development/recent titles are on mobile, but the pc titles those sales are being compared against are for games that have released 6 - 20 years ago

    How about Black Desert?

Black Desert Mobile makes 3x more money than the PC version even though its only available in Asia.

Mouse , keyboard, controller and you have competition. All can be used in mobile devices. Mobiles are getting more powerful and are to the point where they can run some pretty damn good software. Build for one mobile OS and hit millions of potential players. Build for 2?

I guess the pc sales for that one are so small they didn't even make the info graphic? That does seem like a closer comparison though, with Black Desert pc only being 4y old at this point. It's just hard to gauge this stuff when the pc side isn't really releasing new titles. Mobile may in fact be very hot, but people also go check out the new stuff, and if the new stuff is predominantly coming out on the mobile side while pc is being neglected, that will show up in sales as well

I just had a thought, what if all the big studios jumping ship to mobile results in smaller studios and maybe some of the not so small studios focusing on what PC gamers really want. I mean if  the big studios view  PC gaming as crumbs compared to the mobile $teak someone has to be hungry to sweep in and pick up those crumbs , right? Could this result in a deeper and richer experience for PC gamers ?

Maybe the trash will take itself out ?

As long as pc gamers show their support  for the smaller studios then sure. It’s expensive to create games so to expect a small indie studio to produce AAA quality graphics and gameplay is a huge stretch. However it is completely feasible  for a few devs/artists to create a fantastic Mmo even if they have the financial support to keep moving forward.

I would go as far as to say that if you can’t throw $50 at a kickstarter for the possibility at a good game knowing there is risk you won’t get it at all then the idea if small indie developers being the future of the genre, or pc gaming in general, is lost.

Pls give Aion 2 to mobile

    It is.

Hi Suzie, just a few relevant corrections here. According to a Korean speaking player on the Aion forums, a lot of Korean news sites are saying that Aion 2 is the sequel to the current Aion mobile game, not the PC game – https://forums.aiononline.com/topic/3644-aion-2/?tab=comments#comment-36641

That honestly makes a lot more sense.

There’s also the last line of the NCSoft Blog post about these reveals that confirms they are still working on various PC/Console titles (as had been previously reported about an Aion IP PC/Console game from a job listing in June/July).

    http://blog.ncsoft.com/?p=40163

NC is developing a number of PC online and console games in addition to the mobile lineup that was unveiled at the event.

So I think we can all ignore these mobile titles and just wait for news on the PC games they’re still developing when they are ready.

Edit: Here's one of those Korean articles which clarifies it a bit:
    https://www.gamemeca.com/view.php?gid=1504916
The Google translate is wonky but you get the idea:
NCsoft launched its 'Director's Cut' event to introduce its new MMORPGs, and released five new mobile MMORPGs. Among them, 'Aion 2' is a game that made the official numbering title by strengthening 'Aion Tempest' released in 2017. Information on PCs and console MMORPGs using 'Aion' IP, which was recruited as a new project last July, has not been released yet.

Aion Tempest is what we call over here, Aion: Legions of War, released last year. PC Aion game still in development.

And more forum posts confirming numerous interviews have been done in Korea confirming the PC sequel as well:

    So chillax, folks.

Mobile game development cost is a tiny fraction of any PC/Console game development cost and they turn in lots of revenue via mtx sales. Why do you think all the publishers have tried to put mtx in their PC/console games over the last year...that's where the profit is made, not with the initial box sale.

Also, Mobile gaming is over 50% of the entire global gaming revenue this year...and it's not replacing PC/Console market, it's on top of it, just growing way faster.

GW2 is a western based game, it doesn't exist in Asian markets at all. And western players are not well receptive to mobile games as orientals are.

So the likelihood of a GW3 being pushed to mobiles is very low.

Just check the videos for these new NC mobile games, the level of polishing they have are comparable to PC MMOs. So this whole premisse that all mobile games are cheap, and made by half dozen people at low cost is not always true.

They are right now marketing their games for the oriental market, where mobile gaming is huge.

They need support in the creation of the games as well. That's my point on backing kickstarters.
