ESO is horrible terrible Bore fest. FFXIV is like EQ2. Both of them are far away from best MMOs
Truth is, and every person on this site would tell you. MMOs died with WoW. It was genre greatest achievement , and its downfall. Still WoW is the best. I hate to say it. But its true.

Uh, no. I played WoW avidly from 2005 - 2007, but it's not the greatest and "MMOs died with WoW" isn't a true statement on multiple levels.

Every time somebody says "non-consensual PVP" about games that are OWPVP out of the box they need this. EVERY TIME.
Here's a list of other ridiculous wordings to show how mentally regressed it is:
Non-consensual paintball
Non-consensual flash mob
Non-consensual hide-and-go-seek
Can the lot of you just say you don't like OWPVP because situational awareness is too intense and just play PVE only games and eternally STFU about the matter? Geez.

Reminds me of "online bullying".
"OMG, if only there was an off button to escape this bullying."
The point the original poster was making is that they three games that he says on are top (WoW, ESO, FFXIV) are all considered successful while others are not because they do not revolve around PvP. PvP based(forced) games are generally considered not as successful for a "Best of MMORPG" category.
Do you even follow either game to monitor what they get in terms of content releases and updates? These 2 are the best when it comes to overall updates they receive. Both the speed and size of updates. No other MMO can compete with these two with the content they release so how can they NOT be up at the top? Doesn't necessarily make them the 'best" but seeing as how content is what drives mmo's, these 2 blow the competition away when it comes to that stuff. WoW... well they release content every 6 months and even then its fucking horrible. So much hype for 8.1.. I log in, complete the story quest in an hour and then get a message telling me I have to wait till Jan 22nd to continue. Grrrrrrreat patch. That's just 1 example
lol I've played both games, and currently dabble mostly in ESO, even I can say ESO is pretty much my favorite MMORPG out there at the moment. I didn't like it at first, and being a die hard openworld sandbox fan who hates themeparks for the most part I enjoy my time in it. I get burnt out at times, but breaks are a nice time to play non MMO games. It is what it is. If there was something like SWG but better out there I would be playing that, but there isn't, so here we are.

I agree. Pvp based games don't do as well as others. Players of those games have accepted that reality and don't really care how their game ranks.
The problem I have is when he used the word "forced". Nobody is "forcing" him to play their game. He can move on and play something else.

The best at what? Your comment about WoW being the "best" is subjective. In terms of content, WoW is by far not the "best". It's a fucking shit show. Great example, look how many people hate BFA and everything that came with it. That speaks volumes.
ESO has grown, FF14 has aged gracefully. They are good choices. I am subscribed to FF14 but I only log in long enough to do the Zhloe Aliapoh deliveries.
I want to look forward to Anthem but time will tell. Until then I will play another winner on the list, Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Because reasons. Reasons online games are falling behind, through no fault of their own. They can't keep up to this and be large player scaled.
Its pretty accurate in my opinion. I don't think there are any good Korean MMO's period. I don't like their art styles, the over the top effects, the simplistic action combat, the cash shop based crafting systems. The closest they have gotten for me is Black Desert but the combat is horrid. So that leaves my fate in the hands of Western developers and Japan ( I seem to like their games ).
People saying I 'forgot' Neverwinter. Not really. It was a free to play trash game that came out about the same time as ESO. But even if I did forget it if thats the best example people can cite as a name I left off the list sobeit. But I guess it is certainly more relevant than the game the other guy mentioned that had 5 people playing it when i checked. I think Neverwinter has 3K or so through Steam.

I cited Shores of Hazeron as an example of a MMO that's not even on MMORPG.com's extensive list, not so much as a counter-example to your anemic list of 15 'definitive' MMORPGs. The point was that there are many, many more than the 15 you listed to choose from.

That's what is great about free markets, choice.
