For some, crowdfunding projects. Others, AAA hype trains. Even others, MMORPG renaissance (I've been a desperate fool there in the past, and I know I'm not alone here in that fact). Beyond our little hobby: relationships, politics, health "cures".... The list goes on and on. Most aren't fools for everything, but most are fools for at least some things.
I don't believe I'm a fool for anything specific, more of a general fool I think.

I am being ask to prove my own feelings here. How can someone prove their feelings? I am entitled to have them and voice them. For me to ridiculed here by certain folks and made to look like my opinion does not matter because I do not toe the line here is a shame. Also, pretty quick another Anthem article came after this article.... Burying the negativity? Taking after reddit hmm?

Well u have the right to have your feelings. Once you post them on a open forum we also have the right to disregard and ridicule them.

You stated you "felt" robbed by EA, one poster challenged you directly to explain exactly how were you robbed and offered advice on ways you could have easily avoided the problem.
True, you collected a number of LOLs and were mocked by some, but hey, sharing ones feelings on the internet pretty much always results in this sort of reaction.

...you know, there are people out there as barmy as that, which rather puts our gaming obsessions into context. At least we don't take health advice from an actress????!!!!
What happens when games are a product or service and not a passion? This.
Very few games are made out of "passion"; devs want to eat.
Even if a game has been "made with passion" however delivering it to you, me, and however many thousands or millions of others want to play it is - absolutely - a product / service that costs money.
"Passionate devs" might "mortgage their houses" - which I would call gambling in the hope of a big payoff rather than passion btw - but the companies that make the servers, provide the software licenses, the banking facilities, telecoms facilities, offices, electricity etc., etc. they want paying. Not to mention people the company might directly employ - customer services staff, operations staff etc.
Games are all about the product / service.
And this is what happens when products / services don't perform as expected. Whether its a game or a car model.
Ok then, do you accept that the average mobile game is made with less passion than the average PC game, and if so why is that?
Many devs play and enjoy gaming and have a professional pride in what they produce. I knew someone who was part of a team that developed mobile games, he didn't really like talking about that, and looked forward making what he called a "real game" on PC/console.
So there is an occupied space between mortgaging your house and being a company man. Gaming is an art form like any other form of entertainment, if you put the product before the art expect soullessness to creep in. You make a better game/TV series etc if you are passionate about those mediums.
I do accept some of your premise however, some of the early gaming studio bosses described themselves as trying to make themselves a fortune doing something they loved in college, it was a big risk for big reward. These days the CEO's of major gaming studios are parachuted in from the likes of Haagen-Dazs, gaming means nothing to them.
I don't see why there should be any difference between mobile or PC; I think extrapolating to the entire industry from 2 people is a stretch. (I know people as well btw). There can be great mobile games as well as crappy ones and the same goes for PC. And if you think about it when EQ1 launched was played on a windowed screen on (mostly) 12 to 14 inch monitors. There are bigger tablets than that used with a keyboard and mouse in some cases.

A voice actor hired to read lines should do so professionally but with pride? An artist creating trees and flora should do so with professionalism but pride? And that is before you get to the legal, HR, finance, IT staff and so forth. In an interview that Bungee gave to Gamasutra they said that the team was over 450 strong. Were they all passionate?
Professionalism is what a company hopes even when the task at hand is dreary and mundane. Pride is something companies hope for - it will increase the productivity factor! And in large companies its really about corporate culture; large being anything over a few hundred people. Which could be shaped by whoever is in charge even if they have no product experience but - its complicated; lets simply say I don't disagree with your Haagen-Daz comment.
So Professionalism - absolutely agree. In large companies look at corporate culture which can be decades old and be something that employees can take pride in. In small, very small, even individuals - maybe you can have passion; as long as they have enough money to eat, pay the rent etc. Its amazing what the prospect of no money can do to passion.
