Yaaas! Mickey Mouse is already in Overwatch. And we know both companies exude Scrooge McDuck to the fullest. EA should get in on this as well. I’m sure they have a Goofy or Donald counterpart, no?

As much crap as people say about Disney, they usual do good with most stuff.. not everything or all but a lot of times they are known for quality. Couldn't make things worse....

I wouldn't be against this. I personally am a big Disney fan and other from Star Wars and a few of their live action remakes they generally do a good job making movie that stand the test of time. Even now. Frozen, Moana, and Tangled will for sure do that. However, Disney has tried to make video games before with terrible results most of the time and they have been known to just flat out give up if it doesn't work for them. I would be worried about them doing the same here.

$37 million is pocket change for Disney now a days though. Will be interesting if they do it or not.

    37 Billion. With a "B".

Long term would be too long for the mouse. After Marvel and Lucasfilm, everybody has ideas for Disney purchases.

Disney cannot buy Activision. It’s too big.
Best scenario the two companies will merge just like Blizzard and Activision did before.

Making a new company (Disney/Activision) would cost no money to both companies as they will just get the shares of the new company according to the value of each company at the time of the merge.

The question is, will a merge of the two companies will be valued more than the two companies combined in the long run?
If investors think so, then the merge might happen, otherwise both companies will keep going their own ways.

what.. disney bought fox entertainment division for 71.3 billion dollars, i think you're massively underestimating how deep disneys pockets are. Edit - in 2018 fiscal year disney made 60 billion in profit... thats not total revenue generated thats pure profit.

Acti-blizz stock went from $84 just before blizzcon to $45 a month later. It hasn't recovered. If you wanted to buy a big gaming publisher now is the time!

Scary though. Have you seen how many marvel/star wars/disney mobile games there are? It's incredible so many have been made and compete with each other.

seen articles on few websites like this for a few months now .  really doubt  Disney has any interest . they already make a'lot of money licences there IP out to other company and like Star Wars to EA .  This looks like an unneceessary risk and probably won't end up generating a huge cash flow to be worth it than what they already have in place.

With Dinsey just opening up new gaming studo (new star wars game?), they would have not reason to buy Activision other to close it down and move everything to the new studo project.

I also don't see the point. They bought Fox for 71.3 billion but that was a movie studio. It made sense to buy them it get back to rights to a lot of characters in Marvel that where out of their control. Avatar too since they built a whole expansion to their parks dedicated to it. Plus the various other IP's they can now make money off of.

Activision is a video game company. Unless Disney wants to make movies off of their IP and Activision won't let them I don't see why they would want it at all
well my point was saying they can do it... but they won't for other reasons.

they have already said in an interview they have no interest in developing or owning their own games studio, they are more than happy with building relationships with existing development studios and working closely with them  for the games side of things.

So could they buy Activision - for sure, the mouse has deeeeeeep pockets
would they buy Activision - probably not, because they have no interest in that side of things

I just hope they don't name their merged company Disnivision... that just sounds a bit too, nickelodeon :P

I doubt Disney can afford it, their finances are not as healthy as some imagine especially given that some of their more recent ventures have failed to 'launch' quite spectacularly, Disneys Star Wars Galaxies Edge is just another symptom.
Activision doesn't have such good prospects that Disney would be really interested, if WoW classic fails then ActiBlizz will continue to lose value, and if WoW classic succeeds then not only would Disney really not be able to afford to buy, but ActiBlizz investors would likely be reluctant to even sell without significant financial incentive which i heavily doubt Disney has the ability to produce. :p

Disney should buy Activision-Blizzard, and sell Activision. Keeping Blizzard.

Whoever thinks disney doesn't have the pocket to buy Activision, they need a serious reality check. They bought out FOX media just because they needed the Marvel IPs and they are the only company that strong-armed Sony into allowing them to use the license for the new Spider-Man. Sony, of all corporations.

And for fox media they paid like $80 billion dollars.

They are one of the most profitable companies since 2012. Since 2012 they own EVERY blockbuster in cinema. There are NO movies that earn more than Disney for almost a decade now.

They'll dish out 5-6 superhero movies more and they'll have enough cash to buyout Activision fully.

It's insane looking at the sheer power Disney has. They're going to launch Disney+ in couple of months (in November I think) and they are pulling all their IP from competing streaming services. This shit would be the new Netflix, but it won't be operating at a loss for investors. It will rake billions of dollars because it is expected to have a worldwide launch with a full library in every region (currently you are a bit fucked if you want to have Netflix and you are not in the US)

Disney is a powerhouse and 40 billion dollars isn't much for them. If they want Activision they will get it. But they probably don't want a devalued company, lol.

there we go, i knew some people, myself included haha, made everything to lower Activision stock, so they can buy cheaper

They did the same recently for some other big studios, everyone remember right

A guy working for a company that has 90,000 shares in Activison, thinks Disney should buy Activison, that's nothing to do with the price of his employer's shares subsequently rocketing. Come on. :)

I think a merger would be sweet. You could have star wars or classic disney themed cosmetics / events in game. Although I'm not sure how that would work with COD since EA has battlefront..
  • WhiteLanternWhiteLantern Member RarePosts: 3,319
Basically, all this amounts to is a single inveator trying to drum up hype (which appears to be working here, at least) in hopes of getting his stock value to tick up slightly so he can feel good about divesting.
    Nothing to see here.

Yeah Disney+ I can't name someone who isn't subscribing to that. Like every person on the planet that uses any streaming service, especially for the price.
