So many times ive seen on these forums and others that MMos are becomming racing games and sports games but technically thats still an MMo even Halo2 is an MMo and are the RPGS going away is there a new era of gaming comming in?
Well id say yes shoot em ups and action packed games are winning over so many people
With Halo 2s break out millions of kids spent hours of time to get a high rank technically lvling in the game to be the best.
What happened to a tradition MMoRPG where the armor is golden and the weapons are huge and everyone in the game speaks turkish sheesh i miss the old days where every MMO was the same and they all had similar features so youd always try them all i have been playing MMOs since EQ started to its basically time for a new era of games but a new era of RPGS not other games
WHOS WITH ME?
MMOs need to stay RPGS?

your right the mmo market has become more diverse branching into rts and fps genre and combining the massive multiplayer aspect of mmorpgs to create mmofps's and mmorts's personally i welcome such a change (altho i despise mmofps's with a passion such as oh say GunZ the duel) mmofps's just illustrate the shallowness of mmos in general more so than their counterparts mmorpgs / mmorts's
i persoanlly eagerly await the release of ballerium a very promising mmorts (let it be known i left the rts genre for mmorpgs) so i am quite curious how a fusion of 2 genres that i love will turn out , and yes im aware there are other mmorts's altho not alot belive me i tried them
P.S. I totally agree with your thread title rerolling countless alts after hitting 60 and getting uber lewt from MC isnt my idea of fun
I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say. Honest. You have me pretty confused.

I disagree with everything the topic creator has to say. From the looks of it he wants it to stay how it is now, which is crappy. We need change, we need something new and exciting. If you wanna play the same old games then go play some Korean mmo and there you have it. They all seem to have big swords and shiny armour anyways.
I would say if you want nostalgia then you should just stick to the old games.
I am not sure which MMO games you are talking about with golden armor and huge weapons as I don't remember the "old" MMOs having those (M59, UO, EQ, etc).
However! If you really like to stick to the old games, they are still around and probably will be for a long time. Evolution in MMOGs is just as true as evolution in everything. The world changes, morphs, adapts and becomes a stronger place.

What would you consider the old games?
Shadowbane was my first mmo--would you consider that an oldy?
daoc eq?
or uo?.....and what was before UO?
Muds?
Go read some evolution theory, diversity is the key to survival.
That is why I put old in quotes.
The games I am referring to are the old graphic MMO games such as the ones I listed, M59, UO, EQ, etc. as that is what I thought he was talking about.
I am talking about "oldy" as in the first in the genre. We could talk about The Realm, MegaWars, Air Warrior, etc. They are older and at least one of them are still around.
I am curious. Was there a direction to your questions or are you just curious as to my opinion?

MMO games must be only RPGs but this RPGs need evolution, they have to become better .Games that are not RPGs are occupation only for few days,I think

What concerns me the most is not how the should change, or stay what they are. The problem I feel starts to emerge more often is that many companies tend to call MMORPG what in fact is a MMOG. And that's a bit deceiving.
Role Playing Games can be completely revamped, or be based on the very same concepts. Yet the focus is on environment, atmosphere, storyline, character advancement and a strong community of fans passionate about it (12 months after release especially).
Very few titles managed to stick to the concept, obey the rules that make an RPG fun, and survive the market.
Wether they change or not, let's hope the market stops considering us like cows to squeeze for milk.
People people i meant by big weapons and shiny armor was just a lil humor you gotta remember people dont say everything to be taken seriously
And first off i say this because i feel RPGS are being downed and will be a genre of the past soon enough since the RPG market will be taken over by MMoFPS and online sports games im basically giving into the fact that RPGs arent the same they are being taken down to many notches making them nothing new but the same stuff over and over again
I am not sure I agree that just because a game is also identified as a FPS it can't be a good RPG.
From what you are saying, RPG is about environment. That would also mean you feel a FPS cannot have environment. Just because I can shoot at the spot to which I am aiming doesn't mean I can't be in a story driven, community rich environment.
*For that matter... Why couldn't I role-play a sports star?
People make a RPG into a RPG. Role Playing cannot be made or forced by a game. The game provides a great environment in which to role-play, but it still requires a role-player. If you are able to imagine it, any multiplayer game can be a role-playing game.

the reason for lack of innovation and new ideas and constant repetetiveness in mmo's nowadays is because the developers only seem to be improving ideas they deem to be successful in other mmo's.
what we need is for the devs to lock a few people away in a dark room for a few weeks to come up with new ideas
