What side of MMORPG design do you stand on?

    This is probably part of the problem...The players are so far apart as to what they want that the companies just go with what has worked in the past. Now they figure that we just want Battle Royals so they are cranking out battle Royals.

    Indeed, but it is more complicated. Fortnite is nothing new as a game. But as marketing and accessibility it is entirely new. It took LoL F2P model, combined it with multiplatform apps, and sold it with dances :) Fortnite is far more competitive game than LoL. And the majority of people like to compete. The first developer who successfully implement FFA OW competition in a MMORPG and make a good marketing, will have a huge success.

    There are so many missed opportunities even in good games. Like Albion - it is not F2P. Or EVE - it has not flying simulator and FPS.
    Fortnight is not a MMORPG, it has no progression that can be lost to some FFA Troll. MMORPGs have progression of some kind that can be hampered by FFA Trolls. that's the key difference,  especially when harsh death penalty is put into the mix.
