I saw first hand what happens in Germany when you get mouthy with a cop, you eat pavement. Same in Austria, sadly I fucked up when I was in England and I got roughed up a bit. So no shit our cops shoot more people in a day than most countries do in a decade, never mind we are one of the largest countries we also do more to handicap our cops than most countries. Anywhere I went in Europe, Asia, shit even Mexico no one wanted to cross the cops because if you do, they are going to contain the situation immediately. They do not have to negotiate with anyone to do their jobs, and this leads to far fewer shooting. In my case, I didn't get shot but by the time they got their point across I was thinking that might have been a better option.
Now to your next bout of genius, 20 years WOULD be enough if this was a one-time thing. But the perpetrator had a history of doing this kind of thing and should have been smacked a lot harder in my opinion. As a matter of fact, were I the family I would find out which gang was working in his prison and make a sizable donation to someone's canteen to ensure the fuckead that caused my loved on to be killed never saw daylight again.

If you ever think you aren't getting a fair shake in the US.. travel down to Mexico where they basically hold you hostage and you have to pay bribes. Also, you guys need to put yourselves in the officer's shoes.. you get a call about a hostile situation that is potentially deadly. These guys are human too, that is not the kind of call they want to get. They are going into a situation not knowing if they are going to see their family tomorrow.. so yes, they are going to be trigger happy.. as you would be too in that situation. At the end of the day it's whoever is in that house vs you.. and pretty much every single person on the planet is going to pick themselves first.

You worked in intelligence, I worked in crisis response as a bomb technician. When you are doing this type of work you don't have the luxury of being cautious when you get a threat like that. Again, no need to go in guns blazing, but you certainly need to do everything you can to protect yourself, your team, and the civilians around the scene.
You all seem to act like the Police Officers have all the time in the world to investigate, question, etc. They don't, it is a crisis response for a reason and it is sad some fucking idiots figured out how to abuse the system but they did.
Before the fire department rolls should they question the neighbors and make sure it is credible? Or better yet, Yeah I need at least two neighbors to call me and verify this emergency before I roll this ambulance out to handle your heart attack. Then you would all be bitching about how slow emergency services is to respond.
Also, it wasn't the entry team that shot this guy, it was an officer that thought he saw suspect behavior, so in reality, the Swat team wasn't the culprits here.
Anyway, this conversation is about as useful as trying to push a rope uphill.
