Monday I am going on holiday so will be quite some time before I start hunting again but I will keep everything you said in mind. I just never imagined I might actually be able to play this. I mean I might just crash out soon if it gets too hard but for now I'm very surprised how enjoyable this game is.

I was standing about trying to remove some items (my fault forgot to clear my pouch) so tried crafting something and that T-Rex snuck up on me and roared . I got so scared I literally jumped and I ran away with the inventory still opened and it was very skewed until I turned it off. The game is really honest to goodness scary and it really feels like you can be attacked anywhere and that keeps it interesting.

Wait till you encounter Devil'Joe and Bazelgeuse the two most annoying trolls in the game.

Glad you're enjoying it! It's a pretty fun game albeit requiring a ton of grinding.

I switched to sword and shield and now I am moving way faster. I can chase the monster better compared to the slow poke I was on the lance. I have medium guard when I uae the shield and I was able to take the rams from the kulu ya ku head on with guard. That guy can really run and what was worse while I was killing him the Great Jagras joined in and I had to leave off. I found him again and finished him.

That T-rex keeps chasing me all round.

I wanted to ask about the weapon upgrades. I have upgraded to the Jagras Edge I can I bypass II and go to III or do you have to progress along the path or is it dependent on the materials you have?

The miner palico was so helpful . They fight too very cool. I just love this game.

No you can't skip upgrade stages. Each monster has elemental weaknesses and prowess, you should craft multiple weapons for each element in the future as that will boost your overall damage.

Do all the quests you can (Especially ones in the world) as they unlock you new palico gadgets. The healing one is good whilst learning, but then you unlock one that gives your palico traps and there's more that I don't wanna spoil for your sake.

Enemies like anjanath (t-rex) and in the future there's another two (that I mentioned prior) like to hunt players. Always be weary on your surroundings or you might find them in the least desirable times.

I am not looking for the best weapon but rather the most forgiving weapon. One I can use without worrying about precision, dodging and fast movement. It may not be as damaging or even one of the worst DPS but it allows for an easier gameplay as far as I am concerned.

Would ranged weapons be a good idea?
I'm not so old but I suffer from weak hands, therefore I have slower fingers than most.

I found personal success from playing Light Bowgun. It's mobile and quite strong. I've found that, with a bit of practice and watching my opponents, I can go an entire fight not being hit. For example, Odogaron and Kirin I could defeat without taking a single hit. All I had to do was strafe left or right whilst peppering them.

I don't feel MHW requires lightning-fast reflexes. It's very well embedded that it's about knowledge of the monsters, your environment, and your tools.

I have been dying to play this game and I took the plunge despite being dubious of my ability to actually play it. Having paid half the price for it I am now downloading it.

I am not sure if I can play this game because as some of you are aware and for others who are not I am old, slow and my thumbs are not good at the thumbsticks on a controller. I will be using the keyboard and mouse to play this game. I wonder if anyone could suggest the best weapon I should use and how I might go about trying to kill the monsters. Is there a way for someone as slow and clumsy as I am to play this game and what, if any, tactics should I use. I am also the proud owner of a programmable gaming mouse which I use by binding letters on the thumb side numbers, I hope to ease my play with the use of this mouse. Currently I play Warhammer Inquisitor  Martyr using that mouse and I have programmed a button next to my LMB for dodge and I can actually make progress on an assassin with a sword although I am a whuss and play in story mode.

I have tried watching some videos but everyone is a god at their gameplay and there is no way I can copy those movements. I am prepared to grind and play slowly. Please advise.
The most friendly weapon to new players is the Sword and Shield in every MH game. It's easy to use, easy to change directions while attacking, and lets you drink potions without sheathing the weapon. Very versatile at the cost of some damage.

I suggest trying all weapons in the training area and choose your favorite.

Ranged weapons are fun but can be problematic to new players as you can't just move around easily and you have to manage different types of bullets and arrows for different situations.

The bowguns are like mini turrets, especially the heavy bowgun which is more tanky and you can add a shield to compensate for slowing down your movement. The light bowgun is faster and fun but still not as easy to use as the bow.

As someone said above, as you get familiar with weapons you should have a weapon with each element for different bosses.

EDIT: The most complex weapons (less new player friendly) are the Insect Glaive, Switch Axe, and Charge Blade, but when you learn them they are some of the most unique melee weapons and very fun.

The problem I have is that I am quite slow and clumsy and even though I might have the time to devote to collecting stuff for ammo the thing is I noticed in one of the guides that you have to be a certain distance to use the bowgun. Between the ammo running out, watching my distance and aiming and coordinating the attacks I will be completely overwhlemed. I can quite confidently tell you I cannot use the ranged weapons.

I can barely manage the combos for the sword and shield and even then my movements sometimes have me facing the wrong way and striking thin air. I lose HP and if not for my trusty palico healing me I would have fainted more than once but so far that palico has been a better player than me. He is decked out in that disco gear.

You guys are so lucky to be able to just choose any weapon and get good at it. I have to choose a weapon that suits all my handicaps and still manage to kill. I was happy with the lance but it got too slow and with the sword and shield I think I may have found my ideal weapon. I am quite astonished I have not yet died to be honest or fainted but then I am facing all the really easy monsters so I should not judge the game in these early levels.

Still I'm very grateful many of you have taken your time to type out a post to help me along on this game and I will be back in 4 weeks to once again take up my sword and shield and face the challenges still awaiting me. I am quite thrilled at the prospect of going to new areas. I must say the monsters look really brilliant. Good designs and I enjoy the colour, shape, attack patterns and unique look of each creature I have seen so far.

Even if I do not get very far and am defeated I have already gotten my money's worth.

Then the skill "Guard Up" will be quite handy for you. Let's you block unblock-able attacks.

Just so you know, it took me 30+ hours just to get comfortable with the Longsword, and after 10+ hours with hammer now I am definitely still learning. Also, I don’t play ranged, way too annoying for me. It takes very long to truly get comfortable with just your weapon, let alone all tools, food, potions etc. MHW is the most accessible MH out there, for newcomers there is still a mountain to climb though.

Are you having fun? That’s all to truly worry about.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I'm back in this game. After a long hiatus I shall attempt to conquer a few more monsters. Of course I started a new game since my memory is piss poor.
