SWG Vet looking to come back

I played SWG for probably about a year, Dec. 2003 to about Dec. 2004...

I have now tried about 5 other MMOs and none have really hit the spot like SWG, so I ask, what has changed?

I'm mainly talking about the expansion and what it has added. The CU sounds awesome, but what about the Wookie expansion?

Rage of the Wookies, which also includes Jump to Lightspeed is a pretty darned good add on (in my opinion, since saying the game is good seems to bring out certain trolls these days).

it's not like any other planet in the game, there isn't really free roaming, it's instead a big theme park.  to get there, you have to launch into space and hyper there.  once you land, you can start talking to NPC's to get quests and exploring.  A lot of the trails have invisible walls on them to keep it somewhat linear.  It's not too restrictive though.

Some areas require you to complete quests before you can get in or advance, which adds a lot to the adventuring aspect of the planet.  A lot of the quests require you to complete tasks both on the ground and in space.  and of course there's loot, lots of loot has been added, and most of it is pretty good stuff.

that's the very simplified general not too specific overview of the planet Kashyyyk.

Is it possible to get it by itself? I already JTL and don't need another copy::::15::

if you have the game installed, then you can download just the expansion.  you'll get a free Veractyl mount..which is kinda cool.

for around the same price (maybe a couple bucks more), you can buy the Total Experience box set, which includes the original game, JTL, and RotW and you get a free BARC speeder, which is VERY cool (never gets destroyed, it can be repaired and it's pretty fast).

you can install it over your current game directory and it won't affect anything or do anything bad. there is no stand alone boxed version of just RotW.

Combat Upgrade completely changed combat. Thats what many people did not like, especially veterans. New players and old players that left SWG in 2003/2004 for a while usually like new combat system more than those veterans.

    Game before combat revamp ...

wait 30 min to find a doctor, get a god mode buff, solo 95 % of game content, get bored out of your mind, stop playing  (unless you DONT grind and just have fun in a great game for the last 2 years). PvP highly unbalanced (only hit against mind were important and you killed yourself doing specials with your weapons as it deducted points from health !!)

    Now :

Game more dangerous, soloing slower and high end content needs group, new combat roles, buff is nice but not required, more profession balance between the 32 normal professions (excluding Jedi which are by definition not balanced)

    Have fun

PS: Sorry for posting something I already posted in another thread but I think it answers some of your questions.

In my opinion the game is better now than it was Pre-CU. Others don't like the CU and have major gripes about it. Bottom line the game has a different playstyle than it did in 2004 because god buffs and mega-armor are gone. The game isn't a walk in the park with uber-god-mode turned on now.

Now, some people do hate the CU but, typically, from what I've seen from those who are returning from 2003-2004 most of them like the changes.

I'd say re-activate and see if you like the current changes. If you do then either upgrade with the TE box or the ROTW Download. They're about the same price. I recommend TE because you get the BARC speeder but you get a neat lizard pet if you download ROTW.

But since you have an account with JTL I'd try the game out with just the CU (just re-activate and patch) and see how you like the new ground game before spending money on the expansion.

If you like it, great! If you don't like it you're only out $14.
