I agree, thats a tough one... New games that are so huge are tough to find a new one that peaks the interest.
I have been through many MMORPG's thus far, and I just cant decide if I want to leave DAOC, I tried WoW and was not over impressed. It was fun for a little while, but the rep system really did it in for me.
Right now I am watching two, Irth and Dark and Light.... Ill have to wait to see which one I like more... I have tried Irth and though it needs work still, I am intrigued with it's design and open feeling.
The Development there seems to be going in the direction with what they promised so far.
With Dark and Light, Im just not sure since I am not in thier beta, and onl going by what I have read so far. Look nice, terrain looks very realistic... But I am skeptical so far since they have not really let anyone in it yet.
Thats a funny question. "What is the newest and best game out there?".
I will explain why.
None of the new MMORPG's are even close to the best at the moment.
In my opinion the best MMORPG on the market is DAOC. The best MMORPG ever made was EQ (before SOE ruined it! grr).
Just my 2cp

-- Nytur 39 Conjuror of Lucan D'lere (Quit due to low populations)

PLEASE SOE MAKE A CLASSIC EQ SERVER. Shadow of luclin was a prick in EQs side. PoP Was a gun to the face.

Im on my 6th MMO since a 2 year addiction to SWG. Have yet to find the one gem.
Personally right now I'm playing both SWG and EQ2. Both are worlds more fun than WOW.
I'm "watching" Irith, D&L and a whole slew of others that show some promise. I'm not really watching anything that doesn't have open PVP.

Now that you have finished playing a great "starter" MMOG I have a strong recommendation:
Try every trial you can get your hands on.
Don't pick your "next" game until you've seen what the genre has to offer. You've only seen World of Warcraft, which is a great but shallow game. There are vastly different styles available to you, which you have no idea about.
So get some idea by trying them all out. Since you are likely looking to stay with one for a while I think it's a far better idea to make an informed, intelligent choice based on experience than to simply stab at it based upon the biased views of strangers.
Hate to say it but these guys are right. I've tried ALL the MMORPG i can lay my hands on including the betas
WoW was a step outta the pack if you ask me, just had something which alot of the others didnt have. perhaps it was the fact the first 5-10 level really spoonfeed u into the game whereas a lot of games do a brief tutorial and then its cya, have fun! thanks for your money.
WoW is an amazing game to play, unfortunately once you hit 60, regardless of what people say "its what you make of it", "there are instances", "tonnes of loot to get" bla bla bla.... you either need to grind an instance like 100 times *no joke*
Some ietms like the Felstriker (a rare dagger) has a drop rate of like 100 in 25000!!
I mean for the casual gamer at 60, theres not THAT much to do apart from a bit of pvp which although great fun, will become tiresome, they missed somethin out of this game. I just cant figure out what it is. UO was the only game which had that something, till they ruined it with addons.
Enjoy
True.
I played EQ2 in beta and liked it but didn't carry on to buy retail due to the lack of solo play. I posted on the forums about this, got flamed by power gamers and told to play Morrowind, and read some posts from the devs stating that, despite previously claiming the game would be solo friendly, they prefered players to group for the most part to achieve things, and this was how they intended EQ2 to play.
I waited for WoW to release in EU and started playing it. It is a casual game up to 60 where you need to group to progress, unless you enjoy farming cash. Once quests stop giving XP they have no value unless they reward with an item, most it which at 60 do not.
I do group, for instances and raids, but prefer to do it with other guildies, since they are often more organised and less rude. However, there times when there are not guildies online to start a group, or not enough available, and in that gap of time there is little else to do that is interesting. WoW is way too easy to level up in, and even a casual gamer can max in no time, without really trying.
I am interested in becoming a ranger/scout explorer type in DnL, when it releases but that won't be for sometime.
cheers guy i just downloaded dark age of camelot but it seems a bit empty at the moment also it is a old game.... im looking foward too Dark and light but i need a game to pass the waiting time.
a massive online one and a new sort of one im still going on about them free trails.

If you're going to play DAOC play on the classic servers. Every other server is a ghost town. (And they suck, to boot... the new add-on REALLY ruined the game, which is exactly why everyone plays on the "classic" servers).

give shadowbane a try too, they're launching a new server soon with different rulesets. (20 days free trial) the game is a mix of rpg and rts.
Erm..... no thanks... Shadowbane is one of the games I plan to stay well away from. It truely did not impress me when I played it. Not to mention the graphics just flat out suck, which makes a (in my opinion) bad game even worse.

Star Wars Galaxies sounds good if you don't care the universe(that's why I don't play it),
Maybe Everquest2 for party play.
I don't play any MMORPG now,but there are some games in development that I look at
Hero's Journey-good RP abilities much quests
Spellborn-fun gameplay,influencing the world with your actions,stylish graphic,release 01.06.06
Granado Espada-control of 3 characters at one time, killing monsters without player's attention, renaissance setting.
Also maybe Trials of Ascension-many different features like perma death, but I have big doubt of it's release.

IMO-- if your having fun with daoc--stick with daoc. Its still a great game.
I too am also looking at dark and light---irth
Have you seen Darkfall--it looks to be a great game as well if it ever comes out.
I played shadowbane--daoc--wow--and then a million others and now im back to wow for the time being but will prolly start playing Asherons Call 1. I hear real good things about that game.
i'd like to try swg, but i just dont have the time- i have work, chilling, wow-time, AND any other games i can squeeze in there...
i want a fuckin jedi man! but it's SO not going to happen...and i will buy 1 when they become like $20 on ige=P and i totally hate ige..
