I played some today and I have to say I'm disappointed. In a different thread someone claimed there was character development in this game (name began with an A). So far there hasn't been anything. Just equipment upgrades and level based equipment slots opening.

This game has slightly more rpg elements than Super Mario Bros 2. I know that most here don't care about this, and probably prefer games with super lite or no rpg-elements, but that's the main reason I play a game. Is anyone able to clearly and with authority answer if there is a character development system that opens up at some point?

I honestly don't think they ever intended for it to have a deep overarching story anywhere close to Dragon Age, or Mass Effect despite the double talk.

It's supposed to be a 3rd person Destiny 2 competitor and if they fixed the mechanical/control issues from the demo, mission accomplished. Flying was fun AF and made all the difference when the settings were tweaked.

My concerns outside of this are:

    • How's the weapon performance in comparison to the demo?
    • Are the first person sections still annoyingly slow walks?
    • Does that "leaving the mission area" respawn thing still happen (I thought it had to do with the demo)?
    • Are there other big cooldown options or is there just the 1 per suit?
    • Is there more variety in weapons and, attachments per javelin (too early to tell perhaps)?

I'm asking about mechanics, not story. An rpg character development system. Is my character going to be exactly like every other maxed level character besides gear? If so, it isn't my kind of game and is the antithesis of what I consider to be a game that could consider itself to be an rpg or use that acronym in it's label. This is the thread I'm getting my information from. - https://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/comment/7431620#Comment_7431620 Azarhal stated - "They didn't show the character development in the video, just the Javelin loadouts/customization. Javelin gets all the abilities because it's hardware. The character development is more pilot related." I'm just simply looking for hard information on if this is correct or not.
There isn't any character customization for your pilot. You pick a face near the start but that's it. The Javelins are pretty much the classes and the equipment you choose is your build.

They did have a skill tree system at one point, apparently, but it got scrapped for being generic because the skills had to be relevant to every javelin.. so it was boring stuff like.. +10% damge with rifles, etc.
Is it just better versions of the same equipment as you level or do you unlock equipment with different, more powerful skills? Also... is there are large number of skill choices you select from to equip on your Javelin?

60$ and you dont even get to customize your pilot? Or maybe customization options for your pilot will be the cash shop....MONEY!

Better versions, new types, one's with unique modifiers. Green and upwards loot have random modifiers, including on what you craft. So, it might be the same sniper but the passive bonuses are different. You unlock new blueprints. There's unique and legendary loot, that has a big play style changing effect on it and the usual smaller random modifiers.

So you might find, for example, a component that has +50% melee damage and +15% to assault rifle ammo. You might find or craft the same mod again that has +50% melee damage, +5% combo damage and -5% flight overheat. The melee damage is standard, the others are random.

There are more random modifiers on higher rarity loot.

There's a good amount of skills and you get better versions, with random modifiers on them just like everything else, that drop as loot. You can craft them too, if you have the blueprints. I don't know what the total number of skills is yet. Each Javelin has separate ones though and you can find skills for another javelin when you're not playing it. There's a higher chance to find things for the one you are using though.

I'll keep an eye on it. I'm a little annoyed it got billed as a shooter and not an action game because my expectations would have been a lot different. I still want to see how fun the loot chase is. I also want to see what the end game play loop is about. If it has fun Diablo 3 style solo rifts/bounts/events then great. If it's grinding group instances/events like Destiny then no.
I feel the same. If it's just dungeon running at endgame I'll probably just come back for content updates.

Who are you kidding? This post sounds like some low-effort internet points gathering. Blizzard to this very day, after 11-12 years in the business have connectivity issues on expansion launch day. Every single time. You have to draw a line eventually and figure out that it's not very possible.

All networking systems have pure hardware limitations which the software mitigates. But sometimes these mitigations cost a lot. So we program in a way that ... mitigations ramp up when demand ramps up. Which is all fine and dandy in a perfect world where your players progressively ramp up connectivity. Unlike with big name launches where you have thousands of players straight up DDoS-ing your servers.

I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of DDoS protection doesn't kick in against legitimate traffic. Either way, I've been watching tens of streams last night. So people clearly get in in about an hour or so. Which is far better than big name MMO companies like Blizzard or ArenaNET. Hell, have you tried getting into overwatch after a patch? 20k+ player queue.

I didn't have any connection issues, but I do think the game has a lot of problems. I am having fun with it though and do like it overall. Some of the bigger issues are:

    1) Frequent load screens, long load times (on ssd)
2)Story is kind of a mess - There are maybe one or two stand out characters but most of them seem pretty generic. The story structure reminds me a lot of Destiny. It has some "oh that was neat" moments, but lacks the UMPH the characters had in that game. Don't expect Bioware storytelling here. It actually feels like the game was built then a story was tacked onto it.
    3) VO is okay but all the little dialogue...trees? seem like a pointless waste of time
    4) Performance is much better but still leaves something to be desired in the open areas (Mainly in fort tarsis, that place is still an utter fps dumpster fire)
    5) UI is still a mess
    6) You look at the UI A LOT
    7) Missions lack critical information sometimes, directions can sometimes be unclear, and it is still a little annoying to find the mission indicators. The green tracker missions are also the worst.
    8) Seems some of the events are a little buggy and become either uncompletable or you can't see how to complete them in some cases

Now all that said, it feels GREAT now. The controls are MUCH better on keyboard + mouse. I can actually fly now without randomly going into walls. I still find it a little awkward to go straight up or down, but it's much better overall. (Same with swimming) Gameplay is good enough so far, I think there could be a little more onscreen feedback for certain aspects though (grenade indicators from enemies, for example) The scaling is really strange in the open world areas, it seems to be balanced around playing around people all the time on any difficulty above easy. The mission content is solid enough, but could use more variety. Honestly can't think of much else thats positive, but I do like the game so far. I think the main issue with this game atm is going to be fixing load times and the UI. Other stuff I am concerned with is more content related. (Lack thereof at end game, potentially) P.S: 6 hours played atm

For the moment, complaints are more about the bugs in gameplay and the cash shop, if that ever gets sorted out then you can probably expect complaints about the origin thing, until then, bigger fish to fry. ;)

...I think what you are experiencing is due you falling behind your group.

It is quite unsual mechanics but the game tries to teleport you to specific way point when some other member of your group progress further down the dungeon/map.

There is a visual notice prior your teleportation. Could that be the case?

There was a down time? I haven't had any major issues since I started playing. 2 brief disconnects, out of 17 hours of play. I do hear some people are having CPU compatibility issues (not sure what that's about) but everything else seems to work just fine from what I have seen and heard.

I think the actual downtime could be counted in minutes. It wasn't down long at all. But, haters gonna hate. Everyone get on the negative hype train. :D

I never had a problem and have been playing for the last 6 hours. At Level 13 currently.

Honestly I am a bit shocked at just how fast sites like this and Massively were so quick to post negatives about the start for this game. Why would you jump on server performance 5 minutes after they fired things up? Of course there's going to be a few problems, everyone in the world is trying to log in at once. I waited a half hour (duh) and have not had problems getting in all day long.

and let's not mention all those who so quickly jump on that hate train and agree. It has to be shit because it's EA right?

Game is not perfect, the loading times are still a drag but overall it's a lot of fun and I see a lot of potential for it to get better. Character development? Prolly not. As has been said it's a 3rd person looter shooter and so far it seems to do that pretty well.

Page three and NO ONE has complained about how this game is exclusive to the Origin store on PC and how incredibly unfair that is and how their computer is being manhandled by all those horrible launchers? I. Am. So. Disappointed.

They should have advertised it on Steam for months and then pulled it at the last minute.

I experienced this a couple times, but with people who were just RUSHING the second they loaded in, without waiting for any other team mates to spawn in. The issue is the wall keeps moving where they are, so even if you are rushing to get to them it keeps the same countdown timer.

Also the loading is weird, I'm not sure how the game loads things, but there are no loading screens unless you have to be ported to your group. You could be 10 feet behind the line where you need to be, and it will have a full loading screen for that (which are quite long for me) which in turn causes you to fall behind again and potentially hit another load if the people don't stop for 10 seconds.

    Indeed.

I just cannot say whether it is a design and working as intended or some technical limitation since the free roam maps loads normaly.
