The Bungie Destiny 2 stream is in full swing and it's started with a bang. Luke Smith has categorically said that it is an action MMO and, despite dodging the "MMO term for years", it is what it is. The commitment is to continue to improve RPG and social elements in the coming years.

How refreshing to hear devs call their game an MMO without fear.

All good things coming for Destiny 2. It's cool to watch Bungie blossom now that they're out from under Activision's thumb.

It was a matter of time till live services realized that to complete with other live services, that they would need to be more MMORPG like than their competitors.

I am completely and totally okay with that. There never even should have been a Destiny 2. Build on what you've got, or don't be a live service.

Please tell me how it’s an “MMO”. You don’t play with a ton of players, you don’t see a ton of players. Where does it fall into the “MMO” part? If you played with tons of people and saw tons of people than I could personally call it an mmo.

not excited when they are pretty much doing the same thing , i don't care if you where under different management , they should of added all previous content whit the new release if they want money, there's no way i am dumping another 40$ on their *premium content*

I don't think it's refreshing that they're calling it an MMO now, I think it's an act of desperation. Good things can come from it, but even better things could have been, had they taken that stance from A1 and proceeded accordingly.

Exactly....but when I was saying this before Destiny 2 even launched, all I could read on this site was "Its just normal for a game like this" now a 'game like this' is being classified as a mmo by the developers.....Destiny 2 exists because they would've got less money just importing Destiny 1 to pc than they would re-releasing an entire game again....I dont really ask for much outside of people just having a small degree of standard for the products they are interested in. Having standards doesn't mean you hate something, it means you value it....

How about adding 3rd person view switch? Without this option it's just another flying window simulator to ignore.

It looks like I'll just have to pay for Shadowkeep which comes with CoO and WM which I already have. I'll wait to see how expansive that expansion really is. Good that everything will simply transfer over. Hopefully a seamless experience.

It is not easy to add RPG on as an afterthought, but if they give it a genuine go its a welcome sign.

It looks like that listing hasn't been completed yet.  D2 on Steam doesn't show up in a search or if you add it to your wish list.  If it wasn't on the front page you wouldn't know it existed.  I also have to wonder why they didn't mention Forsaken.

Give up. This battle was lost a long time ago. Today, you are what you call yourself. This site thinks Diablo 3, Path of Exiles, and World of Tanks are MMO. If Call of Duty called itself a MMO, this site would not challenge them. There are no standards anymore. Which means, I am a cyborg, because I call myself a cyborg, therefore I am.

There's so little RPG element to the game, and there isn't chat, group tools, trading, or any other social interaction available in the game (for the most part). It's a long shot to think that can all just be tacked on, no matter what they want to call themselves. Sounds like the well has dried up on their current player base and the FPS space is crowded, so they're trying to rope in some fresh blood as they go F2P and hitch themselves to Stadia.

Destiny 2 was great with the Forsaken Expansion, it's marketing and DLC strategy was not.  Here's hoping they listened to their player base and not just blowing smoke up our ass.

If by RPG features they mean complex and meaty rpg systems and character development systems I'll definitely check it out.  But I have a creeping suspicion they don't mean what I hope they mean.
