Help my wife and I

NarishmaNarishma Member UncommonPosts: 74
My wife and I are your typical homebodies.  When not at work, we like to spend our time alone and at home, either gaming, watching movies, or reading.  We have a very small but close social network of family and friends.  I used to be fairly active here, but are and responsibility has kept me from being active in any online forum in years.

I became very sick in July of last year.  We tried to keep my illness as private as possible.  Through the help of a personal loan and smart budgeting we managed to keep our heads above water, despite me being unable to work since becoming ill.  Circumstances have recently changed and we are now floundering.  Without help we face financial ruin.

We swallowed our pride and started a gofundme campaign yesterday.  However as I stated earlier our social network is very small.  It has become clear that we need to broaden the reach of our campaign, and that is why I am here.

If each of you could share our campaign with your friends and loved ones, I'm sure it will be put in front of many caring, compassionate people.

I literally don't know where else to turn at this point, so I came here.  I am a gamer.  My wife is a gamer.  It only makes sense for us to reach out to the community we feel we are a part of.  We know the gaming community can be some of the most compassionate, understanding and giving people on the planet.  I thought about trying to approach some youtubers and streamers, but I'm sure they would be too busy to help, let alone read my request.

So here I am, hat in hand.  Please consider supporting and sharing our campaign to your friends and loved ones.  We will forever be in your debt, and be thankful every day for your generosity.

Thank you.  My wife and I know that most people don't have the means to just give their money away to help others.  You and your family come first.

Obviously I'm not great at networking either!  I actually thought about trying to get in contact with a youtuber or streamer, but they are actually rather hard to contact outside the public space.  I may have swallowed enough of my pride to set up a gofundme campaign and post here, but my remaining humanity won't allow me to beg across the far reaches of Twitter (which I have never used) or plead directly on their Facebook pages.

Going to gaming forums, hat in hand, such as this one seemed the best bet.  We figured that if any online community would come together to help us out, it would be the gaming community.

I reached out to Jesse Cox.  My wife and I have been fans of his for a long time through the co-optional podcast.  TotalBiscuit's fight with Colon cancer and his sad end were ultimately what led me to seek medical attention for my own illness.

Many of the symptoms I was experiencing were the same as what TotalBiscuit had described.

I figured it was a long shot, but in desperation I emailed Jesse Cox and asked him not for a donation, but for him to help spread the word.

He just donated $500 to our campaign.

What an amazing, wonderful person.  Nothing we say or do can ever be enough to thank him for his generosity.  If you aren't already a fan, I encourage you to become one, and support this man who just donated a considerable amount of money to a couple of nobodies whom he has never even met.

    Incredible.
