Fallout 76 won't be better months from launch; let's be real here. Skyrim has had bugs that have persisted, through multiple platforms, across multiple generations, for 7 years
Not much of a choice one is a broken PC game and the other is a console game. Apples and oranges
A bigger problem is that FO 76 is not much of a game to begin with.
It looks like FO4, but :
- No npc's (and their day/night routines) that are a major part of the FO immersion.
- Quests that are basically long boring holo tapes to listen to, you will soon get sick of them.
- Raiders with their personality are replaced with scorched. Scorched seem to respawn every time you turn around, making everyone using fast travel all the time.
- FO4 character creation copy, so no improvement here.
- Limited crafting options compared to FO4. The weapon customization is one of the good features in FO4.
Then what is the point of PVP in this game? Apart from scrap, which probably won't fit in your inventory anyway, because it is ridiculously limited. Then there is the way PVP is engaged. No surprise attack possible, the advantage is clearly with the person who get's to shoot back to start PVP. Making PVP very cheesy. Not that anyone wants to do PVP anyway.
Oh yes, co op. But why? There are no difficult monsters. The game is so easy and so far seems to attract solo players anyway.
In short : FO76 plays like FO4 mod, but with half the features of FO4 disabled. And this for a price higher then FO4. FO76 game design is all over the place, it tries to be everything, but in the end is nothing. It is not a pvp game, it is not a FO game, it is not a RPG, it is not a survival game.
Do you have a group of people to play with? If YES, then consider F76. I am having a blast in there each evening but I think it helps that I have a "pre-made" group of 4-5.
If you do NOT have a group of people to play with, and would be happy in a single player experience then it seems RdR2 is an amazing game. Likely GOTY.

Won't buy an Xbox to play Red Dead Redemption.
Let's party like it is 1863!
