Chris Robber doesn't seem to understand that if you rush development you release Anthem while If you take your development time seriously you release The Witcher 3.

With how much time Chris is taking with SC, it better put Witcher 3 to shame then. As someone mentioned earlier though, I think he's just getting himself ready for when his project(s) "dont meet players' unreasonable expectations."

It is not CR getting himself ready but CR communicating to all that unreasonable expectations are just... unreasonable.
Any gamer around know there is a gap between a project and final product. We are lucky enough to have such a great CIG team. We got two Triple-A for 35$ (early backer) :)
    Which two AAA games?
One of the AAA games is going to be one of the most egregious example of a P2W game in decades and MIGHT release before 2030. The other game they will use to string along donators until then by saying they are going to release it (this year + 1).

I get it. Developing a game is NOT easy and sometimes solutions to problems or how to implement a feature is not always straight forward. The game is dependent on the knowledge and skill level of the developers themselves. Completion times can widely vary. To be honest, any game dev company that that admits this openly and decides to curb the fans' expectations based on that, can be respected and trusted for their honesty.

No Man's Sky was the biggest disappointment on release because Sean Murry promised so much would be in the game on release. He lied. He lied JUST to boost his sales of the game and everyone knows that. Sometimes the hype train infects game developers. It's a common and unfortunate trend that we see companies overselling their games and releasing early access cash grabs. IMO no game should be open to the public until it is 100% done and free of bugs.

Let me put this in perspective. 15-20 years ago the internet was still a new thing. Most games were bought and played on CD-Roms. Long story short, if a game shipped with bugs it could be a very expensive effort to patch a game for all the players. Companies couldn't afford that. So they had to get it right the FIRST time. Today companies don't have that problem. I remember the super buggy launch of Elder Scrolls Online. It felt like an early beta with the amount of issues it had.

    TLDR;
Due to capitalism lying to the players, overselling their games, and releasing buggy and sometimes early access games branded at full price has become the norm. There is no check and balance on game companies from their customers except outrage and review bombing their so-called finished product @ $60 per game. Looking at you Anthem.

In short those raging will pretend CR did intend to say the worst while indeed he was very balanced toward problems of others studios AND player expectation.

Beside that 3.5 is amazing and keep receiving small patch regularly (another one this Sunday).

When it is released, I'll take a look. Until then, it's just another game in development.

Its somewhat ironic, but that statement is what this is really all about, and if more people practised that, then there would be a whole lot less dribble flowing around the world.

It would be nice if they didn't misrepresent and straight up lie about progress and release dates though. You can be naive about what they've actually said and done up till this point and hold that opinion, but if you've been paying attention for the past 5 years and you still hold that opinion, then it's just straight up delusional.

While it would be nice to not misrepresent, you know that it will never happen, just like the movie industry, placing sometimes the best 1 min of the movie into the trailer with the rest being garbage.
But my main point is, at what point are people going to take responsibility for their own mistakes? I'll tell you, its never and they will always attack the vendor rather than admit their own stupidity, and while we rarely if ever get demos anymore, there are so many ways to find out more about games via reviews, youtube, twitch and many others, that theres really no excuse to go in blind.
Chris Roberts is correct, peoples unrealistic expectations lead them to pay for early releases, early access, partially finished projects, in turn enabling these dodgy practices to continue instead of waiting and demanding finished polished products before handing over any money.

Don't release your game at full price with missing features? If it's not done then don't release it. Like blow it out your ass. F*ck this "player" fault garbage for real. It's a consistent occurrence and has been for the longest time. You can't promise features and then flat out not deliver.

And Warframe actaully shows that players can be very forgiving when it comes to bugs, errors and changed plans, as long as they trust the developer. But that trust needs to be earned in actions, not words, and that is the real feat Digital Extremes pulled off with Warframe.

As A Warframe player (PC version) I know that any major release they make, it will be buggy, broken and unbalanced. I should be running away flaming on forums. But I know that they will fix it. Some of it within hours, more of it within the week. while all the time listening to player feedback and throwing that into the fixes as well.

As a developer I appreciate exactly what they are doing from a technical point as well. Warframe (the PC version) has been designed for fast iterations. They can release a new version while players play. They have smart branching of their code base. They compartmentalize functions to minimize cross dependencies. In short they are professional about what they do, and they have designed a system is centered about the needs of the customer.

This is when F2P becomes the better model. when the dev have to rely on continued customer satisfaction to earn their keep. Both B2P and Kickstartes, once they have the customers money, they only need to deliver a tolerable experience, and promise to do better next time, rinse and repeat. If DE, with the way they do F2P in WF, fuck up for real, they will bleed for it, big time.

If that were actually what he said, it would have been even more hilarious than what he said. That utterly describes SC.

    sorry, dumbest statement ever.
we don't understand how hard it is to deliver a LOOTSYSTEM in a bloody LOOTSHOOTER!?

    whatever dude, whatever.

maybe don't hype up your game with unrealistic demos then next time, maybe focus on what makes a game good and not what makes it look good for investors. (and by that i mean anthem and not star citizen ofc)

Let's be honest, there's no way SC can deliver at this point and not fail to meet some people's expectations, especially those set too high, its inevitible.

As to Anthem, Chris actually did mention what probably is the true underlying reason for player disappointment when he said,

"I wish there was a bit more and it was a bit deeper, and I wish maybe some of the lore and story stuff was a bit more dynamic.

I felt like when it was originally pitched to me it was supposed to be more dynamic, and it felt static when I played it."

As others have said, failing to meet the developer generated hype, something NMS was very guilty of is one of the biggest sources of consumer anger.

One of the issues with Anthem was that they cut up even the half-made game that they managed to deliver. Probably to DLC the hell out of it, most certainly to monetise it as much as possible.

That is not a problem of customer expectations.

Delivering a minimum viable product (tm) is not a customer related problem.

Also, since you brought politics into it. Maybe you should go have a cry and REEEEE in a corner because...... Donald Trump is still your president. :-p

    I have an unpopular opinion.

He is right. Developers did what they could for Anthem in the time frame they had. If they could, the game would be postponed but I highly doubt the developers decide. They are working on the game while some hotshot who never played a game in his life makes a final decision if the game will be released, scraped or postponed.

They have trimesters/yearly goals, you don't want to miss those.

If he had ONLY been referring to the developers, maybe you might have a weak point.
