guild wars 2, that was an agonizing wait as i found out the day they announced the game, and camelot unchained. I will legit buy a new computer for that game.
The MMOs that I waited the longest for (SWTOR, Fallen Earth, Secret World) were the biggest disappointments for me.
Secret World was one of my biggest disappointments ever.....The way they built up that game you'd have thought it was going to blow WoW and every other game made out fo the water....When I saw what they finally released, I was very disappointed. TSW was so bad, I went back to Anarchy Online.
Games are different in the last few years....They didn't use to sell them in alpha (or even worse) state......Some games it was difficult to even get into beta......Waiting then was much harder than it is now....look at Star Citizen....How many are able to play it now?...Several here are supposedly playing it and bragging how great it is...It may not launch for another 5 years, if ever.

I don't really think they sold it in a way that it would blow away World of Warcraft though I think they thought it would rival it in sales.
Which is funny because "I" thought that they were making a more niche game the way they described it. Apparently, they didn't see it that way.
They touted all the other things players would be doing like having to go online and find clues to things, all these esoteric puzzles that people would have to uncover. But it launched with only the smallest bit of that.

Them launching it like that was such a huge disappointment because those missions that did have the puzzles felt truly unique compared to every other game. Actually having to look crap up in their in game browser and being able to solve clues and such was really cool feeling in an MMORPG.
Assuming that it only counts as "waiting" if I particularly care about a game, I'm going to say Uncharted Waters Online. I started waiting on it when it launched in Japan, and didn't get an English translation until five years later. But it was one of the best games ever made, so it was worth the wait. It's still the only time that I've ever seen a publisher actively and blatantly trying to make a game pay to win, and failing at it.
TIL that it takes 10 new posts for a necro thread to lose its necro tag... who knew?

Only once and it was like 5+ years only to be disappointed before it even released because of early information.
That game>>>FFXIV.
I wanted a more modern sequel to ffxi so badly but several months before launch i already saw a really sub par poorly designed game incoming. On release day i still jumped in and my hunch was correct,i struggled and forced myself to want to like it but after about 6 months i gave up on it. This Yoshi character did NOTHING for the game,it remains the same poorly designed mess it started as and will not encourage me to come back likely ever.
Devs caught on to gamers and how they play so devs reacted with their game designs looking for new was to SLOW players down and create long grinds.Devs also figured out how to use deceptive numbers because they know how superficial gamers are they see a +150 and they get all excited.1-98 a pointless race and 99 also pointless, all that matters is your gear and again kind of pointless unless you get the best of the best, min maxing.

I saw soooo many red flags with Arena.Net there was no way i was buying into their marketing campaign. The only one pushing that Campaign was Bill here but later realized why and how he has a vested interest in a lot of the games and continues to do so with his new business as a marketing firm.
I can see how gamers are so easily fooled when all the shills in the world are BS'ing them into believing a pile of crap is god sent. So since the first time i ever anticipated/waited for a game,i have never again bought into ANY early hype because that hype comes from one source BS marketing.

EQ2, EQ Next are two MMOs that were to be a modern EQ1. And EQ2 was not and EQN never happened. Vanguard almost filled that for me but it's doors closed. Pantheon may never launch. So I have been waiting for a modern EQ forever and I may never stop waiting as I see no light at the end of the tunnel lol
I guess a proper sequel to Diablo 2. Hell, even a second expansion for that game would have been great. It took POE to deliver the goods as D3 was fun for about two weeks although the expansion did improve it.
My current longest wait is for Total War: Warhammer 3 but it looks like that game will finally get a release trailer this week.
I don't know, I simply don't wait for things, there's simply too many interesting activities here, in the present. The only thing I truly waited for is GW 2 and that didn't turn quite as I expected it. So I don't.
Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
