I am really interested in FF also however never really got around to playing it. In the UK the game can be found for as little as £10 so this has to be worth it for the cost of a months sub.....
It's a shame I never got to play this as I always loved FF.
As a recent convert back to FF XI from WoW, they both have their pluses. ' I came back to FF XI because of the community. Everyone just seems a little bit nicer and more willing to help.
I got banned from WoW, back to FFXI. Yeah, WoW was fun I guess, was on an unbalanced server (Horde was getting the beat down and I was on horde), level 60 got banned wasnt to fun, only had 15 days of gamplay tho, not to bad I guess, got to lv300 in my tradeskill in 1 day, kinda sad, PvP is fun if you can ever get a 1v1 fight, which is near impossible, though 2v2 3v3 are fun too, but still impossible, end up more like 5v1 followed by them /laughing and /spitting on a corpse. Yeah, it was cool and all but I needed a break anyways. I persionally always liked FFXI better, been playing it since 2003 when I bought the import JP version.
I'd have to give it to WoW, I played FFXI before wow and i liked the game but LVLing sucked so bad. Like in all mmorpg you want to be able to lvl whether its slowly or not and FFXI I found myself looking for a group 3/4ths of the time when i was playing. It seemed that it was grouped more around grouping, than soloing. WoW was different the graphics were better (though thats just a plus not a major deciding factor) but the gameplay i really fell in love with. had two lvl 60s as well as a lvl 47 in under 7 months, which was kinda sad. lvling up your skills can be maxed in one day...some of them. Id like to see someone max out enchanting in 1 day. If you have the gold than you can max almost any skill in one day i guess, but the majority cant be. First Aid...ya that can be maxed in one day, fishing as well...everything else you need a good sum of money to lvl up. The one major draw back i found with WoW was that i was getting bored after my 2nd 60. Though they have implemented several things towards the time i quit. Now i just play FPS (CS, CS:S, URT) but ya, if you have tried FFXI than try WoW, and vice versa. FFXI to me was a let down and wasnt worth the time i spent standing in line on the releasing day at midnight lol. But eh, to each there own :P Check out FF7 Advent Children though, that moves was awesome!! The graphics rocked and the fight scenese *drool*
FFXI is the first and only mmorpg i ever played, and I have to say I loved it for quite awhile.
I am at the point now, where i am EXTREMELY frustrated with it and i will tell you why. Unfortunately, I cannot devote hours and hours to playing. If i am lucky I can get in a few solid hours a week... It takes way too long to party and get exp (at least once you start to get around level 35+)
It was super-dope for a while cause there was a bunch of stuff I could do solo... but not anymore. I know the whole idea of MMORPG's is the community/party/group thing, but it would be nice if you could still do some solo stuff, still get some exp, still do some quests without having to rely on other people all the way through the game.
I am now looking to try something else, and everyone says i would like WoW.
Is there any other game out there, that i might enjoy considering I loved FFXI but also want to be able to play solo? If I go online for only 2 hours, I want to be able to accomplish something rather than spend the whole time trying to form a group which if im lucky will get me 1/10 of the exp I need to level in about 3 hours.... I have heard both good and bad about WoW, but i havent heard anything about any other games besides "You should try <insert anyone of a gazillion games here>" ... I would greatly appreciate some input on this...
Really it depends on what your playstyle is. If you like more casual gaming, with some PVP, and a little more colorful graphics, then WoW would be for you. If you want something with alot to do, is much more of a grind, more realistic, yet still anime like graphics, lots of fun and diverse jobs, and of course the Final Fantasy aesthetic, then FFXI is your choice.
Personally im more of a WoW gamer, because its a little better for my casual lifestyle. I am still a hardcore gamer, just not a hardcore MMORPGer. I did enjoy FFXI, but it just took to long, imho, to level, and get anywhere decent, along with the long group wait times. So personally I suggest reading up on the features of each game, and see which appeals to you most.
Alot of the people who reply to you on a post like this are just trying to agrue that their game is better. In the end, your the only one who knows what you like.
Another thing, is that although people dont seem to get this, MMORPG's are meant to be played with other people. And while WoW is better for solo, its only that way for certain parts. Frankly, anyone playing a MMORPG wanting to solo most of the time, shouldnt be playing a MMORPG, as that defeats the purpose of a multiplayer environment.
"Oh how wrong we were to think immortality meant never dying."
Thanks for the response... You may have misunderstood something i said. I currently do play FFXI. My highest level is 45... I absolutely love the game. I love the whole MMORPG thing too. I am not looking for a game that I can mostly solo, i am looking for a game where i can solo and still accomplish stuff instead of waiting around for parties all the time.
The problem is I got spoiled. When I first got the game, I was able to play about 5 hours a day. That lasted for about a month, then a major schedule change which only allows me a few hours a week now.
I want to try WoW, but coming from FFXI I heard its way too easy. Thats why i was wondering if anyone had an opinion on other games out there.
I really appreciate your response! Its nice to see someone that actually explains themselves rather than just trying to plug their favorite game...
FFXI wins for me...its a great MMORPG is you like team work...
WoW, is a fun game dont get me wrong, but a friend got to lvl60 in two weeks, I play more then he dose, so it would be like 1 week for me...that why i just play it at his house and never got it...
both have there up and downs
but FFXI has the best devs, and its really fun ^___^
As far as everyone quite say, wow is a shorter, quicker experience that will surely keep you addicted for quite a time, say about 6 months as the end game is fades away quite quickly. FF is the opposite in a way. I started on november 2003 on release, got 75 in less than a year, led 2 linkshells (i.e. guilds), end game ones, doing all of it and seriously. I stopped a couple of months ago, when i saw myself in the mirror. The more you will adavance in lvl, the more you will like this game. A lot of people said this already i know, but you need to at least see lvl 60 + in this game to know what it really is. And now i would even say lvl 70 since the lvl gaps are smaller and more and more people are lvl 75, so more infants who relied on others to get there. It does suck in a way to need to get so high to get the full hang of it but, the end game is worth it. Nothing is like ff xi's end game; its actually why so many come back after checking out WoW and other mmos. So yeah, if you want to have something worth it in the end, imo, go ff, but keep a healthy life schedule, keep training, eating well, going out to see some ladies, study, and dont insult your roomate when he tells you the phone call is for you. If you want something more "arcade" and short and far less challenging (i know people get mad when they read that, sorry its true), but way more healthy and video game oriented (not life threatning) then go WoW. But know that trying ff for 2 months and getting lvl 35 is not sufficient, you need to go ape in this one, to the end.
P.S. stopping ffxi totally is a real challenge, its like a drug, and im not joking. When you get far enough and get into the game enough, even if your social life is excellent and all, you will have a hard time not going back. So think about this before making a choice.
Edit: ya i just saw you were getting ff in 2 days, but one month ago... Anyway, i read more comments on this thread and not to blame anyone, but they mostly come from people who didnt got it to the very end and played the end (yes you can be last lvl and still not do jack as you need to find yourself a good gang to do end game monsters and quests with). So since you made the choice of lenghty gameplay and irremediable downslope to hell, well dont give up till you get to the end, and play with skills, listen to what people say, (after 1 year and a half of playing i was still learning a lot). Since this game is pretty much advanced (old), you'll find lots of experienced players and also lots of cocky idiots. To avoid them, just play well and behave like an adult, you should have a blast then. Also, as for the japanese being racists, yeah there are aggressive japanese on each server, but they are not all that way so dont bother too much, just get along, dont talk back to the morons.... and final fantasy 11 is a great game. Economy is ruined though. Hope this help ya.
That is wrong on so many levels that i won't even argue that besides saying... stop soloing and reading general chat... Taking a char to 55 another to 49 and another to 42... I've met far more nice/helpful players then ones that aren't. Maybe its YOU thats the jerk and making others mean to you, i really don't know.
But one thing about ffxi that you'll never see in wow.
I had to pick up a game again, so I went back to FF XI. Luckly my credit card information was current, so my 53 blm and gear was all there. Omg, this game has me hooked again so hard. I am serious, its like crack coccaine, stay away if you are the weak of heart.
Ok ok, its a pain it the behind getting up to lvl 50, and Limit Break one can forever kiss my little Taru butt... But this game Rocks when it comes to content. I can't belive I toyed around w/ WoW (don't get me wrong WoW is good in its own respect as numerous people have already posted). But as for me, I had to mature and come back to FF XI.
A new expanison is on the horizion, adding new jobs, new lvl cap to 80 I believe, and lots of new content.
Simply put... If you have 6+ hrs a day to devote to a game that is not perfect, but darn close in its own right, then play FF XI. If you want more off a simple, easy, "I only have a few hours to play and I want to accomplish something" sort of style, then play WoW.
As for me... Its Crack time again... I need to work up my fame in Bastok so that I can do the mini fork battel for Titan... JOY
I have an unused copy of FFXI and Chains Of Promathia and WOW and a WOW 60 Days Reload card sitting in my room. And now i'm torn between those two. Tried reading them manuals to help me choose but didn't work either. Tried reading forums but both games has its pros and cons.
This is already a very difficult decision and the fact that I have both games making it even more difficult to decide. I have limited cash and time so I can't play both....

The game is extremely too easy.
You state that it's the best game out there, and then give two very valid points that should make it garbage ....
Sort of self-contradicting....

FF all the way. I hate waiting in line for a group match in WoW. I don't know how FFXI is the worst MMORPG ever, because I personally enjoyed it and according to rankings so do most other people. The grouping system is survivable, and much better than waiting in line to jump into a WoW match, only to discover your team is about lose and most of the other players were abandoning the lost cause. WoW does have good PvP matches on occasion, but depending on your luck you could get stuck in an unfair matchup more often than not.
In my opinion i would go with FFXI not just because i am a fan of it but the enviroment in WoW looks alot more cartoony where the enviroment in FFXI trys to make it look realistic as it can get. Also i have found that the community in FFXI doesnt seem so war hungry all the time but as usual you do have people that will flame you for stupid stuff. My advice go with FFXI

I agree and disagree with you. IMO, i dont like FFXI at all, too complicated for a MMORPG. Plus, a dollar extra per character. I dont like the FFXI graphics. WOW, is a good game, nice setting, it is kind of cartoony but it is fun. I vote World of Warcraft.
Both games are great in their own respective ways. It really comes down to how much time you have to play, and the difficulty level you enjoy. FFXI is very very hard, but with that difficulty comes a greater sense of accomplishment. The time commitment is a bit harsh, which is the factor that caused me to leave the game. At the time I was juggling school and work, and decided to switch to WoW. The time commitment in WoW is very suitable for the casual player. Playing every other day, I was able to hit lvl 20 in 1 weeks time. It has very simplistic, user friendly gameplay, good for new MMORPG players. FFXI wasn't as steep of a learning curve for me, having played EQ before it. Honestly though, I would choose EQ over both of these games, but that doesn't really matter, does it?
