I have just played this demo for a few hours, and there is one important thing to add:

This game is NOT made for solo players!

You *can* play solo, but this is currently buggy as hell. When setting your play to "private", you will still be put in a group with others most of the time. And when solo actually works, it's VERY clear you're doing stuff meant for 4 players, there is no reduction of enemies or difficulty.

    In detail:

I tried the first mission 3 times, it's called something with Threat, don't remember exactly. Even though I set it to private, I was put in a group with 3 others the first 2 times. First time, we started at the end of the mission, well at least that's when I joined. We completed the objective and got rewarded, but for me the objective was NOT completed. Second try, we started a couple of objectives before the final one, and for whatever reason, the session ended before we were done, and I got less rewards than first time. 3rd time the solo setting finally kicked in, and I started a long journey through several objectives and A LOT of trash mobs, before finally getting to where we came on the first 2 tries. Died a lot on my way there, and had no chance at all soloing the final objective. Saw absolutely no reduction in difficulty or amount of mobs compared to when in a full group.

Soloing also makes you miss out on rewards. For example, the Alliance system (not currently active, though) will reward you with coins based on how well the best 5 players you teamed up with the last week performed. No team = no reward at all. You'll find info in-game about this by browsing the journal.

If you prefer solo play, this game is not for you. If you love multiplayer games, though, there's a chance you'll have a lot of fun. Also worth mentioning, be prepared to stare A LOT on loading screens, because they're everywhere, even when doing simple stuff like accessing the forge to upgrade your gear.

    My final verdict:

A beautiful world, though EXTREMELY grindy, and designed around group play. Not my cup of tea, will not spend a dime on it.

If you can't try it now, do so on Friday, when the public demo gets available - do NOT buy before trying!!!

I think it's like Left 4 dead 1 & 2. You can play it solo. But it's way more difficult and definitely way less fun goingat it solo. This game is made for multiplayer.
As a dedicated Soloer of all things MP this worries me.

The way the game is set up. It's a lot better with people. Never feels like you're being rushed by others. I usually prefer solo as well. So it's not usual for me to prefer constant co-op over solo. Solo you will feel overwhelmed from my experience.

I noticed the same things when I played solo.  And always being grouped makes it hard to explore as the group tends to fly straight to the next objective and is usually forced to stand around and wait for you or everything is dead by the time you get there.  It's a race to the next part of the mission.

If the game had run perfectly I would have hit max level in the demo easily in one day of play.  So with all the bugs, restarts from a frozen loading screen, and learning the controls and missions it took two days.  Really short demo.

They did say a player could solo the main story.  They wouldn't let me in the demo.
