There can be no recovery unless Activision can be happy with making money than wanting all the money in the world, which won't happen, we all know this. The AAA industry is fucked, look at Bethesda, once loved, now slowly becoming disliked due continusly bait and switching their customers.
Publishers will do whatever is in their power to keep the money coming in, EA
is a good example, they're willing to break Belgium LAW just to keep mtx
in their games.
I think this is a very tunnel visioned and an over emotionally desperate comment. The problem is you are focusing way too much on the situation the way it seems within a very small window of time. The cell phone comment was of course ridiculous and I think they knew it the minute it unfortunately slipped out .... but it wasn't a well thought out response and certainly more of a knee jerk reaction.
I am very optimistic because I actually think that developers do care, but games take so long to develop these days and that with the media being constantly make or break judgmental it is impossible to always be kingpin. With such huge time frames, lulls are also going to last for longer, but with such a huge development team and no new 'legitimate' title or game being announced for a couple of years makes me personally lean towards the positive that they have been working on something.
This is my opinion and where I would roll the dice.
The devs may do, but this is what you have to remember, they don't make the decisions, it's down to the publisher and the shareholders. Caring isn't going to make the money they want.
There's a clear shift in what Activion want to do here on out and the current games aren't on the list IMHO.
No news on diablo for the PC crowd, just sweet words of "it's fine we got stuff in the works. Soon™"
BFA on the verge being labled the worst WoW xpac, just overall lackluster and the same Soon™ from the devs
HOTS on life support even though there wasn't anything really wrong with it.
SC, no idea whats happening with that game
And they've already moved few of their top devs on to mobile projects.
OW is the only game that seems to be vaguly doing fine, unless i missed anything?
I don't think it's tunnel vison in anyway, it's planly obivious. Blizz themselves aren't even being discrete about it. This isn't a tiny shift, it's huge and in a short amount of time, this is why people are so sceptical and pessimistic
As I said above, it's down to the publsiher/shareholders and they will do what they can to make all the money in the world
The thing is- all people that made blizzard great are gone. So there is no chance you see any good new game coming from them since those new people have different background and different skillset. Also the whole company has a new philosophy: for the money, not for the players.
If you think those casual trash games are good man god bless you.
I'm done with Blizzard. There's no heart with them anymore. I remember the hours I put into Diablo when it first came out. We'd have after work LAN games when Diablo 2 arrived. Diablo 3 - blech. Lately, it's all blech. Pretty much after the Activision debacle. It was only a matter of time for the poop to hit the fan. They lost me. Not that it matters much. Pantheon, don't let me down. My hopes are on you.
