Ok, had a few questions. I remember watching Horizons while it had the massive list of races, with that size chart (anyone else here remember that?) and the race war/ pvp aspect....
then I stopped following Horizons for some time. I DID sign up for beta, but I never got selected. Drat.
Anyway... it looks like they have trimmed down the races and removed PvP? It looks like horizons has gone through some substantial changes in concept. Can anyone help ramp me up on the changes made?
Thanks!

Well yes many changes have been made. PvP is a no go in its initial release, and a good deal of races are gone. Demons, Angels, Lumerians, Vampires, and a few others I cannot remember are gone.
However the crafting system, the player made housing, community aspects, and many other features make this game still a must!

that makes me pretty sad. While dragon was my target race (gee, what a surprise, right? ) I was going to make a Lumerian too. Taking out the water dwellers is kinda hearbreaking.
And the PvP aspect sounded really good actually. I like PvP when it has a PURPOSE, as opposed to random PKing. It looked like the racewar aspect, combined with the bounty hunters, etc, would have been nice.
Ah well. I'm hoping that the backstory and undead invasions will make up for it. Personally, I'm deathly afraid of more "leveling treadmill" mindless hack n slash that so many games have - I love the community aspect of MMORPGs, but I really prefer story-driven games more, which is why I always end up playing single player games more often.
The whole idea of the undead armies, pushing back the frontier, dealing with blightstorms, etc, does sound like fun. As for crafting...
I dont know. I dont generally play games to craft. When playing Baldur's Gate, for instance, I didnt have to worry about forging a sword.
although, forging communities does sound like fun. I wonder how comparible it will be to Shadowbane's version.
Anyway. I'm not into mindless hack n slash, but I am into high adventure following a story; as such, Dragon might well suit me best anyway; but who knows. I may make a second character for the sole purpose of crafting just to try it out. Maybe I'll change my mind.

To answer a few questions...
the number of races did change, however in addition to the nine races now. they have already stated with certainty that others will be added as subjugated races which players must free later on in the game as well as have specifically stated in the last IGN journal that Dryads will be added into the game (along with mounts and pets).
if I were you I would suggest checking out the FAQ at the site...www.istaria.com for info on all the races. I think then that too once the NDA is lifted on beta that a whole bunch more info-specifically what you are asking will come out.
But me personally think that that is a HUGE idea that the community will come together to free a race and THEN be able to play them....
I said it above..don't know if you saw, by Dryads are already said to be confirmed addition...although we don't know what we have to do to get them free...
I have a feeling that freeing a subjugated race will be somewhat different then how Dryads become playable and think that it will just be something that someone stumbles upon and then has to rally up support...
Ok first off i think that all u guys are right if u dont have a Pvp in this game with this scope they must be retarted i mean think about it u choose between good or evil? and a battle for land that is a massive setup for a great pvp game u could also have battles over a town or frontier o my i just want to know if they will have evil races and such, not everyone wants to see the good guyz win right! i choose the evil necro that controls the undead for me..... i hope the makers of horizons come around to this and get a answer for this and FAST cuz EQ2 is right on the doorstep and they have to hit hard and fast and make a pimp game to get over EQs sholders they have the means and setup for it, they just need to swing through!!! or else im going to try EQ2!
Tell me if i am wrong! millbro....

Alpha,
I think the same way you do. PvP should be in MMOG's in some fashion. Although Horizons doesn't support it when it releases. It will add up for it later in an expansion i'm sure. Maybe even an entire PvP server!!
BRING BACK THE ANGELS!!!!!!!!!
(my futile attempt to vote angels as player characters) Hopefully they are a subjegated race.
