So back in the day, i would lose my life to Wow, i could use up to 20h a day and still not get bored.

I really cant find that feeling in any game atm.

So was wondring, do you others have a mmorpg that you can lose your life to and just spent all your time in it and have a joy, and why?

20 hrs is new record , the old record was 18h for a boss raid in FF11 . It was over 10 years ago .

I used to spend 15-18 hr days in SWG years ago on weekends (if you count AFK time). Maybe partly because travel took so long in those 25sq mile maps. I pretty much lived in that game. I knew people who stayted logged in while at work running macros. I haven't found an MMO since that has made me want to stay logged in it more than 4 hours at a time before burn out sets in.

Not anymore. But not because these games are gone but because my time got much, much more precious. I am a husband now, a father of two, a house owner, watching over my parents, I have a career. Back in the days I only had a girlfriend and uni to worry about.

Most that remenisce about these glorious days don’t realise that they themselves have changed more then their beloved genre ever could (because in all brutal honesty its stagnant as f**k).

20 hours? erm,  would think that would be unhealthy.

I used to play Lineage 2 a LOT back in the day but probably no more than 5 hours in a day. Which also might be considered "unhealthy" by some!

Now I play Lord of the Rings online for 2 or 3 hours or might  do the same with Elder Scrolls Online. I've recently downloaded Ryzom again and will do the same with that.

I have no issues playing video games for a good portion of the evening but would never do so for 10 or more hours at a time.

It's an MO, not MMO, but I've been playing Ark avidly for the past month and some.

I have been playing it's sequel "Atlas" and enjoying it a lot playing on several different servers to get a feel for different game play/settings.IMO Atlas is a bit better than Ark but basically the same thing.
I don't approve of what Snail games is doing using the same template/engine to rehash several games with simplya new skin but then i remembered that is what all the dev studios have been doing with Torchlight 1...2  Diablo 1..2...Destiny 1..3..The Division 1...2..goes way way back ,Baldur's gate 1....2,All of these games if around long enough just rehash with a new skin because it saves a ton of money and time and yet they sell them as brand new games.

Atlas allows me to build anywhere, sail the seas in realistic water, meaningful weather effects, very realistic type creatures, survival eating/drinking,treasure bottles with guardian battles,on the seas warfare or simply add artillery to land bases ,anywhere you want.It has discoveries and sometimes takes some real hiking/climbing to discover,oh yes you can even climb the sides of cliffs, scale walls and the game is VERY challenging with ZERO hand holding.

The base mode of Ark is actually too challenging for me.  I've tried various servers with different settings, but ultimately I had to set up what I wanted, which is a starter/home zone which has no large dinosaurs and no predators larger than a dilo.  I just got really tired of having my house destroyed, not to mention being 1-hit killed in my own backyard.  Now the challenging content is there but I can engage with it when I'm in the mood, not get interrupted when I'm trying to gather basic resources or tame a starter mount or grow some crops.

    20 hours? that's it?

I think my most was 24-30 hours straight on Diablo 2. But I did it so i could then sleep through a 6-7 hours bus ride.

It's been a long time since I have had lots of time to invest in gaming.  I think SWTOR was the last one where I really went all out and played crazy amounts of time. I took a two week vacation to coincide with early access and played each day until I nodded off lol.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

The two MMO's I totally sunk my time it was
    Anarchy Online
    Earth & Beyond
This was back in the glory days of the MMO and I was younger. AO was in 2000 and E&B was in 2002 and I played both at the same time heavily.

It wouldn't be different since just last month.  What didn't you like about it?  From what I've seen, the hard part is finding a server you want to play on, or getting your mods sorted out if you want to play solo.

30 minutes to 2 hours of Anthem.  NBA Live events for gear and 5 v 5 games.  Those are the closest things to MMO I play.

Salt and Sanctuary with kiddo has been fun.

I think the environment has changed now. I know I don't have the time to play that much, and no one really should. I think a good virtual world might make me want to spend that much time in it. You should be able to play a variety of "games" inside that world to mix it up. Hopefully, VR will be a little better and I'll be standing up moving around playing to make it less of a health hazard XD

Not a MMo but since I been off for layoffs I been playing Fallout 76. Bored now after getting my platinum trophy.  Playing a little Starwars Battlefront 2, bored again waiting for Titan mode later this month.

No mmo can take all my time anymore just a fact of life. Back then ya WoW and Lineage 2 were 10+ hour days because I didn't have shit to do. Now i'm lucky for 2 hrs a night.

No matter how good an mmo is I will never get there again.

No MMORPG for me.  The only ones around worth playing have been around a long time, hard to get back into a game after spending a decent chunk of time.  Part of the reason is the general death of the MMORPG as a genre, the other part is communities in MMORPGS are a shadow of what they use to be, which is what makes it so hard to get back in.  Little general chat, little interaction, finding an active and boisterous community is very difficult.

While not MMORPGS i spend a lot of time in POE and Warframe, both capture the loot and progression pretty well with adding a more interesting combat approach than MMORPGS ever did.

I tried to get into Neverwinter, which ill probably go back to, as it at least has interesting combat, and i feel is under rated at least in the early game.

Nothing good on the horizon is a big downside.  MMORPGS always lived on the hype of something new and better around the corner.  All the upcoming games...aside from camelot and amazons ark attempt (in a very boring setting) are the only two i see making it, and i dont see camelot lasting very long...basing your game on huge fights that require a large population....great in the mid 2000's, not so much a good idea these days.

Sto when I wanna fly a ship, GW2 when I wanna wvw, Anthem-D2 etc for shooters and on and on.
BDO for afk progression. Umm, just one no.
Just one mmo for me would have to be something with gates to different types and styles of play.
But I have high hopes for DUNE and 2077.

I have a lot of time right now and even I dont play MMos much anymore. To me, back when I was new to the genre my views of certain things was much different and more naive to certain bad time sink game designs.

Some examples of what I mean:

    1) Levels:
In GW1( it's not a MMO but fits this discussion) it had only 20 levels, and I thought that was stupid back then when games like Runescape had 100 levels and WoW had 60 levels. The idea of a multiplayer online RPG having so few levels seem stupid to me. But fast forward a few years later to the second expansion of WoW. Keep in mind each WoW expansion increased the level cap by 10 each back then. So I had already experienced this first level cap increase in the first WoW expansion TBC, so when the second time came around I woke up and realized how pointless these levels really are. They just a time sink. I use to be one of those players who thought levels were needed to learn your class.  So why do I need a new level cap when I been playing this same class since Vanilla WoW? Levels as a whole are pointless.  Give me a different progression system.

    2) Guild Required Group Content:
This is usually Raids in PvE. I loved Raiding back in Vanilla WoW, but everything changed when WoW introduced 10 man raids as the new main raid format ( Vanilla had 10 man raids but 40 man raids were the main format.) I saw a new level of drama that turned me off from guilds ever since. I personally been very supportive of the LFG Queue tool since WoW first introduced it, which had a lot of backlash across the genre. I remember Trion was heavily against this feature at first but changed their tune when people complained about how hard it is to find groups for dungeons. I believe there is a place for Guild Required Group Content like traditional hardcore Raids, but I also there should be large scale group raid instances for casual pugs in a LFG queue as well. This is actually the appeal I have for the harder open world meta events in Guild Wars 2. They require coordination, large group of players and leadership, but not on the same level as traditional hardcore raids. I just would love if that game added more of these instead of making them short term meta events.

    3) the importance of Sandbox elements:
Theme parks is the ideal design in my opinion,  but Sandbox elements are important for long term appeal. Normally on these parts of the internet people think of FFA FL PvP when talking about Sandbox. But I dont think that defines Sandbox. Its bigger than that. Being able to change the world and build on the world is a forever content. Also giving players the tools to make events and ove that others can do would also add unlimited amounts of content, which is something all new Themeparks have a problem with coming out the gate, especially they designed their MMO around leveling with a fixed max level cap zone content endgame as mentioned in the first point on levels.

I've been on a MTG Arena rampage.

Will be getting back to AlterAeon or Screeps at some point.

Started to give Worlds Adrift another go to write a new review for its PvE servers.  But gave up after it had yet again another item duplication bug.

And I'm in a "Keep forgetting to unsubscribe" cycle for FXIV.  I don't remember which story mission I gave up on, but I do know that it was on that silly salt flat city thing.  Which adequately describes my feelings towards the frustrating story/chore missions at times.

For me it's been ESO lately. When I first bought the game about 3 years ago I didn't really care for it but around November I decided to give it another try and now I'm hooked like I haven't been hooked in a long time. Like others have mentioned my time to play has changed also but both my kids can mostly take care of themselves now, youngest having just turned 19 and my job has a set schedule so having time to play is easier. I have had this whole week off also so I've been playing about 10 hours a day, lol.

I recently discovered POE and am enjoying it, mostly as a solo game,  but apparently grouping is where at.

I might try grouping some in the next league,  right now I feel too much like a clueless noob, which I clearly am as ARPGs arent something I have much experience in.

As far as MMO I give my money to two games. ESO and SWTOR.

I never stopped my sub to either because I think they are good products and I want to see them do well. ESO has done very well. SWTOR although its imo the best writing in recent Bioware history since Mass Effect/Dragon Age, Its starting to lose its luster for me. These days I only check in to run a few FPs and help new players. A new xpac is needed for vet players.

ESO I'm still exploring and finding new stories. There is so much content to explore, and I have yet to do everything. I take my time in SP Elder Scroll games and really get immersed. That's the same approach I took with ESO.  I sort of just ignore the main quest for a while and meander around the map doing things that happen as I see them. It really feels like an adventure.

ESO feels like a real world space and the quests are super well written. Everything feels designed as if it's meant for you to become part of the Lore. There is great intent and purpose in everything. This isn't a collect 10 pelts over and over type of game.

My time is being pulled away ESO right now to play The Division 2. But my heart is in the other DC
