HELP ME PLEASE!!

Ok, here is the deal.  I am getting final fantasy 11 in two days and I have some major questions.

1. What is the easiest way to get gil?

2. How are the people in the game?

3. Is the beast master a good job?  {if so state why}

4. Is the ranger a good job?  {if so state why}

5. Has there been a lot of new people joining the game?

6. Do you think this game will die out within a year? {if so state why}

    I have never played it, but I know a fair amount about it.

    1. Get Signet cast on you by a guard. Then, when you fight monsters, you get crystals which you can sell on the Auction House.
    2. Couldn't say, never played. There is an in-game translator for talking to the Japanese, I believe.
    3. Beast Master is probably the only class that can solo. And I don't think it does that well, but I'm not sure. You can 'tame' mobs, but only ones that are the same level as you, I think.
    4. Big damage dealers. An expensive class, however.
    5. Couldn't say. Its not getting smaller, however.
    6. Almost definitely not. I believe it has around 500k subscribers right now, possibly 600k.

    I've been playing FFXI ever since i got it ::::17::
    I am a lvl 32 redmage and i like redmages.

    1. The easiest way to get gil... This is not easy, it will take some time... But like said before: gather crystals, remember to have signet cast on you everytime you leave the town. Sell crystals in stacks of twelve on AH(Auction House). You can also start with proffesions, but its not easy for a newcomer to start with that... wait a few levels.

    2. People are mostly nice, After level ten you will be in a party most of the time. You will meet many nice and funny people on your road. Let me just say that: The best times in FFXI is when you are in a party, especially a good party who likes to chat a little. ::::01::

    3. Beast Master is a pretty good job, never tried it though. You can tame pets, use axes(wich is a good weapon in FFXI) and its probably the best solo job in FFXI. But BST(Beastmaster) is an advance job, you will have to get to level 30th with a another job, then get the quest. After you've finished with the quest you can choose to be a Beastmaster.

    4. Ranger is a good job, but you must have a bow ofcourse. They deal the most damage with bows, and do pretty good damage with swords(i think). But this is also an advance job.

    5. Yes, new people join all the time im sure off. And you can also swap jobs as often as you like in your moghouse. So there will be no danger of leveling alone. There is almost always someone around on your level.

    6. NO! I am sure it wont because:
    1. New people join everyday.
    2. New Content is added every month, so there is always new stuff, and quests to do.
    3. New events almost every month, and they can be really fun.
    4. If you stop playing for a while, you will come back 99% of the time.
    5. Its the mes MMO i've played. (I've played: City of heroes, WoW and FFXI)

    A little warning: It may get a little slow in the beginning, but you will learn to like it, then love it!!!

    The right man for the right job.

    Your mog house is your player housing. Look at your map of the city and you will see "Residential Area" with a symbol of a bunch of keys. Walk into that area and you zone to your Mog House. Everybody zones to their own Mog House, therefore it follows that nobody but you can enter yours. Upon entering the Mog House, you are immediately healed to full HP and MP and most bad statuses will be removed. In the Mog House you can do many things, which can all be accessed from the Mog House menu selection (which replaces the Map selection when you're in your Mog House). For a beginner, the most relevant things you can do are:

    * Access your Mog Safe. Fifty more spaces of storage! You may be impressed by that now...just wait. It's amazing how fast it fills up.

    * Receive incoming items in your delivery box. If someone uses the mail system to send you stuff, this is where it'll be. Also, if you auction stuff at the Auction House, this is where the payment will be sent (or where the unsold item will be sent if it doesn't sell in nine game weeks).

    * You can choose to change your job here, in case you don't like your current one, would just like to play a new one for a while, or you need to set up your subjob (once you've completed the subjob quest). The first time you switch to a new job, you'll be level 1 with no experience, but don't panic! Your old job still exists at your old level and experience, and it'll all still be there if you switch back. You can switch freely with no cost or penalty, as much or as often as you like, but only in your Mog House.

    You can also do stuff like furnish the Mog House (which can get you interesting bonuses or "Moghancements", as well as provide you additional storage) and garden (grow stuff for fun 'n' profit!).

    1. The easist way of making gil in the beginning is just as others say, talk to your gate guard and get a signet, and just sell all the crystals and item drops from monsters on the auction house. Windurst or Sandy are probably a bit better for gil than Bastok, since a Windhurst has Crawlers which drop silk that sells for a nice chunk of change on the AH and Yagudo, which drop wind crystals, one of the medium priced crystals. Sandy has Orcs as their beastmen, which drop fire crystals, some of the higher priced ones. Bastok has mostly earth and water crystals, the cheapest ones, and no real big money droppers except bees, which quickly become too low to for exp.

    Also, keep an eye on your conquest points and beastman seals. I can only speak for Bastok Conquest items, but they are a nice way to make cash early on. It's easy to get rank 2 around level 10 in Bastok at least, and if you're rank 2 and bastok is in first place you can purchase a Decruion shield for 2k Conquest points. On midgard, this goes for 25k gil, which isn't a bad ratio of gil-cp. Beastman seals will be great bread winners once you get 40 and can do bcnm 40, often making anywhere from 200k-1mil and the process.

    Your money making capacities will be extremely limited till 40 at the lowest, and it won't be till much later when you can really rake in the cash.

    2. The community is decent I suppose. It's no real worse than other games, and better than some such as WoW. I wouldn't put it as highly as EQ, but his is probably due to the nature of FFXI. You have to do pretty much everything with other people in the game, be exping, questing, pvping, and even gil making sometimes. Being forced to do so much with others really makes you notice all the little flaws in others. The shout channel though, isn't nearly as bad as it used to be, and is quite better than other games.

    As for people helping new players, I've never really looked into, seeing as I was never helped, nor have I gone out of my way to help people not in my Linkshell, with the execptions of answering questions about my jobs and a quest or two. I suppose critques of your play style while exping are likly to emerge, and i'm sure if you ask someone to help you they'll respond as longs it's just an information request.

    3. Beast Master is a fine job, be it solo, missions, or grouping. (Of course i'm a bit biased, seeing as it's my main job.) They're the only class that can solo, even if it's only for 2-3k, with a high chance of death.
    They can also do some of the best melee damage in the game if they can find a pet that con's even match for them to use in a group exp session. Unfourtently, this often isn't the case, and the Beast Master must use a Jug - pet and take a 30% exp cut, or be a sub-par DD. They're also useful in thing's like Bcnm, since Charm is something no other class can claim. And, if you ever make it 75, you can do pretty decent dmg to HNM monsters with a jug pet, so you might even get a permeant spot in the Alliance, rather than being rotated out after ws'ing.

    4. Ranger is a fine job, though it was hit rather hard by the nerf bat a few weeks ago. It's claim to top DD is alot more tenuous now, and in exp sessions it often loses out to jobs such as Monks and Warriors at the higher levels. It still is a very strong DD, and the gear for it is rather cheap, more so with the recent falling out of rangers which caused a nose dive in all ranger related gear. They do though have to pay for arrows, which is non-refundable gil unlike armor, and limited use unlike spells. This means you'll have to constant farming to pay for the class, and the money will be constanly going to that black whole in your pocket, so it might not be the best for a first job on the way 75. Still, it's cheap gear somewhat offsets this, as the other melees have many million+ items that are starting to become standard form as more people get gil.

    5. Not really alot of new people joining the game, but where most games reflect this with dead newbie areas, FFXI creative sub-job system slows down the decline immensly. Many high level players will replay the beginning areas to raise up different sub jobs, or for some purpose like a thf sub for farming. The beginning towns are kinda on life support though, and little is for sale there. It's sad, since they used to be so bustling back when the game launched, with most gear up to the 30's being sold in the AH, often cheaper than Jeuno. If you want some numbers, Valkrum Dunes, the newbie training ground of choice, used to reach 550-600 people at peak ours, now it's more of a 120-180 fiqure. Still not bad, but it's always slowly falling. Maybe the release on 360 will somewhat help, but I doubt it.

    6. I doubt the game will die out within the year, as I hear and expansion is in the works, and it's being put on 360 soon. It is a fairly old game though, and I can see it 2 years being in a similar or slightly worse state than EQ is in now.
