I agree but ironically we will be told that Wildstar closing was due to Fortnite also :)

We have different opinions - shocker.

Anyone who thinks that a single game earning 3billion dollars in profits in 2018 alone has zero effect on other games hehe ok.

    Agree to disagree?

Players spending more time and more money on one product means less time and money spent on other games - it's a ripple effect that can affect some games in huge ways, and some not so much.

But it does have an effect.
I never said it has zero effect on other games .. show me where i said that ,, I said it had zero effect on Unchained .. It was already dead before Fortnite BR existed ..

Stop making shit up to try an make a point .. hehe ok ..

Im certain it pulls players from other games .. Unchained was not one of them and my entire point here .,.

Ill add Fortnite also pulled ALOT of NEW players into PC gaming also , which needs to accounted for as they came from a new pool .. Many many KIds Many first graders .. I know in my sons 1st grade class all the kids at the Bus Stop are Fortnite crazy .. This is an entire new pool of Players ..

    yeah, sure, its Fortnite fault

and if call of duty became f2p and played by millions, would everyone point fingers at them as the evil boogeyman?

Have you guys considered the fact that perhaps the game was just not good?

If anyone doesn't believe that Fortnite will have had an impact on OMD then they can go and study some marketing.

This is a simple summary though.

All products - including games - have a number of things that make them popular / attract people to buy them.

Focusing on games and product characteristics we have type e.g. shooters and strategy; setting e.g. westerns and fantasy; mechanics e.g. fast global cooldowns vs. slow gcd; art styles and so on.

To spell this out but also keep things simple assume there are just 6 things - A to F - that define what makes games unique. Lets call Fortnite an ABC game and OMD a DEF game - 3 steps removed so to speak.

******** "See, see Fortnite has nothing to do with OMD's demise. Its a different type of game" ********

What happens though is you get a ripple effect.

    1. Fornite has a major impact on other ABC games. It will also has a significant impact on games that are 1 step removed.

One step removed as in someone who plays fantasy shooters say might be attracted to SF shooters. Same type of game, different setting.

    2. The impacted games respond: price cuts, more advertsing, new content etc And so a BCD game say may well win back some Fortnite like ABC customers.

The promotions though will impact games that are 1 step removed from them. So a BCD game might impact a CDE game. An SF shooter may win over some SF strategy players.

    >>>>> In other words the success of the fantasy shooter has had an impact - indirectly - on the SF strategy game.

    3. And those games react in turn. Fast forward: the CDE game may have an impact on a DEF game.

Games overlap. And as a result actions taken by one game ripple outwards.

Now this interaction goes on all the time - it is basic marketing. And when you have products of equal size competing you don't see anything. When you have a black hole however the ripples spread far.

Hence Fortnite will have had an impact, maybe not directly but it will have had an indirect impact, on OMD. And other games which - at first glance - are unrelated

It's similar to what happened to gaming when both WoW and LoL came out. All of SOE's games at the time had less than that 1million that WoW got almost right away. LoL came in at just the right time to cater to many developing countries just getting affordable internet so for them the ftp was the lure.

think people are way over analyzing Fortnite and trying too break down some complex truth where there is none.  omd unchained was/is crap, that took a existing IP that had a healthy fan based and said were good enough to make something new and will get new fans even if it piss off old one.

they tried and failed, they then tried to salvage some  form of a hybrid cash shop game and milk whoever they could that new and old fans did not enjoy to the point they could become a commercial success.

Fortnite deserved it own thread for what it did to gaming,  so does wow and mobile gaming.  all 3 were major millstones that shifted the market and spawn clones trying cash in on them BUT none of those 3 are why a company that has pissed off it existing fans, failed to pull in enough new ones for a profit  or make a good game  are why they now have to shut down some of their games...

Remember when Fortnite was a zombie survival builder game?

Yeah, before they dumbed it down and made it easy enough for retarded kids with an attention span lower than that of a raisin.

well to be fair it made them more cash than anything else sooo

its hard to fault a company for making a game that managed to find an insane demand
